Farthingstowe golf
Very good course to play ,even at this time of year the fairways are in good condition and the greens are decent too. Very well laid out course ..very good value for money .
Some punishing holes
I've looked at this for a long time and decided that with the course closing for good this year, it was time to get and play it.
It's a lovely rolling parkland course; you certainly get your steps in.
It was a hard frost this morning, so the bounce was a bit unpredictable,
Recent reviews have been less than complimentary about the condition; apart from some moss on the 16th green and a few scattered molehills, nothing to complain about.
Ever played crazy golf, where the hole is at the top of an extinct volcano, perched up high? That's the 10th here, miss to the right, and it'll run 35 yards downhill into a pond!
Our round
Only booked 2 hours before tee off .very decent price for the condition of the course . All greens still playable .really if you want a course to turn up and play , I would pick this one.
Time of year, hopefully
The leave were out of control, lost 6 balls in play, some of the greens struggle for sun light through the trees and was really rough going, the road down to the course need relaying, so you know this course is extremely hilly, some blind tee shots and cambering fairways, I didn’t enjoy walking this course it’s quite hard on your ankles, maybe the course is a lot more fun in a golf kart
Excellent
Always loved this course from the first time I played it. Very underrated. The layout is magnificent. Will be sad as its sold. Will play it a few times more before it goes.
Don’t Bother
Came back to play Farthingstone as I knew it was going to close this coming winter. It’s fairly tight and has a few really interestingly laid out holes and was always worth a play if in the area.
I hoped that they were still maintaining the course… they’re not. The greens are the worst kept I’ve ever seen. Unfortunately they were bare of grass and it was like putting on bobbly dry mud.
A waste of £25, the only praise was pace of play. I got through the 18 in just over 2 and a half hours. I saw 2 other people the whole time I was there, one of which was a dog Walker. Says it all.
Sad to see the course go this way. RIP
Gone down hill
Used to be a.member years ago and was an hidden gem.
Learnt course has been sold whilst there and shuts.in december.
And my god ya can tell.never seen such poor greens.and ither areas not looked after.no money being spent atall.
Very dissapointed wont be goin back ever.unfortunatley
a gem of a golf course (once!) but now sold….
it was with great sadness when I heard that Farthingstone had recently been sold… and to become some sort of high end eco holiday lodge resort…. with no plans for the course to remain!
so I booked so as to again enjoy this golfing haven of peace and hidden gem of a golf course with a special lay-out cleverly designed to embrace the idyllic Northamptonshire countryside…
I understand that by the end of 2022, this experience will no longer be available; and it was with greatest disappointment to see the course in such a ragged, run-down state (but not blaming but fully appreciating the continuing hard work by the staff there, green-keepers and all)… a part of our green and pleasant golfing land will soon be gone!)
but I did expect the finer qualities of the course to still be there; and not having to see or negotiate (in many locations, particularly the greens!), what at times resembled an unkempt and uncared for prime real estate property…
a piece of golfing paradise tragically soon to be gone forever!
go! (soon!) take your clubs? to enjoy the walk only!
Enjoyable golf
Really nice quirky golf course- countryside setting with tight up & down fairways & water hazards… staff are friendly.. had a lovely day- definitely b back…
Great course, poorly staffed
As with any time I play, I arrived an hour before tee off to grab a coffee and maybe a bacon roll… not a chance, the one guy serving was busily preparing breakfast for a large group. So we went to check in and grab a score card, only to be told that our 2 ball was going to be joined by another 2 ball and that there was nothing we could do about it.
Maybe my opinion on the venue is tainted by my worst round for some time, but I can’t help feeling that the lack of a more familiar start, with a coffee before the 1st tee and the chance to play with the one person I chose to play with and maybe things would have been different.
This said, the two guys were really nice lads and were very patient with my brother-in-law and me, the course was in great condition, albeit not very forgiving ☹️
Good day out
Farthingstone course typically in good conditions, utilising mats from the tee box which is understandable for the time of year, however they were small mats and due to positioning sometimes meant that stance was half on and half of the mat.
Overall the course was in great condition and mats will ensure the course stays that way through the year
