Awful
Terrible conditions unplayable course
Every shot plugging
All holes open but very wet
To be expected following a rainy few days and then heavy rain overnight but it conditions were really difficult. Ball didn't bounce once that I can recall and I lost four on the fairways. I can imagine some folks would have called it unplayable. It's a great course but perhaps worth a call beforehand in wet conditions.
Needs a fortune spending on it
This golf course has good layout but unfortunately you could spend a million pound on and not know where it’s been spent that’s how much work is required on drainage some if not all the greens want ripping up and new ones laid I do like this coarse but I do wonder if the the guys who have took it on have got pockets deep enough to make it playable most of the year hopefully they will do a better job as the greens last year were shocking
Good luck guys you have your work cut out and a challenge ahead of you with this wet weather but I’ll always support you by paying and playing as should everyone else and not sneaking on the coarse after 6pm in the summer and not paying free golf does not help the guys who are running it so please pay your way and give them a fighting chance
A wet Sunday
Despite the amount of rain put down in the few days prior, the course was still open, albeit only 11 holes. The lovely lady in the booking in desk did make us aware, as well as a sign near the car park. She did also say we could go round twice if we wanted to.
I do think it was maybe too wet to open, the ground was extremely slippery and in places bordering on dangerous in my personal opinion.
That said we still enjoyed the game. A nice mix of holes, some more challenging than others. Will play again but will watch the weather forecast more closely before I book next time
Poor condition
So the facilties at stanley park aint great to start with wasnt comfrotbaly with the so called chipping area, only really a putting practice area, first two holes okay but the other 7 holes across the road jeez they wet awrful condition and the bogyness was bad! Really bad, 10th hole got better then the 11th was okay but the 12th tee off box was more like a swamp was horrendous! After that it got better but by the 14th hole i was done with the course as it got worse again! So went straight to the 18th and left!
Probably wont return anytime soon as now need new golf shoes as they are ruined fr the condition of the course! The greens were terrible aswell!
The staff were friendly enough and the other players ok the course were fine aswell but the actual course needs work.
Autumn game
This is the 3rd time ever ive played this course, 1st was May 23, 2nd was July 23 and 3rd was 13 Sept 23, i played most of my golf in Asia where i lived and worked for 30 years where the courses are very well maintained but very expensive to play, generally nothing below £100 and generally a 5 hour round
Stanley Park is laid out as well as any ive played and better than some, course drainage here isnt great on some fairways and around the tee boxes, esp the back 9 but hey, we play the course as it is, right?, this day the fairways were being mowed and the greens were a little high but none of that spoiled the game tbh, and the round cost me £13.99, cheaper than a meal and a drink in a pub!, so how can we complain for a few hours in the fresh air amongst like minded golfers enjoying ourselves getting exercise and playing on what i think is a great value for money course which tests the average golfer from the yellow tees and certainly the better players from the whites, additionally to make it fun you can hear the animals from the zoo, fortunately no one let the dogs out unlike the streets...
Decent course
Decent course just unfortunate had very slow older chaps in front of us . A 2 ball and a 4 ball in front of them. Course length made it impossible to play through.
Unchanged - same features as 35 years ago
Free flowing volume of players - was chased around by groups f Match players
Forgiving Course for a comfortable round.
We played quite early (9am) which was obviously a little too early for the green staff. Most greens were very wet and dewey until we were well into the back 9. This made the greens extremely slow. The course was in good condition, especially considering that this is a Municipal course, and very cheap. I have played the course numerous times over the years, and it is nice to see that it is still going strong.
Nice layout
Course not in great condition very poor fairways and greens drainage is there any ?very boggy and a lot of bad water soaked fairways some holes not even played as too wet so disappointed however summer months very nice course layout wouldn’t play there again when it been raining as you just can’t enjoy the round with it’s condition
A little rough around the edges
Despite a few areas where drainage works are ongoing the course represented value for money. Will go back. I have played it a few times over the years . Enjoyed it
Cut your greens.
Probably the worst greens I’ve ever putted on.
Overgrown, full of pitch marks, just terrible.
Litter everywhere, don’t be a scumbag, use the bins if you play here.
Not the best
Sadly some of the tee's and greens are in dire need of improvement. I injured myself on another course a few years ago on one of the tees. I was very wary teeing off on some them here. Even with golf spikes on I was slipping. Some greens we very poor with a couple having huge holes right next to the cup. Not one bunker had a rake in them. ( I found a bin full at the clubhouse? 70% of the course was ok its just the 30% that let the round down apart from my playing of course.
Curate's egg
We played on a warm day in August, the pace of play was good for 6 holes until we caught up the group in front, a fourball playing in a comp, slow going after that. The course was in good condition, the greens were a little slow and the tees were a little rough. There were no yardage markers, but for £15 good value for money
Good course
Good, well maintained course, greens are a bit slow.Only downside is that the drainage is very bad in certain areas.
