Excellent value
Played this course a few times and hope to play it a few times more. A good selection of hole's with water hazardous and bunkers. Friendly and helpful staff. Good online price's
SHOULD NOT BE OPEN - PLEASE AVOID UNTIL SUMMER
Played here lots of times over the past few years and never seen the course in such bad condition, 80% of fairways were a as long as summer rough, the rough was impossible. Balls also plugged everywhere, really not sure why the course was open.
The image below is a fairway, and was the second shot.
Leave it alone till summer
Hard to be too critical as we all keep trying to play even though we know the courses are still drenched. However, this is the worst I’ve seen. The fairways were more like heavy rough and we lost many a ball in them. Several of the greens had lots of disease on them and looked more like a driving range. The walk between holes was like going through the jungle. We only saw 3 people on the course the entire round so the membership must all know better. The guy in the club shop couldn’t be any less interested in speaking to us and was already closed by the time we got half way round. Charging £15 for a round, granted relatively cheap around these parts, felt a bit of a robbery seeing as how poor the course was. We’ve played this course before and it’s certainly not Augusta but it’s in dramatically bad condition after the winter we’ve had and I’d recommend staying away for quite a while as we really struggled to get any enjoyment out of the round.
Fantastic value.
Our second time playing this course, fantastic conditions for winter every hole and green open. Not really anything I can say that’s bad about the course, we played a week earlier and the rough was a little long in places but it had been cut the following week. Very flat course which makes a nice change, will definitely be returning.
Major improvement needed
Played here a few times in previous years and won't be returning anytime soon,I can accept soft fairways and losing balls plugging but I can't accept the state of the greens just utterly poor with at least 5 having major crow damage but no signs of any work on them.Avoid playing here
Ground staff need a pat on the back to make the course open.
Staff helped us out when at the moment course.
Course should be closed
Do not pay to play this course!
The course is absolutely soaked, you are basically playing up to your shins in water.
Fairways as bad as the rough. You either lose a ball in a puddle or it plugs.
£23 to play this course is day light robbery.
We managed to play a few holes and then walked off. Asked for a refund but none forthcoming.
This course is unplayable at this time of year.
Waterlogged
The course was unbelievably wet and question whether it should have been open. We lost something like 20 balls as each drive plugged deep, as did the second shot on the longer holes. Our feet were wet through early on due to deep puddles you needed to walk through to get to the next hole . Understand that it’s difficult for the green keepers to gut the grass at this time of year, but tbe second cut was too long and another reason we lost so many balls. Have played it in summer and it’s a nice course, but I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone after so much rain.
Semi rough problem
Fairways OK. Greens OK
Semi rough a disgrace fa too long, if your ball goes off the fairway it is lost
A waste of time playing the course
The course is a little out of the way but a Gem and always has space at a very reasonable price. The greens are recovering but a little slow, but we were advised of this by the professional, It is always an enjoyable experience. Played to handicap despite mossing a few putting opportunities.
Will try play again before mid Autumn.
Great local golf course
Perfect course for new golfers to get a feel for real golf, tough course to play with plenty of obstacles.
A little disappointed
The greens were really bad and the bunkers were very compact. Patches missing from the greens. A temporary green that wasn’t well kept and was around 8ft in diameter.
If the course was looked after better I would highly recommend as it is set out well and is forgiving. However in its current condition I wouldn’t be going back
Could be great course is maintained
The greens and tee boxes were worst we’ve played this year.
Due to wet weather - fairways were left long too
Course is recovering well
I'm happy to see the course is recovering well after having some major issues , the greens are still a little scarred on a few holes and one hole has a temporary green to allow the worst affected green to recover and rightfully so
But the fairways are now cut well , the course is challenging well bunkered with a Duke that winds around the course so it's a good test of where your golf game is at
Its like playing on the moon
Ive never actually been to the moon but from my experience on putting on the green here at Boothferry i would imagine the moon surface to be of a similar contrast. The surface is crusty and crumbly with cracks and craters .
I had to turn my electric trolley on to warp speed 7 as it ploughed its way through the semi rough due to poor maintenance.
I caught a squirrel burying his nuts on the third green ( i felt like doing the same thing with mine due to the terrible experience )
The pro in the shop was also the green keeper, the bar steward , the course marshal , the cleaner.
If your playing here bring your own rake for the bunkers ( and a tonne of sand )
My wife asked me if i was going there again next Saturday but i said i would rather go shopping with her to Primark !
The beer was cheap but FLAT
Wish I didn’t have to write this……
I have visited boothferry on a few occasions but after this week I feel like I must write this review. The greens are absolutely shocking, cracks everywhere with weird stuff growing all over them. If your ball isn’t on the fairway good luck finding it. The grass cuttings need removing as they hamper the the ball when it does land and you lose yardage. I felt like I had to write this because the course has lots of potential, it’s a good course with a decent degree of difficulty but I feel the owners/management are letting it do into disrepair. Something needs to change soon or I don’t think many will return. Currently, £20 a round doesn’t sound bad but i wouldn’t pay £10 to play it.
Shocking greens
Been to Boothferry a few times but not played there for a couple of years, I really couldn't believe the greens I know it's been dry for a month but they was shocking, hardly any grass just dry cracked mud, one green even had what looked like a tree root coming through, definitely won't use again.
