An unexpected diversion during our round. Photo submitted by Chuck2063203 on 07/05/2018
Ready for Replay
Not our first time to play this course, but eager to best our last round. Walking was fine, even in hot June sun.
Greens were soft enough so played well. Tee box for best hole was closed so all tee from same spot.
Good course to include in our travels through the area.
Do not play this course after a tournament!!!
The course was set up for tournament play. They had completed a tournament the past weekend. The pin placements were almost impossible. The rest of the course was nice. The sandtraps hadn't been raked. Overall this course was not set up for a beginner trying to enjoy a day of golf.
Great layout
Course was in excellent shape, selection of tees really determines how difficult you want the course to be.
favorite local course.
I play Pineville all the time. this course ranges from a fair challenge from the 3 tees to a monster from the back. Course is always well kept. It gets a little swampy if there has been wet weather. greens were perfect. Shot my worst round of the summer and still had a blast. Like I said the course is a blast. But if you don't like water stay home. this place has water on 13 holes.
Best course in the area
This is a relatively flat course, which is interesting considering it is located in the Appalachian mountains of southeastern Kentucky. The location is basically a lush valley in between two mountain ridges, with water serving as the primary hazard on this course. The greens are tricky, the mountain surroundings are beautiful, and the conditions are very nice overall. If you are driving from far away, I recommend staying at the State Park Lodge up on the mountain, where the food is good and view is better.
Hole 1--short dogleg left par 4, birdie opportunity as long as you stay right off the tee.
Hole 2--short par 5, another birdie opportunity. Watch out for high rough to the right on second shot.
Hole 3--par 3 well protected by two bunkers. Bail out is left and short
Hole 4--par 4 with a tricky green.
Hole 5--very unique, short par 5, plays very narrow with water on the left and a huge hillside to the right. The difference between birdie and double bogey is staying out of the water.
Hole 6--par 3 over water, short and left is the best miss.
Hole 7--par 5 with water on both sides, the fairway is essentially a peninsula that narrows the further you hit it off the tee.
Hole 8--relatively easy par 3
Hole 9--straight par 4 demands a good tee shot over the water and accurate second shot to shallow green.
Hole 10--par 4 that bends to the right, with some water on the second shot. Stay left off the tee to avoid getting blocked by trees.
Hole 11--dogleg left par 4 that calls for a fairway wood played to the right from the tee.
Hole 12--par 4, the only hole with significant elevation change and trees on both sides. Very pretty tee shot. A creek is in play if you miss the green too far right.
Hole 13--long par 3, open in front
Hole 14--longer par 5 without much trouble, other than a few fairway bunkers.
Hole 15--long straight par 4 with forced carry over water on second shot.
Hole 16--short par 4 with tee shot over water.
Hole 17--long par 3 over water and a bunker.
Hole 18--very long par 5 with water to the right off the tee. Water splits the fairway at about 150 yards out, forcing most players to lay up between 150 and 200 yards out for third shot to narrow green. Don't go left on the third shot.
Good value and nice layout...
I've always enjoyed played playing in Pineville. I like the mixture of terrain.....carrying water, elevated tees looking down the valleys, mountain scenery, etc.
Great course! A must play or replay!
Love this course! Very friendly staff. Good putting/chipping practice green and driving range. Excellent teaching for lessons. Holes 5,6 & 7 are teeth of the course, in my opinion. Beware the Devil's Backbone! Greens are always in great shape. Five sets of tees to challenge advanced to beginning golfers with senior and ladies tee. Also has First Tee - tee boxes on every hole for beginning junior golfers.

Nice course with lots of water. Would recommend to play
Thanks for telling is aerated
You normally put when a course is being aerated. The greens we're impossible to putt on because of this. Not a knock against the course, because I've played it when it isn't aerated and it's amazing, but against GolfNow for not informing me of it as they normally do.
Course surrounded by Appalachian beauty!
Visited for second time while on business in KY. As I was solo, was invited to join deliteful threesome of local gentlemen and good golfers for what was my best round of golf ever. Beautiful mountains surround this well designed course. Depending on which of 5 tee box levels you choose, this course is as challenging as you desire!
One step below excellence
The cousre layout is incredible! It's set in a beautiful valley with a stream running through it and a few lakes. the tee shots from the tips really challenge, you need to make well thought out shots. The greens are soft but very well maintained. the sand traps were actually full of sand and it was raked (awesome). the par 5's were not easy birdies. The tee boxes need a little love, crab grass on some. The fairways were cut to a nice length, definitely playable, but they need to pick a turf. Some of the fairways were also a little wet. I think it's because I was first out or maybe the valley but not a big deal. In the end, I loved this course. It is a very fun and beautiful courseI definitely plan on coming back.
very challanging front 9
love this course...a mediocur golfer finds this challanging and fun, the front 9 wet, back 9 hilly. overall a great place to shoot.
Course had some difficult holes, but also some easy holes.
Greens are in pretty good shape for the most part. Fairways in places needed some work. Overall, pretty good course. I would go back.
