October conditions
1st tee was being refurbished so played off the mat, 2nd and 3rd tees not in great condition however after that the course improved dramatically. Greens good for October especially after all the earlier rain in the week. Pace of play was good, got let through by a seniors 4 ball as did the group of 2 in front and the 2 behind. Sped round in 3.5 hours as a result. Great value for money, wasn’t always sure where we were going especially at the 9th however pleased overall. Would play again, despite its 6600 yards it didn’t feel that long and it was a windy old day. Worth the trip out again for sure. Too many courses these days charge a lot and the course doesn’t back it up. It was a good test of golf and even though I shot 84 gross off 16 I left plenty of shots out there
Great, but long course
I have played this course a few times and it is one of the longest I have played. Some great holes but still fairly open on most holes so not too many lost balls. In the winter this is an even tougher course because you have no run of the ball so I prefer playing when the weather is good simply because I am not that good a golfer. Nice facilities as well.
Great testing course
Love the course although very dry but understandable . Greens very good and fast . Lively testing front nine
Course management needed . . I would think before too long the fallen leaves would be a problem in finding your ball but definitely would play again and recommend
Weekly players
Course quite dry but greens very good.Nice varied course.
poor standard
Having been a member a few years ago i have moved back to the area and thought i would see how the course was shaping up with a view to re joining.
I was greeted by a group sitting in the bar no social distancing and being quite loud.
Once i sorted out my clubs i then went to the first tee box if you can call it that , there was no grass just sand .The first green was not bad but it went downhill from there very bumpy in need of water , the fairways were dry and cracked you had to just hope you got a good bounce.
I can honestly say in the 4 years since i left a few things must of changed for the worse it seems more like a public course for drinkers.
Value for money
We paid £22 per person for a Saturday afternoon round, therefore you cant really argue with that price. Fairways were dry but you cant help the weather, greens were rolling nice and true. Only negative tee boxes were thread bare and often teeing off sand. However going back to my original point, £22 for a Saturday afternoon on a good course is value for money.
Dry course, poor tees, okay greens
I hadn't played here for 40 years. The overall design has improved with nice clubhouse and friendly receptionist. The course desperately needed water. Fairway bounces was a problem albeit the greens weren't too bad. Tee boxes were terrible, dust mostly. It's a flat course needing accuracy or you pay the price especially on the par threes. I wouldn't rush back.
Great condition and tough.
Great course, great condition and good value. Tough course for a high handicap golfer but rewarding.
Thoroughly enjoyed my hack arourd.
I am fairly local and decided to play here alone on a weekday whilst off work....and I am so glad I did. Lovely course, challenging, rewarding, whilst for the time off year (mid Jan after plenty of the wet stuff) in a condition that surpasses many others. Nice friendly club house and mid way round was caught up by a eldery fella on a scooter who was kind enough to join and guide me round the remaining holes.....what a pleasure Ron was and thank you so much. Would definitely play here again and plan to suggest this club to my society.
Great condition
Played on Sunday 10th in a 3 ball at 11.30 for £20 per head which is a very competitive price for a quality course. The rain over the previous week's had softened the fairways a fair bit which made the course play longer, but it seems to drain well and we were never in casual water. Rough was not the best place to be, but that's why it's there. Greens were excellent soft and responsive and impressively true. Speed of play was only a little slow and our round was a little under 4 hours. All staff were welcoming and helpful plus all Covid precautions are made. A quality course we'll maintained with good staff, we will be playing many more games here.
First trip to this course.
Considering the recent weather I thought the course in fair condition and it played well.
Ballards Gore
Lovely course, but also tough course for a beginner. With me being reasonably new to golf, I found some holes really challenging. I will definitely be back to shoot lower however. Thoroughly recommend to try.
A great test
Very impressive course with challenges on every hole , some very long holes and the shorter ones still are a test of your abilities.
Lots of water too to keep you thinking .
One of the best challenges of golf in Essex . It is fun but you need to be playing really well from tee to green .
