Horrible
I know we had some rain but the course was ridiculous. Tons of huge clover patches and weeds. You really couldn't tell there was a fairway. I won't ever play here again.
What did they remodel????
Long story short. Greens were nothing but sand. The place needs a good mowing. The bathroom was pretty disgusting. The course was pretty empty which usually I don’t mind, but after playing, it’s obvious why. I’ve played there before and other than the front and back being switched, I can’t see any improvements or changes. The staff was super friendly though so A+ for that. Won’t golf here again. Would spen an extra $8 and play a Dallas muni. Super disappointed.
Course condition
The condition of this course is very poor. Greens are not good. Fairways aren’t mowed. Water warm and no cups. Carts are not in good condition.
Terrible Course
Terrible greens, fairways, and wide open course. They need some landscape maintenance help!
Great Staff...but terrible course!!
I write this review with a heavy heart. I used to love this course. It was one of the premier courses 8-10 years ago. Unfortunately, this course is not playable. It's over taken by weeds, the fairways are bare and overall the course is just not in good shape at all. The driving range area is full of weeds and basically, you're hitting off dirt. I blame the city for this. With all the construction they did, driving these huge trucks on the fairway -- the course just never had a chance to recover. Now, it's become a shell of itself. The staff is fantastic. Always helpful!!! Unfortunately, this will be my last time coming to this course, but I wish the staff and the course all the best....
Don’t like giving bad reviews BUT.......
The course was in terrible shape. It was ok if you’re just looking to get out and hit some shots but if you’re looking to score your shots and really get a feel for your game, this is not the place. The fairways looked like backyard grass. Wasn’t cut or groomed. The greens were soaked with water. Staff was good people but I will not play again.
I can't believe they are getting away with charging to play this course. Deplorable conditions.
Why did they even let us on the course?
Entire course was previously flooded, now completely washed out. Only 9 holes were open and you could play them twice for $15 each go around. Honestly the place should have been closed. I need new golf shoes after all the mud. No grass on the “fairways” and the “greens” were dead grass/dirt/nothing. I paid $13 to book a tee time online however there was no warning of the course conditions or partial closure. Still had to pay $15 to play 9 holes. I would have walked out if it wasn’t a 40 minute drive from the house. TL;DR Avoid this course at all costs. Don’t waste your time or money like I did.
Awesome course and benefits
I would HIGHLY recommend this course to all my golf enthusiasts, great vibes...
I’m A Repeat Customer
Though my review is basically positive, keep in mind that this course is pushing 50 years of age without ever receiving a major overhaul. Because of that, no amount of beer is ever going to turn this place into Augusta National. None the less, they work hard to keep this place playable, and the rates are very reasonable as compared to the competition.
The Club at Los Rios is one of my favorite practice courses for several reasons. For openers it’s an old Don January Course, and I grew up learning on Don January courses. They offer lots of opportunities for birdies if your game is on, but they include plenty of false angles to punish you if you get careless off the tee box, or go to sleep on your approach shots. Los Rios doesn’t have quite as many false angles as some of the old Don January courses, but it’s still ready to bite you in the butt if you don’t stay on top of it
Secondly, it represents a good value for the money, and these folks are working hard to keep it in decent condition. The greens are far from spotless, but they sport a lot less poa Anna this time of year and far fewer ball marks than most courses in this price range,. In fact, I can think of some mid-priced courses that have lesser greens than these. The old Hole #1, now Hole #10, no longer has a temporary green as that one has been saved and practically rebuilt. Hole 13, the old Hole 4, is now the latest project and is Cart path only....they are working on a large section of the fairway, and it should be back to its former glory soon.
Last but not least, a decent challenge with a good pace of play for a bargain price is very hard to come by these days. This is a great course to get your swing together, just keep in mind that there are several reasons why this remains a practice course.
One of the main reasons is that this is as an older course, and in a lot of spots the fairway grass is thin at best. Underneath some of the thin veneers of grass the earth is sticky black gumbo during wet conditions. During dry conditions, same said gumbo is notorious for becoming almost concrete like in its own hard pan fashion. This, however, is good for practice as fat shots are truly punished in the worst way. This helps me keep my flat swing flat, and out here...the cost of going steep sure ain’t cheap.
Again, the greens are in decent condition, and darned good condition for the price, but they do putt slow as molasses. I tend to like this for practice, as it forces me to follow through on my putts., and lack of follow through is my biggest putting fault.
Lastly, some of the rough mixes with the fairway. That’s not bad, save for the fact that there are some fairly scruffy bramble like weeds mixed with the rough including around some of the par 3 greens. Rough is one thing...weeds another....and brambles something different altogether....Do not end up on the backside of Hole # 16’s green. But again, these guys are working hard as is evident from the last time I was here a couple of months ago. Hopefully the brambles will be gone, and the huge hunk of Hole 13’s fairway will be back in operation soon. They did work miracles on the old #1 now labeled #10.
As a practice course...this thing is a bargain.
Great bang for your buck
First time playing this course, great bang for your buck
Great Course
The overall atmosphere of Los Rios is very welcoming, for beginners or vetetans. I would highly recommend for a fun day with friends
The Club at Los Rios
If you haven't played here in a while things have changed. The driving range has been moved and the old range location is rumored to being turned into short game track. The course is wide open so its a great track to work on your game. Also they have golf boards!
Temper your expectations and have fun
This track constantly has the best rates on GolfNow and every time I go it is below capacity and the pace of play is great. Lots of singles and twosomes and never many large groups clogging things up.
The course isn't the nicest but it is a good place to get in a round. There aren't a lot of places where you're going to lose your ball and the course is one of the easier ones to play at which can be nice.
There's a makeshift hole (13) that is there in lieu of some construction and the green doesn't hold a shot for anything.
Other than that just understand that you're playing a public course in east Plano. Don't expect a private club when you get there and you'll have a good time.
I would absolutely recommend this course for the price.
