Trees!
Played Bondhay a few times and I find it a hard course, lots of trees and bunkers. Also water features on a few holes. I find it mainly in good condition and nice greens and it was the same today smashing condition for time of year with only 1 temp on the 1st hole.
You need good course management and straight shots to navigate to the greens or you will be playing ping pong trying to chip out from the trees! The normal price was £35 which personally I wouldn’t pay but GolfNow price £24.99 which is good. Shot my hcap today so pleased.
Great afternoon of golf
Great value for money, course was very well maintained, with some of the best fairways I have played this year. Narrow fairways with lots of bunkers scattered around makes this a firm but fair challenge. Will definitely be back.
Always great to be there
So a nice course layout. But its better to skip the driver and use fairway wood or rescue instead getting trapped in the trees :D
cu cheers
Love this course with its many differing holes & water challenges
Came across the course by accident through Golf Now. Just fancied a change from playing in Doncaster and so glad that I did!
From arrival and checking in all good- nice helpful personnel in the pro office, courteous and helpful-if needed of course.
1st hole signposted well and approached down the small hill, it has a slope to the right no matter how far you can hit it and is consequently deceptive, as with all the holes on this course- misappropriately placed bunkers lol. 2nd hole just forward from the 1st green- a Par 3 with McKenzie green- it is here you realise the signage to the next hole is practically non-existent.
Hole 3, 4 challenging par 4 with bunkers and a slight dog leg. 5 through the bush arch the first Par 5, slight twist to the left and back again slightly- avoid the trees when teeing off on both sides!
Hole 6 reasonably striaght forward up the slope, Hole 7 another par 3 straight forward. Hole 8 Par 4 long straightforward drive- not too many trees this time. Then back toward the club house a par 5 with water to negotiate- before going back up the hill.
Back to the car park and across to hole 10- a good challenge- there is a pond at the bottom of this hill which depending how far you drive is either visible or not! Drive across the pond up the hill to the green,
Hole 11 the highlight of the course- top of the hill and hit over 3 lots of water for this Par 3- good luck.
Hole 12 has around 9 or 10 bunkers in total! Then after a lack of proper markings move onto Par 5 13, reasonably straight forward and has a slight turn to the left after 1st drive shot. Hole 14 the SI1, has a dog leg to encounter & don't forget to ring the bell! Quite difficult but 15 leads onto a steady but difficult Par 3 covered with bunkers to the sides etc.
Hole 16 sees the return of the long walk home! An up down bumpy fairway with many bunkers and trees to encounter- Then onto 17 same obstacles punish wayward shots -before moving onto a long challenging Par 5 home - this also has 3 or 4 water obstacles when hitting up the hill toward the green- very tricky but a great experience.
All the greens were in tip top condition, quite fast and very level. Fairways and all the course is kept immaculately by the hard-working friendly greenkeeping staff.
The 19th was nice to enjoy after some 17500 steps walked on this course.
The driving range is OK, adequate and a nice touch the bunker practice area.
Additionally, there is a 9 hole Par3 course on this club- plenty to try and enjoy from beginners to seniors.
Pace as ever could be improved but 4 balls reign supreme lol- they are social though.
Try this course and I challenge you not to enjoy it!
Great golf course
Real test of golf course in good condition for the time of year
Another nice visit
Lovely course , very tight but if you use your head it’s a steady course to play .. got some cracking holes like 9th 10th and think it was the 11th par 3 .. pace was steady so don’t expect to do around in less than 4 hrs .. but is worth it … after round went in club house and had an all day breakfast , which was spot on … staff in clubhouse where lovely nothing to much bother .. so from start of the day booking in with young pro and finishing off in club house was a lovely experience…
Amazing!
Last played Bondhay 25 years ago when every tree was a sapling. Amazed at the maturity of the course now, it’s stunning. You need to be straight off the tee, some of the tightest fairways I’ve played. Will be back in summer. 4 stars for pace of play, but honestly it wasn’t bad - just a few times on the back 9 we were queueing three groups on a tee.
Great course
Bondhay really is a good course. It’s a tough test for players of all standards. The course has lots of variety with well placed water and bunkers. Bring your “A” game.
I’d recommend.
Good course layout, needs a lot of trees taking out to make it more enjoyable, coming out sideways for the smallest mistake is too punishing , greens were ok but very slow , bunkers were poorly maintained looks like nobody is raking them , driving range is terrible don’t bother , 7/10 not worth £25 at the moment
First time for a while
Well maintained, great layout just loads of trees so close to a fairway....no chance with the rough and you are straight into the trees, which does spoil the feeling of it all. The slightest mistake and you are coming out sideways. The bar isnt inviting and the bar staff weren't friendly but club shop guy was very helpful.
Bondhay 20/9/22
Course in excellent condition and a real challenge of golf
Take your medicine course, do nothing clever
The title of my review might seem a bit weird but it’s true, on this course you have to do exactly what it says. Bondhay is a course you can love or hate, personally I love it. Yes, it’s one of the hardest courses in the area, yes it can chew you up and spit you out, but who wants to play easy courses every week?? 8 of us played and the course was in lovely condition given the summer we’ve had. Greens were quick, fairways were back to lush and trees just as frustrating. Bondhay punishes wayward shots with tree lined fairways and great bunkering. If you creep into the trees then you have to take your medicine and chip out in whatever direction works best, which in some cases can be another fairway. Try a worldly shot through a perceived gap and you may find your ball ricocheting around into deeper problems. I always chuckle when I see bad reviews of this course as it’s absolutely certain the course has destroyed them and the review is their way of getting back. The guys in the pro shop are always welcoming and chatty, the food is excellent and the practice facilities are good. Oh and the random table and chair off the 9th is actually a sad reminder of where the halfway house used to be, not some sort of junk yard. So if you think you are a good golfer give this course a try and if you score over 30 stableford points off a genuine handicap break out the champagne, you have done well. We will be back, because we love it and because we hate it at the same time!
