Wet course
My review would have been lower if not for the friendliness of the staff. To be fair the weather had been very poor so the course was not at its best which I have tried to factor in. But on the day I was there the greens were not great. I think my expectations were quite high from the great reviews from other people. The bunkers were like a muddy sludge not great greens very wet fairways. Like I say I wasn't there on their best day
Very poor greens
Used to be a decent course but don’t know what has happened. I understand that we are just coming out of winter but the condition of the course was awful. The greens hadn’t been cut and were in shocking condition. For the green fee there are plenty better courses in the local area… won’t be returning
Calderfields
Played during winter conditions and happy to say no mats or temp holes. Course was in really good condition and pace was excellent with no slow play. Staff were very friendly and cart with food & drink available on course. This is a tough but rewarding course and I believe it is the 7th hardest course in Staffordshire with straight hitting a must. The layout can be slightly confusing on a couple of holes but staff are on hand to give directions and signs in use. It’s a tough challenge especially in the winter but overall an excellent course.
Well maintained
This is my local course but I don't play it often as I find it a bit boring! Let me explain.
Other than the 4 or 5 holes that go over the lake, most of the holes are long tree lined fairways, which is great for testing your distance of shot but not very challenging. A little disappointing as with a few extra hazards it could be an exciting course. Still worth playing though
Good course but overpriced
Course was in good condition apart from the greens which were bumpy! I thought the course was overpriced at £29.99, when you are able to play local council courses for around half of that price and that was the standard of the course. The pull trolleys were £9 each!!!
Staff were very helpful and friendly
Slow pace of play
Very slow payed for 18 holes and only played 9 3 hours for 9 holes not great
Corse conditions were terrible the trees need some work I won’t be back
Spoilt by very poor greens
Played today as a 4 ball we got stuck behind a single player in a midday tee time .I would not play here for at least a month the greens have been hollow milled but not sanded and seeded so the greens are just full of holes and are unplayable. We still had to pay full summer tee prices without warning about the condition of the greens VERY DISSATISFIED that no warning was given by the club when we booked in
First time around this course late Sept
On the whole a very nice challenging course. The greens are aerated for the winter conditions, making putting a little unpredictable. There were two days of heavy rain before I played it, but it was relatively dry. The bunkers were quite compact.
Better local courses for less green fees.
Firstly lovely summer's day, haven't played here for a while. Same problems as before, bunkers are terrible & quite a few greens were browned out. Not good value for money, lots of local courses that have lower green fees and are in better condition. Pace of play was good & overall an average place to play, what a shame. Good lay out if maintained.
Great standard
Haven’t been to the course in a while but the standard is still maintained. Even with the warm weather the greens were in as good a shape as they could be.
Everything else was to a high standard and hopefully be back soon
Course OK
Course was OK but the greens were in poor condition.
Good course. Could be even better with a bit of TLC
Good and challenging course with some narrow fairways to test those with a hook or slice. A bit of water as well, so all round a decent test.
The greens do need some work. Quite a few are patchy with no tyning or treatment evident. Some bunkers also look a bit unloved.
These would massively improve the course.
Leisure side is very good, with decent food and drink and the staff were pleasant enough.
Overall, enjoyable.
Green Keepers on Gardening Leave?
Really disappointing quality of greens, tees, fringe and bunkers oh and fairways. I think the green keepers must have been put on gardening leave. Layout of the course is fine but the overall condition was far below what it should be considering the price point of around £35. Would not play it again.
Good Course
Had an enjoyable game of golf with no issues . Would definitely play this course again.
Great Visit
Arrived earlier than tee time booked as traffic not as heavy as expected politely asked if could start early friendly gent in shop after checking that this wouldn’t inconvenience others was happy to oblige. Considering weather course in excellent condition , prior to arrival read on website that grass on greens not cut as short as normal which made them a little slower no issue suits my poor putting to be fair. Decent challenge but offers even the average golfer enough opportunity to make a decent score which made the round really enjoyable.
