Great Day
Great and very difficult course in very good condition with a friendly staff. One of my favorite courses in Texas.
Staff
No cart service or half way house. In the Texas heat there was no where to even purchase a bottle of water. Unacceptable for a course at their price.
Give it Few Weeks
I love The Falls, especially when I can get a good deal on the green fee which is normally pretty pricey for a place out in the middle of nowhere. However, yesterday we found the greens to be rough and very slow by their normal standards. The greens appeared to have been punched a week or so ago so they had not healed. When there is an issue like this it should be posted on the websites, including Golfnow. No one likes crummy greens. Also, encountered a group of walkers that held us up for 3 holes before they let us play through.
This is a great course
Super track. Greens were not in great shape. Had just been sanded. Other than that super course.
Round of golf on mothers day
Course was in excellent condition. Green fairways, reasonably good greens, bunkers in good shape.
Course is pretty challenging with lots of water in play. The ground elevation draws even well hit shots towards the water. Absolutely unforgiving!
One improvement I would suggest is around distance marking and description of the lay out of the hole. The score card does not show the lay out of the hole and neither does the board by the side of the tee box. There are no 150 yard marker poles, no distance markers on sprinkler heads. If you are not playing with someone familiar with the course, please do get a course book (if it is available).
Great course -- hope it stays open
I have played there before. The course continues to be in relatively great condition, especially since it has not rained there the last 3 months. I also wonder if it can continue to stay open because it seems it lacks sufficient customers to keep it open. Hopefully it will because it is a beautiful course.
Good Course/Poorly Managed
I've been playing The Falls for over 30 years and have seen it go thru numerous ownership and management. This latest management team has no clue. I've played there numerous times over the past year. Played there about month ago and paid about $42 and yesterday it was suddenly $74. Over these past several rounds this year, either the restaurant/grill and/or the halfway house has been closed...so it's iffy as to whether you can get something to drink or eat berfore, during , or after your round. And now the air conditioner in the clubhouse is broken, but management won't cut loose with the funds to get it fixed. It's a shame because the course itself is one of the more interesting and challenging in the grater Houston area.
Jay Riviere's escape from the city
Architect Jay Riviere was so fond of this design that he had a house out there. And for good reason. This is very much unlike the other courses he did in the Houston area. There's elevation change, wildlife, lots of doglegs and greens with a lot of slope in them. And all of it's in the middle of nowhere, which makes for a very serene, but testy golf experience. Yes, even though it's under 6,800 yards, it's a very challenging golf course. The day I played The Falls, it was also in excellent shape, despite a very challenging winter.
One of the better courses close to Houston
Overall course conditions were very good including sand traps, fairways and greens which are very quick.
Beautiful setting!
A very beautiful course albeit challenging greens.
Awesome golf course. A hidden gem.
This course is amazing. Really good greens. Interesting and challenging design. This is a must play experience.
Awesome course!
Even though it rained off and on during our round, the entire experience here was exceptional.
Overpriced
The Falls is a nice little course located in the middle of nowhere halfway between Austin and Houston. A friend of mine from Austin wanted to get together for 18 on a Friday morning, so I made the drive out to meet him. The practice facilities are nice enough, and I enjoyed messing around on the short game area and driving range before the round.
However, this course absolutely does not justify an $80 greens fee. In Houston, $80 will get you in to all but the highest echelon of courses at a peak time. This course is not in the same class as similarly priced courses like Wildcat or Blackhorse. I guess the fact that this course is literally 80 miles from the next nicest course gives them the right to charge these prices. The course is well maintained and challenging, but there are really only 2-3 great holes. There is nothing here to justify that kind of price.
If you can get a hot deal or a reduced price for a tee time it is a fun course that is well taken care of. However, I will not be returning to play here at full price.
Great conditions and well Maintained
A few days earlier, this area had lots of rain and ice. The course drained well and was in wonderful shape for mid March. We went back and played it again 3 days later. I would play this again when back in the area.
Disappointed
This has always been a first-class course. And quite pricey for our usual choice of courses. I was very disappointed that they did not have the snack bar available (You could go to the clubhouse but it is not convenient to do that during a round of play). The bunkers were not in very good shape either. When I pay the green fees they charge for that course, I expect more.
Love at first site
The course is not too long, but with tree lined fairways, water flowing throughout the course, and well placed bunkers, you best be on the short stuff. Great layout full of elevation change. A fun day from the tips for my first time out. Very scenic and peaceful. As it was mid-week, I felt like I was the only one on the course. I plan to visit again soon.
Very difficult greens
Lots of difficult holes. Some amost impossible to par.
Target golf
Wished they would have either had course layout on scorecard or at each hole.
Doesn't disappoint
Been coming here for a couple of years and always look forward to getting out here. I live in Atascocita and takes about 2hrs to get here, but well worth it!!
If you haven't been here, you need to come check it out. This is truly a hidden gem; especially since Troon Golf took it over.
Overall experience, I would rate 9 out of 10....only because I think the prices to stay overnight in their facilities are a little pricey.
Always a solid track
This course never fails to be a treat. Green are smooth, manicured and SLICK! Course is always in great shape. if I had a complaint, it would be their range... not real great, but they do have a nice chipping facility. overall, if you don't mind the drive, this should be high on your list.
