Nice greens.
The greens are the best part of this course. Cart paths are really bad in a lot of spots. Some fairway areas are just blocked off because they need serious repair. Some green side areas are rocky and really under grown. Tee boxes are either ripped to shreds or a giant mound with no level footing. Staff is quite nice and the bar and grill is roomy and comfy with decent priced beer. I got a sweet deal on my last round, but anything over $35 would be asking much for the shape it is in.
Big Improvements!!!
I have been playing this course for 4 years and you always knew that hole 12 and 15 had bad fairways, they were either mud or rock hard dirt. The greenskeeper and his staff have done a fantastic job with these two holes and they now are in great shape. They deserve a big pat on the back for fixing this issue.
Excellent conditions! Fast greens!
The fairways and greens are in great shape especially for winter golf. The greens were extremely fast. Made scoring tough. Lunch was fantastic and the cart girls came by often. Great day!!
Time to tend to course
My home course and becoming a bit frustrated with details of maintenance...While greens in fine shape, there remains "potholes" all over the fairways. Fill em in!!! Hit ball down the fairway and lands in mud hole...Tee boxes remain a side hill lie in some cases (17 ridiculous)....Time to get folks on course and fix fairway drainage to fix potholes AND finally do the traps overall....DETAILS as I love the track.
Horrendous pace
Horrendous pace of play. 6 hour round, fairways missing grass.
Iron Horse
This course is easy to play and I enjoy playing here but the pace of play was awful. Almost 5 and half hours to finish a round.
Forget my glasses
Please let me know when you got information Bout glasses.
When you find it.let me know .
Rough around the edges
Fairways in good shape but washouts abound just off. Need work around cart paths and first couple holes the greens are a bit shabby for this track...They DO get better as back 9 greens excellent...Sand traps bad and rain has had some to do with it, along with the yahoo's who don't rake.....Still a favorite to play and will improve with drier conditions....Little TLC needed around tee's and off fairways...
Improvements Needed
First, let me say that I am an Arcis Prime member, and I play Fossil Creek and Iron Horse frequently. Iron Horse has been in great shape all summer, and I use their driving range at least once a week. However, my most recent visit was disappointing. Tee boxes were rather poor, it was evident most of the markers had not been moved in several days. Fairways were average with several bare spots. Greens were slow and also had some bare spots. Bunkers had not been touched since the rains last month and were mostly dirt. Snack stop (at the train car) was not open all day. We had lunch after our round: no menus available, 2 of our 4 orders were wrong, dining service was below par.
Slow and not in good shape
I used to play Iron Horse often years ago but stopped because it was not a good value.
Decided to give it a try again and was extremely disappointed. Tee off at 7:30 am and it took 5 hrs to play as they started a small tournament on hole 4-8 and backed everything up. I don’t know about you but usually when to go out early part of the plan is to play at a decent pace. That was not evident and the Ranger did not seem to care.
Course was in below average condition at best. Greens had. a lot of damage and fairways we’re spotty in respect to grass. Not good. Do not play here and reward lack luster conditions for what you spend. I’ve played courses in better condition for $20 vs $60. charged to me today. Will not play again. Take my advice on this.
Gettting better
Front 9 greens improving as back 9 in good shape. So much rain so course soaked and mud everywhere...Need take care of dead spots on fairways and cart paths...Hard to review given the weather past 2 weeks..
WET TIMES
Much rain past days but good drainage. DID get rained out after 11 hours. Disappointed with the greens...Been away for awhile and were always in top shape early summer...Hope they improve for the fall season as I live on the course!!!
Summer stress?
Course condition was disappointing. Tee boxes were poorly maintained. Many fairways showed signs of stress. Greens were best overall and rolled true, but many holes showed damage to the rim. One hole on back nine (par 4) is undergoing what appeared to be new sod installation and tees were moved way up past midpoint yardage. Water stations are appreciated though and essential for the Texas summer heat. Not recommendable at this time.
