Nice but Noisy!
It has been many years in the making since the County Golf Club on the same site was closed, and it has taken quite a number of years to get this new course open. Bit disappointed to see in one or two of the reviews as as of today, the course has been open just 5 weeks so it is expected to have a few gremlins.
Signing on, golf shop etc is all in the attached Hilton Hotel and the only eating and refreshments available are also in there and are truthfully, quite expensive - in truth, avoid!
The first thing that hits you on the first tee is the noise, the nearby M27 is very very noisy, such so that normal conversation is impossible, and for the first 5 or 6 holes, is quite distracting.
The course itself is a mix of very varied holes indeed, but although only 5511 yds off whites, it is a tough walk indeed, and you will need no excuse to have a buggy if you wish, the only problem here being again the high cost, £30! The shortage in length is really made by the fact that there are 7 par 3's,whilst conversely there are 4 par 5's, all of which are very challenging.
As of today, the sculptured greens are fine, not as fast as some, but again, very new, the fairways are really good and the rough is far enough away and not too heavy, although there are large areas of thick clover, which can easily gobble up a ball. The biggest disappointment on the course are the tees, these have obviously not had the same attention as the rest of the course and are not very good as yet.
Making the walk also seemingly hard work is the fact that there are a number of long distances between green and next tee, with the worst being a 150 yard trudge up a steep hill to the 10th tee only to hit straight back down to a not very good par 4.
All in all, a nice new course which I am certain will be a popular addition to the Southampton scene, but until more golf orientated facilities are encompassed, is not really suitable for societies.
The course is bound to improve, but I fear also that when it does, so the costs will go up.
Boundary lakes golf course
The setting and location of this course is very good, it's got an elevated location next the hampshire cricket ground. My only criticism is that is some ground work going on near some of the holes.
Great course
I have played boundary lakes many years ago and feel the new layout of the back 9 is a beautiful addition to an already lovely course. The value for money I feel to be really good and I hope it stays that way rather than hiking the prices up once all the work is completed. I feel the course is challenging but fair and has amazing views and beautiful greens. I would go back to this course without hesitation.
Absolutely stunning
Absolutely amazing for the time of year considering all the rain we’ve had over the last couple of weeks the course was in amazing condition hats off to the green keepers I’ll definitely be back in the summer
Absolutely stunning
Considering it’s January and the amount of rain that we’ve had over the last couple of weeks, the course was in an amazing condition. Greens were fantastic tea boxes that were open were amazing and I’m accurate. The course in general was stunning highly recommend this course hats off to the greenkeepers and the staff for maintaining the course, especially with the weather we’ve had over the last few weeks would highly recommend playing boundary lakes. If you’ve not played it it is stunning
Good first round of the year
Greens where perfectly kept. Some of the fairways like wet but can’t complain for the time of year.
Boxing Day fun
Played the course for a second time overall good condition given poor weather recently undergoing changes to layout which did not hamper the enjoyment good value
Afternoon Tee Off
Tight challenging course in excellent condition. Booking said Buggy included but on arrival were told no buggies after 130pm. We were booked at 230pm which was huge dissapointment.
Brilliant, but will be even better once finished.
Played here to try out the new holes.
Course was in good condition and looked beautiful, but I think they have opened the new holes abit early. There was no hole layout at the tee so it was just a completely blind tee shot at times.
Greens were good and fairways were immaculate.
Pace of play was poor though.
Would like to come back once the new holes are all completed properly and the changes are made.
Play
Extremely slow no one out ther chasing up slow play they have changed some of the holes and there is no discription or yardage greens inconsistent
Potential but choose tee time wisely and best wait until reconstruction works complete.
Let’s start with the positives. Staff helpful and friendly. Course played fair given the terrible wet weather early April and the greens were first class.
And now the negatives. The pace of play was excruciatingly slow. We waited every single shot, from the first tee to the last, sometimes for as long as five minutes. There was two sets of players on the same tee on every hole and as much as four sets of players on a single hole. It was way, way over subscribed and I can only put this down to simple greed. Six minutes between tee times is totally insufficient. We started at 13.32 and Dad walked after 13 as he had an evening engagement! Two of three players from the group behind also walked in after 13 and when the remaining player inevitably caught me up on the 15th tee, we completed the round together. The round lasted the best part of 5 hours!
And to cap it off, this golf course is in the middle of a major revamp. I’m sure it will be pretty darn good once complete but, having completed the first 7 holes right next to the thundering noise of the M27, the next half dozen holes were affected by major building works. Greens immaculate but playing in and around a building site, coupled with the waiting did not make for the relaxing afternoon we had sought.
I would like to give this place a second chance when the works are complete. The members are rightly excited by what it will become but for today, it was overpriced for what was a noisy, overcrowded and ridiculously long round.
A good chance to try out the changes made to the course
I took the opportunity to play this course to check out the new holes on 9, 10 and the tinkering to 11, 12 and the 17th tee. Very enjoyable afternoon round. I wish they'd alter holes 1 to 3 where I managed to lose 4 balls, though one was down to my rank incompetence from the drop zone on hole 2. In fairness even these holes have had a few helpful improvements too.
Boundary
Great course, let down by how congested it gets.
Definitely worth playing though.
Great condition stunning views
First time I have played this course. Bearing in mind the horrendous weather lately, the course was in good condition, grabs were great.
Stunning views highly recommended.
Looking forward to retiring in the future
Great advice from the starter on the first tee . Thank you
Boundary lakes
Unfortunately very slow play, 5.5 hours for 18 holes is just too slow
Course is a building site.
Considering it’s a new course to be redesigning it already is pretty poor. It’s like playing in a building site.
