Allestree
Very friendly staff
Course in good condition . Extremely good value for money
Final Game
This was my final game before the proposed shut down of the course by Derby County Council unless there is a miraculous change of mind.
Even though the area has other courses this will be a great loss for golf as there are not many Municipal courses available and this is the best I've ever played.
I'm at a loss to understand why the pricing system couldn't have been changed over the years to help the financial costs involved in the running of the course
Tough course
Up hill down hill around trees over trees. Fantastic views from top of course. This one has everything except lakes. A good place to play.
Allestree park
Really nice morning, the course is fairly challenging as it's up and down, with several of the greens set on levels above the faiway. I;m getting back into golf after a 2 year layoff so the price is perfect and I can get away early giving me the chance to study where i;m going wrong without hindering players behind. I hope it doesn't close as I've heard rumours it might.
Enjoyable
First round at this quirky course and really enjoyed the course. Booking in was easy with a friendly hand in the club shop. There are many people walking around the course at it seems to be in a country park. They don’t really cause any issues and keep out of the way.
The course is in good condition and was firm. Greens were on the whole true but were running slow when putting but weren’t too receptive to a ball in from a wedge. Carrying was challenging as most holes are sloped in some way. Trolley is ideal.
A mixed variety of holes, some allowing a fade and some needing a draw, some long and some short. Pace of play was good and even got let through a few times.
All in all, enjoyable, recommended, great value and will be back.
7/10
Allestree Park
Really enjoyed playing here today. Not visited allestree for a number of years and was unsure of how the conditions would be. The tees fairways and greens were in great condition although the greens were a little slow given the amount of rain they’ve had recently. The friendly reception at the shop was handled very well given the current situation.. Will definitely return in the future.
Never reached its potential
I was a member at Allestree Park Golf Course for 12 years. It always had the potential to be the best course in Derbyshire but never reached its potential due to Council Non Commitments. Now its closed due to Council Non Commitments. Some low handicappers realized its potential , but the high handicappers who ran the club and the non golf Derby Council never realized it. Its a crying shame. You cannot build a golf course with this superior course layout. All it needed was lengthening slightly and a few new hazards adding and it would have been the best in Derbyshite - no doubt about it.! Now its gone - due to Money or Lack of it! - abit like the European Super Soccer League.
Really nice but....
Really nice fairways and greens, as this is within a park there were loads of people milling around on the edge of the fairways and inbetween holes, just means a few hold ups while people walk along the paths, the only negative about this course is the layout few times we had absolutely no idea where the next tee was as the signage was a bit sparse to say the least there is a map on the scorecard but its a bit pants. but overall great couse for the weekend golfer as for the mostpart the faiways are wide and open, i only lost 4 balls all round bonus!!
Course in Poor Condition
Have played at this course many times. The greens have become very slow and full of moss. The tees were either muddy or on untidy mats. The conditions were quite muddy and wet and it proved difficult to enjoy the experience. To top it off there was no food on offer except crisps and no bitter available at the bar. The venue seems to have deteriorated in recent months and I will not be playing there again unless there is some kind of change.
Enjoyable coirse
Although this course is a municipal it was an enjoyable round. Much better than other municipal courses in the Derby area. A few tea areas were poor but for the price it was well worth it. Will definitely play again. Hopefully it will remain open after this season when Hotel company take over
Municipal Social
For a parkland course the fairways and greens are well kept. It’s quite hilly which leads to a lot of uphill and downhill holes and shots. Only negative was the pace of play as it took 4,50hrs and meant a lot of time waiting on the tees. Good value for the price. Too easy of a course for good golfers but would highly recommend for anyone new to golf golf or 12+ handicap.
