Best deal in English golf

Cavendish may well be the best value-for-money green fee in England. Less than £40 (less than £30 for a twilight rate) to play one of Alister Mackenzie’s best designs - and one that has thankfully not been changed too much - is an absolute bargain.
Do not be fooled by the relatively short yardage. It certainly doesn’t feel short when you’re playing it and there’s enough interest in and around the fantastic set of greens to challenge even the best players.
Most importantly - it’s great fun!

A hidden gem.

First time I have played Cavendish, & I was very impressed by everything about the course. Not long, but tricky on a lot of holes with the sloping fairways & greens. Very picturesque scenery, & yes in places it does remind you of Augusta.

The greens were in very good condition, as was all the course. If you are anywhere near Buxton you should definitely give this lovely course a visit!

Excellent course

True golfers course, loved it. This was a treat to play and the greens are a challenge to say the least. This is a great golf course and I look forward to playing it again. Buxton would make a great holiday for anyone with both their courses being great.

A course worth travelling to and spending the day at

We travelled 65 miles to play this course having seen its 5 star reviews on GolfNow. I am glad we did as the course is absolutely lovely, some really challenging holes mixed in with some very different holes which need 5 minutes planning your approach on the tee box. A mixture of raised tee boxes, natural features such as streams and valleys, along with many holes which would be signatures on other courses. As a 9 handicapper I felt the course was challenging enough to make me want to return and play it differently next time, now I have seen how the greens are laid etc. We are planning on a 36 hole visit again soon, once the clubhouses are open again so we can sample the food and hospitality too. But, if you love a thinking course with holes where you want to take a picture on each tee, then go here and you won't be disappointed.

Outstanding

One of the most beautiful courses i have ever played. The off course amenities were sadly closed due to corona but we cant wait to go back and have a pint on the terrace when allowed! The staff were lovely.

Excellent course. Highly recommend it.

My wife and I played Cavendish and I've played it before. Excellent course which was well maintained. The greens were very true. Beautiful views of the Peak District. Lovely lady in the Pro Shop provided excellent Covid aware guidance. I would definitely recommend this course to regular players. EJM.

Very good course.

Some great holes, testing par 4 and 5s and very nice par 3s, not many flat lies here, most are very undulating fairways some that had been slit but the slits had opened up due to the record hottest May and April, they will be fine after a little rain. Nice greens.
Great views, quite hilly, electric trolley helped a lot. Very friendly staff.
Definitely recommend this course.

Lovely course

Played in a 2 ball whilst the restrictions were on, hence could not comment about the off course amenities.
Friendly reception with real clear guidance on what to do and where to go.
Greens were in great condition and loved the bumps and curves on them, would look forward to them being really fast and testing
Tee boxes were in great condition
Fairways had been slot luted and were awaiting some rain, but did not spoil the game
Lovely scenery, great friendly course
We will be returning that's for sure

Stunning course and a must

Lovely welcome at the golf shop and made welcome on arrival.
Course layout is really fantastic and the par 3s are stunning to play with a great 18th hole to finish with a great 2nd shot into the green.
Pace was very good and the course is a credit to all at cavendish.
Shot selection is also great fun with some good bunker shots to keep you thinking with some tricky putting.
Fantastic day worth the travel and will be back.
Thank you all.

Course was great but they over charged me

Course was in great condition and was a pleasure to play. When paying the green fee they over charged me and when I went back to the pro shop to ask for the money back they said the couldn’t pay me back because they didn’t no how and would sort it out the next day it’s 5 days later and still not contacting me. Very poor be careful to check what you have to pay as they are happy to over charge you.

First time playing after good reviews. course in good condition. some great short par 3s fairways good greens good undulating . Great countryside views. Only slight negative tee off ground was not the best , but to be fair we just had 3 days rain, and a bit more info , such as hole diagram on a board would help , show lay out of hole, overall well worth 30.00 will play again

Fantastic Course

Brilliant day out, course was in fantastic condition. Was pleasantly surprised at how good the course was, it is up there with one of the most enjoyable rounds I have had. The par 3’s were spectacular, with some very challenging par 4s. Overall it was an excellent golf course and one I would love to get the chance to play again.

Play this couse you will not be disappionted

We had to play on 3 temporary greens (because of frost) which did not spoil the round. The welcome in the pro shop was superb, The course layout brilliant. The overall experience was that good we intend to run a trip to the Buxton area next year and play this course twice, yes it is that good! This was the last day of October so we wondered how fast the greens will be in summer! Look forward to playing this again.

Great course that has some really challenging holes, the only negative thing was the greens had all been worked on and they were patchy. Would like to play it again, friendly staff in pro shop and the bar.

Good but a tough walking course

Played Cavendish for the first time in a mixed four ball. It was quite a hot and humid day and the course was extremely hard and fast following the prolonged dry spell. This made it quite difficult to keep control of the ball and with a number of holes having sloping fairways it made it even more difficult. There are some excellent holes and the par threes were all very good. There are a lot of tough walks from green to the next tees and a buggy or electric trolley is recommended. I would like to play it again in more normal conditions.
