Derby April 2020
Great day - layout great. Greens need a cut and rolling, front 9 especially bad, back 9 better, but having played the PGA the week before the greens on the derby need some tlc, but a very nice round
Good value
Have not played the Derby before, and it was good value at £30 for a Sunday early afternoon tee time. Nice simple course not too long. Not kept in same condition as PGA National or Brabazon by any means, more comparable with a municipal course in terms of condition of greens and fairways but it was perfect for what we wanted, a first round out for around 3 years. Course slowed around hole 10 and by hole 13 we were waiting longer and longer to play every shot so we called it a day. No fault of the course. Staff very friendly, enjoyable afternoon.
Not worth it
The greens are some of the worst I have played on. They have huge divots taken out of them. it looks like there was a disease on it and they have killed whatever it was off but all is left now is hundreds of bare patches amongst the grass on the greens. It's impossible to putt on and ruins what could be an OK course.
Good value for money
For £30 it's a decent course, but would recommend only playing in a 4 ball as it is slow
Good value for money, worth £30 of anyone’s money.
Greens poor
The greens were generally poor. Have they had some disease in the past? Otherwise the course was ok. No issues with pace of play. The price of £39 is more than you should pay for this course but we’re in different times. I understand that.
This coarse has great features
I booked on my own and got put with three chaps I’d never met to make up a 4 ball and it was a realy enjoyable game of golf on a lovely coarse, I will be coming again and telling friends about it

After finding the deal at £30plus booking fee at a steal, we were both excited to get out again and start playing golf in 2021. Arriving at the course found plenty of spaces available for parking and got ourselves ready to get checked in. Met by friendly staff at the course and had no issues getting checked in. With all the COVID-19 restrictions I thought the club had done their very best to facilitate the booking in process, clear instruction on what we needed to follow. In the van and delivered to the 1st tee on the Derby. From initial views the course seemed to be in top top shape as to be expected. Whilst playing we got caught up between several 4 balls and caused our speed of play to slow considerably. With several 4 balls ahead we were going nowhere but for the weather to be glorious we took our time. Fairways in most places were perfect but annoying that in places looked like player had forgot to replace their divots and repair pitch marks. green were running slower than I remembered but more disappointing was areas around some of the green were in poor condition. I expected these to be immaculate based on fact there hasn’t been any play on them for months. Whilst green seemed to be running true there were many patches of sand or again poorly repaired pitch marks left by other players. Bunkers that I played out of seemed to be ok, but one particular hole one bunker was still under repair. I would expect that all bunkers wouldn’t be under any repair when course hasn’t long reopened for play.
For all said still £30 per player per round to play at one of the best venues in the area was a steal. Hope to return again soon.
Chris (19 handicap)
1st round post lock down
The course was is in fair nick but the greens where patchy and dotted with sand but that said it was very enjoyable
Belfry Virgin
£30...... brilliant value!
Superb service from the course staff pre and post round.
Course itself was in excellent condition.
Greens a little ‘early season’ but ran true
Fairways and rough in superb condition.
Lovely golf course for excellent money
I’ll play again
Good to play but 10 min time interval a bit tight we were 4 ball just started followed by 2 balls, 1 allowed through got Told to hurry up didn’t appreciate this
Course very poor
The Belfry Derby Course, two of us played 01/04/2021 and the standard of the \Green's was very poor, I have stayed at the belfry and played Golf on a few occasion's and seen green's so poor? Bumpy ,filled in with sand ? the golf ball would not run true. I will not be playing there again.
The poor relation
Played on a glorious march day after a reasonably dry spell so the course was OK. It was just after lockdown restrictions were lifted and evident that Annfield work done during that period was on the other courses. The greens were slow and very patchy but it's understandable given the circumstances. The set up at the resort is superb and I look forward to returning to play one of the better courses
Out of Lockdown
The Derby is probably the poor cousin of the Brabazon and PGA. It's not a bad course, but for the green fees charged, not great value. Recommend 2 for 1 in this case.
Fantastic complex, as you'd expect from such an historical venue. Run very efficiently.
