Gran Coyote Golf Riviera Maya
About
Situated just minutes from Playa del Carmen, the Gran Coyote Golf Riviera Maya (formerly known as Grand Coral Riviera Maya) snakes through dense Mayan jungle with scenic glimpses of the Caribbean Sea throughout. The designer, Nick Price, laid heavy emphasis on having the most minimal environmental impact as possible while still providing a fair and challenging round. He even employed a team of biologists and environmental consultants to determine how to minimize water consumption and protect the native wildlife. Price carefully preserved and incorporated the native vegetation into the golf course so that it blends seamlessly into the beautiful surroundings. The dense jungle comes into play along the fairways, requiring some accuracy to maneuver or else you'll surely lose a ball. Water hazards come into play on several holes and there are also strategically placed bunkers lurking near the greens.

Great Golfcourse
Nice and challenging golfcourse. The normal price from ¢299 is too expensive.
Unexpected gem
I was very surprised on the course and layout. Each hole had cool features and challenges. The tips would be really tough! Greens have subtle breaks so you have to commit to your line. Close to Playa Del Carmon. Play then head into town for food and shops.
All inclusive
You need to upgrade to all inclusive or have an option for it. It would greatly increase your revenue
Greens in bad shape
The greens were in terrible shape and the pace of play was slow the price was to high at 95 buckshad better deal and greens at Hard Rock Golf course
Very player friendly
I found the course to be very player friendly. Fairly wide open and straight forward. I did manage to find a bunch of bunkers today, but they were all in great shape. We found a deal online and this place was week worth what we paid. The staff is top notch, from the starter to the beverage cart, and even the ranger were all super friendly and attentive. My only complaint was that the greens were some what inconsistent, as a few greens had some thin areas. I think that in a week or two they should be in great shape.
Great final round.
Decided at the last minute to play Grand Coral again (3rd time) before heading home from vacation.
Course was in good shape and we moved along pretty well.
Broke 80 for 2nd time on the trip and we got to see a gator/croc as well as the monkeys making an appearance on the 18th green. Great ending to a wonderful vacation!
Enjoyable round
Despite a couple rain delays and eventually being washed out by downpours after a fantastic drive on the 18th, we still enjoyed the round. Course was in good shape despite the rain. Beats shovelling snow!
Better Option
This course is not a bad track by any stretch of the imagination, there are just better options in the area. Sections of fairways and greens are burnt out and to me that is not acceptable in a tropical climate. Bunkers were in good shape as well as the tee boxes. If you like to golf and don't mind spending a little extra there are much better options. Mayakoba and Riviera Cancun to start.
According to the staff they lost irrigation for a week and have lost some of the fairway. Spring rules apply
Grand Coral
Great course. Great conditions. Greens are SLOW. There is ZERO run up to the greens! Play your shot 3-5 yards short of the pin and you will do well. We did a 1:40 tee time. I highly recommend playing as early as possible even if it is exponentially more expensive. If you can afford $60 US, you can afford $120 to golf. You will not regret playing at 6:40 and paying full price and pass up sweating your butt off all day in 100 degree heat indexes
Interesting Track
Staff was fabulous, so helpful. Was rained out on the first day, got a raincheck and returned the following day with no issues.
The layout of this course is challenging, the par 3's are fairly long (depending on tees of course) and I enjoyed the different shots required to score here.
That said, and this is true of Mayakoba (nicest track in the area) as well, the greens are SLOW. If you don't like slow greens, this isn't the place for you. They were amazingly true and smooth, but very very slow, which I believe is normal for the region.
From a maintenance standpoint, the course could be a bit better. Tee boxes and greens were well maintained, there were some rough spots in the fairways where they needed a bit more grass, but this could be indicative of the time of year (VERY hot, humid weather).
I would recommend this track, primarily due to the service and staff friendliness. Layout is good, and from the tips will give you all you could ask for!!
Mayakoba is the gem of this region, but Grand Coral is less than 1/2 the price (maybe 1/3 depending on what rate you get, Mayakoba wanted $299 on some sites) making it a good value if you are in the Playa Del Carmen area.
Better than ever
This was my second time playing this course. I played in fall of 2015 and it was great then and even better now.
I love the layout, the greens roll true, at at just over 7000 from the tips it's 141 slope is challanging.
They updated all their carts since last time which is a nice added touch. We paid $89 per person which is a great deal for what you get. I'm sure if you stay on property it's even better.
Looking forward to coming back, it's a must in the area.
Nice course!
We selected this course for the price and hopefully wider fairways. The course was in good condition. I would recommend this course!
Customer Service
The golf staff forgot to pick us up at the hotel and did not answer the phone when the hotel staff called. Had to take a taxi. Got there just in time to tee off. We had paid for the bucket of balls, which we never received and the staff girl in charge of sending the driver, rolled her eyes when her supervisor was disciplining her. Yes, I speak Spanish. We have golfed here many times and have had similar experiences. Course is beautiful. Cancelled our Thursday tee time.
