fair to poor conditions
Greens were sanded but not swept. The sand used had many rocks and other pieces of debris. Fairways were not plush and had numerous areas where there was not any grass at all. I consider this course not a good value for $39.00.
Minnesota OBX Vacation
We want our money back! You could not tell where the fairway ended or started. Course is in terrible shape! I would not recommend this course! My family is still mad at me for scheduling and playing such a poor golf course on our family vacation!
Missing direction
The fairway is average and the greens are good. For a first timer you'll lose your way temporary. The cart path is partially missing and some of the sign are not either there or clearly mark to direct you to the next tee.
The course was good for all levels of play
I enjoyed playing . The layout was good . A quick 18 holes.
Goat Ranch
This was a case of reviews that must be planned by the course. Based on the rating (3 star) and the glowing reviews we parted with $240 for a track that wasn't worth $20/player.
Not impressed
Picked up a Hot Deal Tee Time on Golf Now for cheap so we decided to use this course for a warmup as we would be playing the nicer courses later in the week. We got stuck behind slower players from the beginning (3:30PM) and we ended up getting kicked off the course while standing on the tee-box of the 18th hole at 8:05PM with plenty of daylight left to finish our round. While this course may have looked like a great deal online, it proved to be more frustrating than anything. The greens were inconsistent, the tee boxes were in rough shape, and course amenities were few and far between. The nicest part was the electric carts. I can honestly say that I will not recommend this course to any friends in the future.
Absolutely Horrible
I am a beginner golfer with only a year or two of experience and therefore I do not expect a course that is significantly outstanding in quality. Although for a vacation golf course I was expecting A LOT more from Holly Ridge. Power lines everywhere, Sand piles and weeds in tee boxes and greens. There is a pig course back by my home that is only $10 to golf 9 holes with a cart and it greatly exceeds the quality of this course. Do not waste your money or time golfing here whether you are a pro or just an okay golfer, it's not Worth it.
One of the Worst Ever!
I have been playing golf for 55 years. I play once or twice a week throughout Western PA and Ohio. I have played in Hilton Head, Ocean City, and Myrtle Beach.
This was truly one of the worst that I can remember in my career. It was dirt cheap/and that's what we got-plus weeds everywhere including the greens and anthills everywhere! Among all this awfulness were-very nice electric carts! Imagine that. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone including a beginner or a kid.
Cheapest golf in OBX, but you get what you pay for
I've only been playing for a few years, so this was a good course for me. It's short, there are relatively few bunkers, some fun par-3s and short par-5s. However, the grounds are awful (sand) and it's a rare site to find grass on the fairways.
Second hole has the worst-kept tee box I've ever seen.
Still, I enjoyed myself and shot an 85, which is excellent for me.
If you're a beginner on a tight budget in OBX, this is pretty much your only choice.
Overpriced
White tees were beat up and uneven. Blue tees ok . Fairways unkept. Greens not in good shape
Do not play at this course - terrible layout, terrible service
If you are in the Outer Banks, Holly Ridge is the only "value" course around. Let me tell you - it isn't worth it!
Our round started out with an awkward experience at the club house. We were teeing off at 4:20 and the owner/manager told us we had to be back at the clubhouse by 8. I've never been told a golf course closes at anything other than dark before. Since the place was relatively empty, you would think she would have welcomed our business. When we tried to pay for our round she told us the rate and we were buying drinks. To make sure we paid for them, we said "oh you forgot to include our drinks." She replied "I have to ring them on a different register!" Okay, we didn't know. Not exactly stellar service. The sign on the entrance "Anyone playing with range balls will be asked to leave the course" should have been a warning. Who plays with range balls?
If only we would have known the course would actually be worse. On the second hole, I hit a great 8-iron, only to have a power line knock it down and hit it in the water. Power lines stretch across 5-6 holes on this course. And I don't mean if you hit an errant shot you may hit one. You frequently have to hit your balls through HUGE power lines and hope it makes it through the gaps. Fairways are not maintained well - sand in them, scrub grass, and uneven maintenance. The distances are awkward (a 420-yd par 5 from the tips?) and holes go from narrow and tight to completely wide open. No cohesion to the layout. It's hard to tell on many of the tees where the fairway ends and the rough begins or where to aim.
I've played 50+ courses over the years - this is BY FAR the worst. Unwelcoming service, bad layout, poor maintenance, and power lines. We had a good time b/c I was with fun people and we spent our time laughing at how weird this course was.
Drop the coin and go to one of the nicer courses. This place is only for duffers and those just trying to practice.
Don't play here
The golf in North Carolina is over priced as it is, but 60 bucks to play a course that is kept worse than my backyard is preposterous. Bite the bullet and spend the extra money elsewhere
Ohioans
Slow play all around, didn't really know where to get beverages, good thing we had a cooler! Snack and soda cart came around on the 15th hole.
It's a very good beginner course, or
in-experienced golfer course. Not really worth the $59.00
Terrible, Terrible, Terrible
Not worth even $15 to play. This place was a farm that someone decided to drop some holes in the ground and call it a golf course. Never will be back to this one and would honestly be glad to see it go out of business... This place is a disservice to the sport it's so bad.
Golf value on OBX
After yrs of playing pricey OBX resort courses we gound a little gem at half the price. Family friendly, value and fun to play. Skip the big clubhouse and go right to first tee of a fun golf outing. If u need an 8000 yd course, this is not for u. If ur a beginner, senoir , value conscious or want lots of birdie attempts then this is the course.Try it and see for ur self. For us, will be back to Holly Ridge next yr.
tis a golf course
we got on the course using the hot deal of the day for 17 dollars a person with cart at 2:30 pm. so for that rate it was hard to pass up, I would have been highly disappointed paying the regular rate. greens roll slow, and they were small greens. very short course, great for warming up to play more expensive courses. would not recommend planning a holiday around this course in and of itself. this would be the equivelant of a municipal course that you learned how to play golf on. If you can accept it for what it is, its not a bad course, and could recommend that anyone play it for less than 35$, any more than that and you might be a little disheartened by what you find. several par 3s, actually 3 of them in a row at one point, but has a back nine that is not simple by any means, 2 par 5s back to back, that you need straight drives on, and several drivable par 4s, risk reward.. shot 84 with 5 penalty strokes, first time playing it. and if you go into the woods, check yourself for ticks, as with every course.
Nice course for the price
I booked our round before I read the reviews of others, so I was a bit uneasy as to what we would find. I was pleasantly surprised by what we found. Though the clubhouse is NOT fancy (basic drink cooler and packaged snacks), the staff was very friendly. The course was well kept - nicely mowed, well manicured - though not fancy. The fairways were green and soft, the greens were green and even, and the tee boxes (which were the weakest feature) were still green and in decent shape. It was a nice course for the price.
A very pleasant afternoon for a group of six.
Easy to get tee time and make arrangements for six to play following each other in groups. Not crowded.
OBX GOLF OUTING
Course was short but challenging. Greens were in relatively good shape.
Could use better markings for yardage and hazards. Staff was not very helpful.
It was good vale for the money but customer service is in need of upgrade
