Bargain
Ok, so one hole was shut and there were a couple of winter greens, but for £10 it’s still great value. The young guy in the shop was really friendly and almost apologetic about the course, but we’d read the reviews and were expecting it. A bit boggy in places but millionaires golf at bargain prices. Well done and will deffo play again.
All round, a great round.
Lovely course, very versatile, a real good mixture of play. greens were slightly boggy, but due given, we’ve had lots of rain, 19th hole facilities were beautiful, food was amazing and the other facilities were stunning
Okay
The fairways were pretty long and acted like a first cut the ball didn’t run on as it usually does. The greens were too slow. This could be due to the weather during the previous week.
The 3rd hole was out of action due to construction work on the site. The 4th hole and the 14th were way too close together it was as if you were sharing a fairway in opposite directions.
Overall it wasn’t great and not really worth the green fee.
The lad in the pro shop was great. Really helpful and enjoyed a chat.
The changing rooms were dated and need renovation.
A manor house that seems more bothered about weddings than the golf which is understandable I suppose.
very enjoyable round
we booked this round on a whim on a day we had nothing to do and backed a winner .The price was right £15 each and in view of recent heavy rain in the area the course was in good condition , although the 3rd hole was closed and the 15th played to a winter green . we had two periods of light rain which did not last more than a couple of minutes . We had the course to ourselves which was great ..Give this course a go you will not be disappointed .
Not a bad course
Played as 2ball in Sunday tee off time was 1028 I thought it would of just been a 2ball but the bookings are for 4 so was a bit disappointed when we were supposed to tee off due to the COVID situation we ask the others to tee off 5 mins before us so we could stay in our own little bubble . The course was testing a couple of tight tee offs trees either side and the river to contend with if you go too far to the right . Currently there are only 17 holes to play as the 3rd tee is not playable at the moment. The bunkers were rock hard so if your ball went in it shot back out onto the green. I Would play here again ..
JOKE
The you guy in the. Pro shop was great . After that it was awful .
3rd hole closed Andy hasn’t been for quite some time .15th on winter green .
16th green flooded .
There is no such thing as fairways / 1st - 2nd cut , it’s just long grass .
Virtually impossible to find a ball even on the so called fairway ,
How’ they can charge full price for a course like this Ian unbelievable when thunder know it’s som poor ,
Obviously there are no green Keepers , keep your money and play somewhere else.
There is no investment in the course whatever
Great condition
Despite one hole closed I enjoyed the course (I was informed the hole was closed at time of booking) it’s many years since I last played Aldwalk what a difference It was not 18 holes last time. Lovely course
Worst course I've ever played
The title is not an exaggeration. This is the worst course I have played in my life both in terms of layout and condition.
The opening hole is a dreadfully boring par 3 in which you tee off from what is basically the car park. The 3rd hole wasn't on and we weren't made aware of this before booking, so actually paid for 17 holes of golf - we were told we were allowed to play the 1st hole twice if we wanted to... this made me feel worse as oppose to better. The 4th hole was from a winter tee (in August) resembling a building site. The 15th green was a temporary green (in August) and completely unacceptable as a putting surface - see pic.
The overall condition was dreadful. Greens were incredibly saturated indicating huge drainage problems, rough was stupidly long (almost losing balls just off the fairway), fairways were inconsistent and muddy, tee boxes looked like they'd been attacked by a JCB on a daily basis.
Although the course layout did improve somewhat after crossing the river, the holes on the same side as the hotel felt crammed in in an attempt to create an 18 hole golf course, some even sharing fairways which was stupid and dangerous.
Other guests playing the course were seen in t-shirts and trainers.
The hotel bar at the end was nice and the staff were friendly but for golf, AVOID AT ALL COSTS. I wouldn't return if they paid me £16 per hole to play it.
Aldwark
I was surprised to be infomed on arrival that the 3rd hole was out of action and the 15th a winter green. My son and I played Aldwark twice last year and enjoyed it but it will be a good while before we go back.
