Mission Del Lago Municipal Golf Course
About
Mission del Lago Golf Course is nestled along the shores of Mitchell Lake across the flat lands of San Antonio’s south side. The golf course has a traditional links-style layout, meaning trees are sparse and windy, wide open spaces are abundant. The challenging golf course features more than a hundred sand traps and water hazards come into play on 10 holes. There are also multi-tiered greens, most of which are fast and undulating, and dry creek beds coming into play that require keen short game skills and careful strategy. The gusty Texas winds are probably the most challenging factor, though. Mission del Lago Golf Course is tricky, but five sets of tees give players of all skill levels a chance to play.

On The Rebound
This golf course has for too long been the red-haired stepchild of San Antonio golf courses.
The brilliant folks who built this track in 1984 forgot to install irrigation on the fairways and neglected to plant trees.
Two years ago they put in irrigation and last year hundreds of trees were planted.
This course is a sporty layout with wide fairways and tricky greens.
The cart paths are from 33 years ago and need replacing.
There are more huge Fire Ant Mounds here than any other course. Hello, Alamo Golf Trail Executives !!
The greens here are decent. The guys in the proshop, like Brian, are friendly.
They should monitor the pace of play. Several walkers were allowed to dilly dally around the
18 here. This twosome was completely uncaring that they were holding up golfers on carts.
Minor tweaks could make this place a top notch course.
Worst Course I've Seen In 3 Years
The only positive about this course was there was nobody on it so I finished in 3 hours.
Tee Boxes: C
Fairways: B
Greens: D
Rough: F--not maintained
Bunkers: C
Cart died on 18th fairway. Paid $36 with a discount and this course is a $15 track.
US Open Rough
The rough on this course is absolutely ridiculous. I lost 12 golf balls in the rough. Most drives were only a few yards off of the fairway.
There were several areas on the course where the rough was several feet high. The rough course maintenance is terrible.
Sand traps are horrible. Almost no sand in the traps. I was fortunate not to hit a shot into any of the sand traps.
I won't be playing this course again.
Fairways ok, greens horrible
Did not enjoy my experience at Mission today. Pace of play was good, the fairways are ok, but the greens are horrible. You cannot get a feel for the greens because they have not been cut and are way to grainy. A put that is supposed to break to the right can actually break to the left because of the grain. Greens need to be cut and maintained better. I'll avoid this course for awhile.
Conditions are Very Good Right Now
Overall the course is in the best shape that I have ever seen.. Plush fairways greens are rolling smooth and holding approach shots. The rough is thick due to all the recent rain so if you your drives are wayward be prepared to look for your ball. Only negative are some of the bunkers are have standing water in them.
Great time
Rainy day but course was in great shape had a blast
Comeback Course of 2014!
We play 1 of the Alamo Trail Golf Courses weekly...give the Mission staff a pat on the back for bringing this course back to one of the best public courses in south Texas, especially when you consider the reasonable green fees! I'll be back!!
Poor Service/Course Conditions
The woman in the clubhouse was extremely slow and unhelpful. Fairways are green, but 2nd cut and beyond is terrible. Greens very dry and fast. Course staff was overall unhelpful and even rude. I won't be playing this course again and wouldn't recommend it to any of my friends.
Tale of two nines
I have played this course numerous times, but this was the first time since their "Renovations". That being said, the course was still in very good shape, but it was definitely two different nines, the front nine, everything was wet, greens were soft, fairly slow and held, there were soft spots everywhere, but as soon as you make the turn, it is bone dry, the ball runs forever, and unless you hit a sky high approach shot or land it short of the green, good luck getting a hold. Additionally, the greens were lightning fast on the back so it was definitely a different approach to playing. One negative is the secondary rough, after you pass the first cut, you might as well forget finding a ball, the second cut is over 6 inches tall and thick, so any sprayed shots that roll out of the first cut, which swallows balls as well, is as good as a lost ball. Overall the course is in great shape, the staff as always were extremely helpful. Unfortunately, according to the staff, due to lack of business, the snack bar was closed, so only drinks and candy bars for any type of food.
1st time
I have played every public course in San Antonio besides mission del lago so I found a great day and I chose to go.
Course is tough.. Like cedar. Though it's not hilly very difficult fairways.
Greens are being worked on heavily and are not good at all. Beware.
Fairways good, some greens need work
I have played , this course, off and on for 20 years. Fairways better than ever, some greens are good and some are being worked on with sand. For the price paid, good value
Course was in great shape
Course was at it's best. The best I have ever seen it. My cart bogged out after the first hole but made it back to the clubhouse to get another.
getting there
Love this course but still a few more weeks to be back were it needs to be..Very Big improvement from a few months ago... I will be back
$15 nine hole rate
Greens need attention as always. There was a bit of debris on a couple of the greens, and the tees are always messy and some lack markers. The traps were almost all still holding water. Lots of mosquitos. Had a bunc of school kids walking in front of us slowing down play. The $15 dollars we paid for the 9 holes was the best thing I can think of for this outing. Thanks.
Not bad/Not great
Course fairways and greens were in good shape. Off the fairways were a little rough. Needed some attention around the cart paths. You tell the high traffic areas weren't kept up as much as they should be. Not a bad course for the money though.
Good Value
Fun course, good value. Not in perfect shape but has improved from last time played. If you end up off the fairways you will find some hard pan. Greens were in good shape.
All tee off require attention as well soho greens, as well of needs of watering on the course.
It was great for the payed vale $ 11.00 each. Also a great choices for times and days. I don't recommended this course at this time. I'll check in the summer
Greens are well kept, good value for the money
I play this course often. It is part of the Alamo City Golf Trail. The course is long but wide. One of the few courses with a water hazard that still has water here in South Texas.
Great value
Great value. Know have outside grill at turn for Hot Dogs & Hambugers. Course needs water but the greens are great and watered.
greens were great
fairways still dry and winterized, but the greens were great and the pace was smooth and comfortable.
