Slow pace of play ruins the enjoyment of the course
It is a good course and has some challenging holes in hole number 3, 5, 15 & 16. Sadly, you are likely to get held up by slow pace of play. I was held up by 3 people in front and I had to skip holes in order to finish the round before sunset. This has happened to me before. Otherwise, I would have given this course 4 stars.
Okay course
Not the greatest course I’ve played recently. But was very cheap so didn’t expect too much. Greens were not in a great condition and the opening couple of holes don’t have the greatest layout. Another small thing- the numbered signs for each hole are tiny! So can be difficult to work out the next hole when new.
Overall: decent value for money course but I’ve olayed a lot better courses locally for the same price
What’s not to like
This is a fantastic value for money course. Not long but the change in elevations, trees and water test all levels. The pro shop welcome is always great and the club house staff are also really friendly. The ninth hole is a particular treat and I love the sign on the 5th imploring the newcomer not to take driver. Me and my son always have a great round here (although our scoring isn’t always that great). Highly recommended.
Bushey Hall during the dry season
Greens are still maintained but the fairways are all brown and very hard due to the extremely dry and hot weather currently.
Absolute Bargain
For £13 a head you can't really go wrong with Bushey.
The tee boxes are not in great nick but the rest of the course, the greens particularly, are running fast and true.
The course is a little short, you either get a really short par four or a really long one it seems. The first Par 5 is very tricky but the rest of the course is pretty open. You can get away with being fairly wayward off the tee.
Would definitely play again, it's absolutely worth the money and far superior than other courses at this price point in the area.
Good course to play
Course drains better than most courses when it rains.
Sunday afternoon warm up
Very good value for money for a Sunday afternoon, resulting in a very busy course and pace bit slow, cant complain as a 1-ball. Expect few hackers/beginners around, so patience is required.
Having said that, decent short course in the Watford area, with the usual stupid holes (3rd downhill and 5th Par 5) where powerlines are the main danger, but very exciting backtoback Par3 9th and 10th.
Not particularly challenging or long, but good practice on Parkland layout, a steal for £13 on Sunday
Just hilly enough
Lovely course, well looked after with some challenging holes. Has a great mix of flat / doglegs & hill holes.
Bushey hall
Excellent course, pace of play good, lovely greens, well looked after, challenging and very good course layout, would recommend and definitely play again
Not too shabby!!
Lovely looking course and layout (first hole has a touch of Wentworth about it) .
The course offers a challenge to everyone and there are shots to be picked up for the better Players .
Good bunkers ( and Bunkering ) means that you have to think your way around . Small negative :
At the time of writing this review - October 2017 the fairways were a bit too woolly you could loose your ball Off a straight drive....! ( which is really annoying on the few occasions you actually hit it straight)
Over all, a lovey location and a good test of golf for all standards .... well worth a trip !
Very nice course some interesting holes
First time here and am definitely coming back with friends.
The course, fairways bunkers and importantly the green were in excellent condition. A few one-putts were much appreciated. A couple of the holes would suit a left-hander especially if they can draw (left) so this makes it interesting and important to plan your shots unless you dare to hit a fade (right).
Play was a bit slow there were two fours in front of me. At the one hole they waived me through my tee shot hit a tree and dropped in the water. I was happy to amble along behind and think about how to tackle each hole.
Shop staff and Marshall especially helpful. Thoroughly enjoyed my round.
Good course
Interesting course - not too challenging
Pace of play was slow - some laggardly four balls a few holes ahead....
Greens a little woolly.
Great value
Course was in very good nick. No-one in front or behind us, got round in 3 hours 15 minutes, what a pleasure!
2 very strange holes in first 9, one with a pylon protecting the green you can't see for your second shot unless you can drive 300 yards, and a weird par 5 where you need 3 dead straight 8 irons to get to the green. More than a little quirky.
Otherwise lovely parkland course, with little sense you are close to the centre of Watford!
Better course than £15
Good value for a cheap course that is in much better condition than the price suggests. Few very dry patches on some fairways but generally fair grass coverage with bunkers and greens in great condition. No two holes are too similar and well placed water hazards on a few holes proves a welcome challenge to mostly short par 4s.
Bargains to beat the band at Bushey Hall
Nice course, beautiful greens but some fairways scalped at high points and lots of low grass areas creating bare fairway lies...but hey, what's not to like. 18 holes for £12.50. Great value and a nice course.
