13th hole
Had a fun round with the fellows, got beat but enjoyed it..
getting better
Tee box's and greens are great. Fairways are still lacking. I've played this course several times in the last 5 years and I can say that it has greatly improved.
Course needs help !
This course has some potential but it needs a lot of maintenance. The cart paths are in terrible shape, bone jarring at times ! There is virtually no signage on the course........no hole numbers, no signs showing where to go, etc. Greens were in decent shape but the fairways need a lot of work. First timers will have a hard time figuring out where to hit on several holes.
First Time
This was my first time at this course and overall, I felt as though the course could improve a little. Honestly, if the cart paths were tended to and fixed then this would be great. The whole time, I was hitting bumps left and right on account that the paths were so torn up. With a little TLC, this would be a great course.
Great course for the money
Best greens for central texas will play again A1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In good shape
Course was in good condition. Really good for this time of year. Greens and fairways were in good shape. Didn't care for the rough as much but shouldn't have been there in the first place. Lol!
Battle Lake Review
The course was very green! My expectations for my $10 hot deal were far exceeded! The only bad thing I can say about the course is that the greens are really small which make it difficult to hit GIR for your average golfer, but I thought the layout was great for a country golf course and I couldn't believe how green it was! I will definitely be going back every chance I get when I find a hot deal for this course. Most holes do not have bunkers.
Warning to Fellow Golfers
I am not one to go around and write reviews but I just had to let my fellow golfers know what they are in for when they go to Battle Lake. I was under the impression from the other recent reviews on here that the course was in good shape. Well it must have been absolutely awful in the past because when I played yesterday it was by far the most run down course I've ever played. It feels like you are in a cow pasture. None of the fairways are smooth, none of them have a full fairway of grass, none of them were even mowed. There is no way that I will be coming back. We were literally losing balls in the fairways.
The staff was friendly enough, the course played fast (weren't many groups out there), and the greens were actually pretty nice. But for all of the other reasons I can't recommend this course for the price they are asking.
One more thing, they claim that their golf shop was ranked in the top 100. WHO DID THIS LIST???
Greens are nice!
Of all the courses in waco, this is by far the best value for the money.Hopefully the staff can keep up with a possible hot summer and are able to keep the greens in good shape. Thanks for a great day of golf.
Battle lake surprised us!
This place is a steal for a 10 dollar round! We had a great time and the condition of the course was not terrible. I was pleasantly surprised with out a doubt.
Water Battle!
It was a typical cloudy and windy day in central Texas when my wife and I played Battle Lake Golf Course. The condition of the course was in winter mode, which was to be expected. The fairways were rough, the greens played pretty difficult, and the water was everywhere! (Everywhere I hit my ball anyway) Each hole was a different type of challenge with water in play on a good number of them (lake, pond, streams, etc.), and my golf balls love water!
The unfortunate weather condition for us was the wind. It created a disturbing side issue to the water features. If I was a more accomplished player, maybe it would not have made that much difference. As it was, my wife and I whacked a lot of golf balls, had a few good shots, and generally enjoyed the day. The staff in the Pro Shop were terrific, which may the day even better. We would go back again, especially after I purchase non-water seeking golf balls!
Needs work
Staff is super friendly and the clubhouse is in great shape. The course was VERY bumpy. I played smack in the middle of February so I expected some hard ground and boy did I get it. Rain and watering should help soften things up and I hope that it will smooth out things too. I will be back but not as frequently as I had hoped.
