Birtley (Portobello) Golf Club

This is a really lovely 9 hole course. You can play it twice from different tees. It is a great course and nice friendly staff.

I’ve played here on and off for around 15 years but I have to say this year the course seems to be in really good condition. Staff were helpful on arrival. The course is ideal for people like me who possibly only get the chance to play half a dozen times per year, challenging without being overly difficult.
Good set up and for the price it’s ideal.

Was booked to play at this golf course on 9th june at 10.10am. Rang to cancel as it was pouring down and asked to move the tee time until the following week. Was told by the chairman that I couldn't unless i paid again. Don't think he was very helpfull at all and would not have been a problem at any other club. Wont be booking that course again.

I played at Birtley for the first time today. There were 2 of us and we both had a really enjoyable round. We struck it lucky with the weather as no wind or rain throughout. The course is 9 holes that you play twice but using tee boxes in different locations. Tee times are well staggered so we had no clashes or waiting around and finished within 3 hours. The course is parkland with very generous and forgiving fairways. The views are good with team valley in the distance. A club official welcomed us to the club and gave us a rundown on the course layout before we started which proved very useful. All in all a really good round of golf. We’ll be back, especially at that price!

This course requires good ball striking as anything mis-hit will likely get punished. That said it is a very enjoyable course to play with the only real criticism being that the greens played a bit slow.

Played here yesterday. Course in very good condition. It’s a 9 hole course you round twice.. Excellent value at £10. WI’ll definitely play again soon.

Quiet, cheap and in decent shape - certainly worth a look

This 9 hole course is excellent!! Came across it on Tee Off Times, 9 hole layout and hole lengths appealed to me as I’m a beginner. However golfers of all standards will love this place! Excellently maintained and in great condition, especially after a full weekend of appalling weather in the North East. Putting greens were lovely!
