Brackenridge Park Golf Course, which is the oldest public golf course in Texas, was the first ever host to the Texas Open Golf Tournament in 1922. This historic golf course has the honor of being the first inductee into the Texas Golf Hall of Fame. Brackenridge Park may not be as challenging to today’s golfers, but it is still an entertaining round. The layout has a tight front nine with plenty of trees, demanding accurate tee shots. The back nine is more open, subjecting it to strong winds. Water comes into play on a few holes and there are also numerous doglegs and well-placed bunkers to watch out for. Elevated greens and tight fairways lined with trees add to the challenge at Brackenridge Park Golf Course.

First Time Playing

Great Layout / Oldest Public course in Texas

Enjoyed our round and it was nice to see the course in such good condition especially after only 5 days of flooding rains in the San Antonio area. Carts were off the paths and the bunkers were in good shape. Fairways were in great shape and the greens were good only because they looked like they had general maintenance a few weeks earlier. Would recommend to anyone and we will be back.

Great Bang for Your Buck

I played the front 9 with three friends and for $20 (after 5:30 i think), its definitely worth it. There was green everywhere without rocks or random dirt plus rangefinders with every cart. I was impressed.

Difficult - But Beautiful!

Well maintained for an old course. Plenty of trees to keep things interesting, and don't forget your beach ball and suntan lotion. You are going to spend some time on the beach. There is sand everywhere!

Nice try at restoration

Having played both the current and previous course, while I liked the renovation of the greens for the front side I have to say I was not impressed with the restoration effort on the back side. Due to lack of space caused by Hwy 281, some of the original design holes are far too short and appear gimmicky. Also, the normal price for the course is too much for what you get. While I am glad I got to play the restored course for a decent price, due to GolfNow, I cannot say that I will play the course again.

Well maintained public course

This is the first time I played the course and was pleasantly surprised. The course is well maintained and the greens will actually hold a shot real well. The course is short, but challenging. Shot placement is very important. I rarely used my driver. They honor both active duty and retired military with a discount. They have a players club card you can buy that gives you great discounts and 6 FREE rounds of golf. I look forward to playing again.

Sad...so sad.

After reading the course review in golf digest a few months ago I was really looking forward to playing "the old brack". What a disappointment! Fairways were barren, greens were slow and full of unprepared pitch marks. Wanted to play the back tees but they were up with the whites. The track is a classic and whoever is running this place is slapping it's heritage in the face with its upkeep.

I played this course, because of the history.

I had a 1330hr tee time. We was greeted by the starter and he was super friendly. This is a great course for beginners, but enough challenging holes for a experience golfer to enjoy. I played the course with my son and he enjoyed the layout. I would recommend this course to family and friends. The course staff was really friendly and nice.

Spring Break get away

My wife and I played the course while on a quick get away for Spring Break. We chose the course because of it's history and location near downtown. The course is just beginning to come alive with the signs of Spring and was in great condition. The fairways and bunkers are well maintained as were the the greens that rolled true, the course was very playable and I'm certain a real beauty once in full bloom. At many points on the course the downtown skyline is visible, making this the perfect place to play just a 5 minute drive fromt he Riverwalk district. We look forward to playing on future trips. We were pair with a local twosome who were very friendly and offer dining tips from a locals point of view. We took them up on their recommendations and had lunch at Mexican Manhattan, very nice more authentic meal, and breakfast the next morning at Lulu's Bakery & Cafe...chicken fried steak was very good as was the 3 lb cinnamon roll we brought home for the kids.. We reccommend the course and the dining!

This course is interesting

The course is challenging, short but narrow. Some of the holes are a little "unfair" if you will. The square greens are cool, a throwback to the old days. The course conditions are pretty good, the greens will hold a good shot. As this course ages, the new trees planted will make it really difficult.

Good course. Worth money if you can get a deal....not worth if for the full green fee price.

Course was in good condition. Greens were very nice for January. Front nine has some holes stacked on top of one another so errant shots will find their way into other fairways. Not an extremely challenging course. Only 6300 from the tips. We got a deal for $50 per person....definitely worth it for that price, but not worth the $70+ normal green fee that the course charges. Also expect a long round close to or over the 5 hour mark

Great greens,,,, best in San Antonio

This is a great course, especially for a metro course. It has a lot of golf history (former home of the winter tour), and for that reason you PAY for it. If the rate was comparable to other courses in the area this would be a MUST play often. Unfortunately it's not. There is ONE thing wrong with the course. The normal greens fee is about $20 more than it should be!
But pull out the extra twenty and play it at least once! You will have a great time.

OK

I used to play course for $25 now I have to play $50 to play and the only changes is bunkers in fairway. Not worth the money. The only thing they have going for them is their staff. Both in checking in and the starter getting us off they did a great job.

Challenging course

Course has been well maintained going into winter. Enjoyed the layout and the pace of play. Courtesy of the staff wasn't bad, but it wasn't as good I've come to expect from other courses. Great value.

great course with great history.

Very similar to the old Muni layout as I remember it, just spruced up quite a bit.

Excellent Layout; back tee not available

One of the bast layouts in San Antonio and well maintained. Back tees were not in play; rating from Blue was therefore innapropriate. Greens in excellent condition and running close to 9 Stimp. Late afternoon Super Senior 4 Ball jumped onto 10 tee as we completed the first nine and held us up for 9 holes; 3 holes were open in front of the geriatric 4 ball. This was the ONLY disappointment and the worst example of etiquette seen to date in the USA. Lack of a Starter was perhaps the problem here; or maybe a Marshall on the course would have helped.

Fairly short but interesting course with some challenging holes and nice greens

Fun course, not super long but fairly challenging because of narrow fairways and a good deal of trouble. Greens are interesting and in good shape. Negatives would be the pace of play was a bit slow (it's a muni after all) and some of the holes were a bit too close together for my liking (had someone slice a teeshot onto one of the greens we were currently putting on). Overall a fun little course though.

well kept

Nice course very well kept, sometimes too crowded and play can be slow, no driving range, very good value with golf now or with the player club.
