Great course
Well worth the money paid. Club was supper helpful prior confirming conditions and the course status as we were travelling to play some distance. Although it states a dress code there isint... But was good fun nice fairways and greens... Yes wet on fairways but it's rained for the last few weeks so to be expected.
For winter golf, Fantastic!
Condition of the course was fantastic for the first weekend of February.
Unfortunately we were held up by slow play and there was a group of younger golfers playing as a 7 ball that somewhat made it loud and awkward when playing parallel holes (nothing the club can do to control this)
Tee boxes were not great, but the main tee boxes are being protected for when the season starts properly and they will be in great condition. Looking forward to coming back to play again in a couple of months.
Bird Hills
Overall a good course to play on, can often be very boggy during rainy season however, was ok on this day. It is one of the busiest pay & play course over a weekend so expect it to be a little slow.
Do not play
Played yesterday and the course is totally unplayable. Plugged and lost balls on the fairways. Huge puddles and swamps. Greens are the worst in the area by a long way
Unplayable in the wet!
I knew it might be a boggy underfoot as played here a few times but it was virtually unplayable. 1st, 2nd, 9th, 17th were like participating in a tough mudder event. Greens were also the worst I've seen them for a long time.
I know the club has to balance the books but even at £20 I feel.like I've overpaid.
Such a shame as the course itself is a great test for most handicaps.
Very Muddy
Played this course during the summer and it was fine but the winter time it gets very Muddy. I appreciate we've had some rain but it was not in great condition, divots not replaced pitch marks not repaired I don't understand why people leave it like that if you play there regularly. Will not be going back until the better weather.
A fun challenge
Second time at Bird Hills, it's an enjoyable challenge for a mid handicapper.
Forgiving off most tees, with a few strategic bunkers and water splitting some fairways to get you thinking about club selection.
Approach play needs to be accurate as it has many well placed bunkers.
Pleasantly Suprised
I must admit, I have played here once before and probably played it at its worst so I was hesitant booking another round. I went ahead anyway as I was desperate to get out. The course was in unbelievable condition and became one of the nicest courses I've played this year. Definitely worth a visit when it's in that kind of condition!
Fine with the discount
I wouldn't pay full price to play this course. Pretty plain layout. Course was in ok shape, not great.
Great Course
Golf course was in immaculate condition, great weather, great experience
Great value for money
Such good value for money (£15 each for 18 holes).
It’s a good challenge for your average golfer like me. Better standard of golfers may find it too easy.
The course was in good condition generally, although some fairways were churned up a bit where it looked like some land drains had been installed. The greens were in good condition. All in all a good course and great value for money.
One point worthy of note is that my golf watch had the first hole as the 10th. It took me a few holes to notice. I think the Golf Now app is like this too!!
SHOCKING
Welcome at the starter hut was good as it got.
The course should not currently be open. There is zero drainage on the flooded mud pooling fairways.
There was no mention on arrival booking in or signage out of courtesy that the course had a severe drainage problem not only in the rough which ok possibly understandable but all fairways with balls instantly plugged..
Thank goodness for my waterproof Footjoys.
We walked off the course without completing our round as evident it was NOT just the first couple holes affected.
I’m requesting NOWGOLF to kindly reimburse/credit.
Ropey conditions, rude staff, overpriced
Yes - it’s a public course. But for the price they charge the course conditions were awful - bunkers out of action, huge sinking mud patches, greens slow and covered in worm casts. Pace of play was very slow. And to boot the marshall in the starter hut was rude and behaved as though it was Augusta National.
A Cow's field would be in better nick
Whilst I appreciate there has been a lot of rain recently, it just seems like there has been no attempt to maintain any of it to any standard... it's almost like they couldn't afford to pay grounds keepers any more... I've played there plenty of times and it's never been this bad
flooded
course was soaking the grass hadn’t been cut for at least a couple of weeks very poor
