Good course
The greens were a little "splotchy" in places mostly due to the season. The course is laid out in a challenging fashion and is definitely worth playing again and again.
Bad bang for the buck
I judge most courses by their greens. Their greens are in terrible shape, except for only a few holes. Also, many fairways had a lot of dirt/mud spots. Plus they are working on a couple holes, with one temp hole in play, while apparently preparing to add 9 more holes.
The hole layout is all over the place, with a lot of travel between several holes. The directions from hole to hole need improvement. Make sure you have a scorecard to follow or you'll get lost. The course is in serious transition. They appear to be building a new clubhouse, and after completing the other fixes it could become a decent track.
When a course is in this kind of shape, they shouldn't charge the same amount. They'd likely get more people to come and check it out. I doubt I'll return for quite a while.
Always enjoy playing Mill Creek
I play here often. The new management/owners are beginning to put money into the course which was devastated a few years ago by flooding. They have always struggled to maintain the greens and yesterday's conditions showed it. Very hard to putt. Said they had been over-seeded, but that was weeks ago. This will not be a high quality course until money is invested in the greens.
Course on the decline
I regularly play here and it is becoming a place I hate to play. Carts are poorly maintained, no ball washers on course, Marshall's that follows owners group around course and slows rate of play for everyone, and unfriendly staff. Owners of course play regularly and are obnoxious and rude to other players. Yelling profanity out loud across course and complaining about people playing in front of them. They need to be happy that they still have customers. Staff was busy showing off their cars in the parking lot when I finished my round. Blocking the exit from the parking lot. I feel like the course is annoyed that they have customers. Owners are rude and staff is pushy and act like their mad your at their course. It's an easy and fun course to play, I just wish the course management was better.
Still Needs Attention
I hadnt played this course in about 10 years, but remembered it to be a nice track. Apparently a few years ago a flood took out a good portion of the original 18 and a couple holes on the new 9, and they have piece mealed together the remaining 18 which can be from aweful to awesome. I got a HOT DEAL and for that it was worth it. Looks like they are doing some fantastic work on some of the holes, probably to mitigate flooding, and I imagine this will come around and be a neat little track again. Just dont think it will be too soon.
Awesome course!!
This course was great the greens were about a ten a little dry but promising
Mill creek golf course
Enjoyed the friendly staff from the moment we pulled in. They brought the cart to our vehicle and load up our clubs in the cart. The course took a beating from the past flood, but the course fairways and greens were well maintained. Enjoyed the visit and the greay course. Thanks
Great Course and Getting Better
It looks like they are starting to do some major renovations to fix issues caused by the flood a few years back.
Fun Course
This is a pretty short, fun course. They are in the process of fixing it up. I like this course because it usually isn't very crowded. Also, you usually see a bunch of deer.
Very nice area and setting
Really appreciate the improvements that they are making to the course. Definitely can tell there is a good effort going on to get the course in excellant shape.
Great staff,fun course
I have not played Golf in twenty years. Having lived in Mill Creek, a Golf Course community for four years, I thought it might be time to try it out. I had heard the course was a little run down, due to neglect from the prior owners, but it had never looked anything but beautiful to me. I was not disappointed. the course was purchased two months ago, and already major strides in the upkeep, and the aesthetics of the course in general have been made. I had a good time, even though I have not played for so long. The experience was good enough that I am contemplating taking up Golf again.
Flood damage
The course was devastated by a flood in 2010 and 9 of 27 holes were destroyed. The new mix does not flow well and much of the charm of the old flow is gone. They are trying but not there yet.
Course has New Owners!!! Yeah for the course!!
The course was really rundown by the old owner, especially after the flood that the course had recieved. The old ownership did nothing to try to get back the holes the lost.
With the new ownership group you can see dramatic improvements all over the course. The new ownership group has members that actually belong and play at the course. We have played twice in the last month and seen nothing but improvement both times. So much that we are thinkg about joining the course as members.
Nice course.
August heat was in full gear as the course was pretty but dry. Greens were very hard, but we had a good time and enjoyed the course.
Would like to see it after punched greens recover.
Played here for the first time. Found out greens had been punched earlier in the week. Greens were hard to get shots to hold on to going in, and putting was slow. Still, te rest of te course was nice. 5th hole was closed for renovation, but the alternate hole was neat.
Odd thing about the course was the layout. Some 1/2 mile treks that would have been a deal killer had my group been walking. Still, neat course with some challenging holes.
Nice layout. Staff was great!
This was a nice course for a decent price. I was a little disappointed that it didn't have a course rating or slope so it didn't apply to my handicap.
Not worth the money!
Poor signage for next tee boxes. Course was ok, very old carts.
Review of Mill Creek in Salado, Texas.
I was disappointed. It has been a while since I last played at Mill Creek. The attendant did mention that the course was altered due to damage. No mention that the course only played 17 holes (#8 was closed being rebuilt). The course appeared in not a pristine condition. And it had just rained earlier in the week.
I've always liked the lay out and because i drove in from Round Rock, I would never pay full price to play there. I don't mind the discounted price.
Thanks
Tale of two 9's
First of all, this course is about an hour north of Austin so keep that in mind when booking a tee time. The course itself was in decent shape, but the layout is very confusing, with as much as 0.5 miles in between holes and a lot of skipping around to different areas. The front nine looks like it was cobbled together on a rather small piece of land and it is not in great shape, lots of bare spots.
The back nine however is very nice and in great shape. There are some excellent elevation changes which is rare for the area. I really enjoyed the back nine, but likely won't be back to Mill Creek due to the number of other options that are closer to Austin and in better shape for the money.
Fun little course, a little pricey for a 'public' course
Using Golfnow, I got a great rate on a twilight round, but the normal pricing is pretty high compared to other public courses in the area. The course is well groomed and healthy. Greens are pretty firm, but held a well-hit ball fairly well. The course is a fun little challenge, but not overwhelming. Has some well placed bunkers and water.
