Course was in poor condition from the heat. There were countless earthen cracks in the fairways that swallow golf balls. Greens were not smooth. No water on the course. What, in this heat? The two employees behind the concession counter were very not friendly.
Ughhe
The only time I’ve ever lost a golf ball in the center of a fairway. Not just 1 ball but 2. The fairways have so many huge cracks and crevices in them that it makes it impossible to find a golf ball should it roll into them.
Riding a golf cart in the fairways is as uncomfortable as riding in the ruff or maybe even worse. I know it has been hot and very little rain this summer but give a small bit of responsibility to the maintenance crews.

Golfing during a drought
The end of September in Southeast Texas can be extremely hot and humid, as it was last Friday, but we are also dealing with a drought of several weeks, so there were cracks in the turf, but fairways and rough, as well as some damage to the cart paths. I always enjoy playing at Southwyck and I feel for the management who have to deal with what Mother Nature doles out these days!

Used to be a good course
They are putting zero money in this course unfortunately. The clubhouse is dirty and dated. The golf carts are in bad shape. The 2nd hole looked like an earthquake happened. The back 9 was better. I haven’t played there in 3 years and now I k ow why. Started playing this course back in the late 90’s. Sad to see in its current condition

Needs water badly
This course used to be a gem, now it’s just a below average muni. The cracks are so big in the fairway you can easily loose balls. Greens are good but I’m sorry it’s not worth $59 on weekends. I’ve been playing this course for 23 years and my disappointment level is very high.

Beware of fault lines
The fair way is full of fault lines the size of the San Andres in California! I swear there are balls lost in those faults that belong to the underworld now!

Needs Major Repairs
In all fairness we are in a drought here in East Texas. However the fairways were so bad that i literally lost golf balls in the fairway. There are huge cracks in the fairways that literally swallow up balls. It was hard to drive the golf cart on the front nine fairways. If you do play here you’ll want to play the back nine twice as they are in much better shape. However they are in need of repair as well. The back nine had less cracks in the fairways but they were far from being good. Staff was nice and helpful.

Course Conditions Awful
Serious rework of the fairways needs to happen. Major cracking in all fairways where you can lose your ball. Random long crazy in middle of fairway. All around major irrigation updates needs to happen. They are destroying a great layout course.

Nice layout, terrible condition
Southwyck golf course has a nice layout. I enjoy the course design and the shots it requires me to hit. It’s so unfortunate that the fairways are in such terrible condition. In general the tee boxes and greens mostly are in decent condition, but the fairways are awful. It would be wonderful if somehow the course condition would be addressed…..:personally I would pay more for a round there if that was done.
The staff are always friendly and courteous.

HOT HOT HOT
Course was so dry that ground had huge cracks in it. Found three balls in fairway cracks. Made driving cart on fairway difficult and bone jarring. Some greens were very iffy.

Terrible Condition
It’s like playing on a different planet. They don’t water the fairways and with the drought, it has caused massive cracks in the fairways that are as big as 6-8 inches wide and some down to 3 deep. They removed all the sand bunkers but did not remove the drains from them so the ball just rolls down next to it. They force you to buy a hotdog if you want to buy alcohol. Greens were decent atleast. Tee boxes were in terrible condition as well. I would not recommend this course to anyone until the conditions improve which I’ll never know unless it’s free to play there. I lost 3 balls in the middle of the fairway somewhere in one of the cracks.

Great layout, not well maintained
Southwyck used to be a great course, not sure what happened. The course fairways are so dry that there are crack that you can lose your ball in. The greens are so slow and full of rough spots and crab grass. So sad to see such a great course not kept up.
