A beautiful if cold winter's day .A wonderful challenge and course in great condition for he time of year
Wait until extensive improvement work is completed
£125 green fee is a bit too much for a course under construction.
Really disappointed
Heard alot of good reviews of the Addington of the last few years, but...
Whilst I understand the course is going through maintenance work, the general condition of fairways & greens was poor. £80 green fee + £40 for a buggy is well over priced for the state of the course. Fairways were uncut & shabby at best. Bare patches on greens and no defined aprons/fringes. In fairness, the layout of the course is very nice, but overall feeling is that Ive over paid for a course that was in disrepair.
Wont be returning sadly.
Good course, but difficult.
Green is very well maintained. Fairway can be improved. New car park and entrance feels much better than previous. Very difficult for beginners - but should prove to be a fun game for more seasoned playa.
I will be back.
Layout let down by state of course
The course was in bad condition and for the price not one I would recommend. Fairways not distinguishable and bare and rutted. Greens mostly in good condition but quite a few had damage around them. Course is a lovely layout with lots of different holes and a few blind hits which require thought.
Would play again but only if condition improves dramatically..
Review
The course is very tight so keeping it straight is a must. Picturesque with lots of nice features.
The fairways were not great so pick and place was handy as they improve but the greens were excellent.
It was very slow but I blame that on the 4 ball with some oldies that seemed oblivious to the problem and wouldn’t let anyone through.
Poor conditions for the price
I’ve played here dozens of times and this was comfortably the worst. The pro shop staff said that as our round was after 3pm that we couldn’t have a buggy, as apparently there wouldn’t be anyone in after the round to take collection.
The course was in a very poor state, the greens were bobbly and sandy, and the areas other than the greens were baron and cracked, any clearly hadn’t seen any form of water or attempt at maintaining them for weeks.
As one of the hottest days on record we expected some provision of drinks at the half way hut, but they were closed at 4pm so we had to go the whole round on very limited fluid supplies.
The charge of £50 for a round is fine when the course is in good condition, but for the above we left feeling shortchanged.
As things stand we won’t be going back anytime soon.
Addington
Played this course in July, Fairways were very poor the worse I have played and not worth the £65 paid. Some very scenic holes and no doubt if in better condition would be a great course.
Beautifully looked after, but strange to play
Loved the course and the clubhouse, really beautiful setting. Only issue with this course is that I felt beyond paying £65 for the course, unless you also purchase a £10 course guide it’s unnecessarily difficult. As a walk on good handicapped golfer, almost every tee shot is either blind over a hill or a dog leg round a corner. It’s challenging, which is excellent, but with only 1 par 3 over 150 yards I felt like it was too focused on deadly accuracy and left little be desired for a long hitter, the driver ‘should have’ never left the bag. Would play again now I know the course, but as a walk on golfer I found it very frustrating seeming hitting a great tee shot up the middle, to be met by random strips of fairway and a lost ball in unforgiving and randomly placed patches of rough once you walked over the brow of the hill.
Won't find a better course to Pay and Play
Fantastic greens, very mature course, interesting layout in parts (questionable 8 & 9 th holes back to back!)
Lack of fairway watering means it is bare in certain areas. We played preferred lies on the fairway.
I am going back this Thursday to play again, loved it!
Not bad. Scratchy fairways
Layout good especially for a London course. Quick smooth greens. Friendly. Fairways like a cheap public course. Slow, but Saturday pm so dont complain.
The Addington
It’s an fantastic course don’t know where to start. Every hole is different, the par three unbelievable with great views of London definitely recommend to a friend. A pro shop which is very friendly would recommend a course Guide some hole are very different. Got to be one of the top course in south east. I’ll definitely be back soon.
Beast of a course
Excellent track. Fairways are pretty burned out but the greens are excellent. Great time.
Excellent course
We really enjoyed this course and envy the members. First off, the staff is very friendly. And so were several members who, while we were waiting to start, offered us advice on the course. The layout of the course is exciting. Excellent greens. There are 18 distinct holes, each with its own challenges. Holes 1-4 are no slouches but I'd say that the course really gets going at No. 5. No 9 was shocking --- an amazing dogleg with the approach over a ravine. Very happy to have played.
Addington in Lock Down
Visit didn't start to well with a grumpy greeting in pro shop. No real welcome, have you played here before, do you know where the 1st tee is.
Clubs need to find a way of generating revenue but a bit bizarre to have mobile bar right by (within a few yards) the 1st tee. Quite a few people hanging around, all a bit congested. Must be somewhere else they could locate it to give you a bit of space. Felt like you were teeing off in the middle of a garden party.
Course was a great challenge, greens were undulating, true and quick. Fairways struggling as a consequence of the dry period we have had, but most courses in the SE England have had similar problems. Lots of blind shots so will be back to play it again.
Excellent course and friendly staff
Really enjoyed this course which is fair but challenging and will only get better towards the summer months . Staff friendly too so would definitely recommend and play again in the future
A Tough but Fair Challenge
I have played The Addington for a number of years and the course is probably the best it has been. Over the past few years work has been done on extending tee boxes, replacing bunkers, removing trees and installing irrigation, all of which add to the quality of the course and playing conditions. The only criticism would be that the course has some small areas that could be tidied up where work has been done (rough areas, debris piles, fallen branches, etc) just off the fairways but these are aesthetic and don’t detract from the playing condition. The greens are as good as they have ever been and run fast and true.. a must play if you are in the London area..
