Olmos Basin Golf Course
About
Located just north of downtown near the airport, Olmos Basin Golf Course is one of six municipal golf courses in San Antonio and it is also one of the city's most popular. The championship layout requires accurate drives since there are trees lining all of the narrow fairways. Numerous strategically placed bunkers come into play. There are also water hazards including natural creeks throughout the course. Olmos Basin Golf Course 's best features are the long and demanding par 3s, which are a formidable test for even skilled golfers. The golf course is quite forgiving towards beginners though and four sets of tees make it accessible to all skill levels.

hidden info
Although the coarse was in decent shape, except for the greens being sanded. I would like to know this info before making tee time. I would have selected a different coarse.
Nice Course, Lots of Traffic
Very slow play with a lot of older slower golfers. We had to wait on every tee box up to 5-6 minutes. Still, the course was easy and it played in 4 hours. The greens are painted green and rolled almost like a sidewalk with matted down grass; and they were spiked up pretty good too. Overall, it was fun and an easy track.
olmos san antonio
This course is actually one of the better public courses in town and the layout is suited for wide open drives and forgiving iron shots.. The par 3s are challenging and the greens have moderate speed. This course is always busy on the weekends and if you get a Morning tee time you may have to wait at the starters box for a bit but the course will open up after 4 or 5 holes. The locals play here alot because the course is fairly cheap to play and it always seems to be in great shape, even in the Texas Heat. A bargain muni in San Antonio no doubt.
Bob
Course in good condition. Not busy on Saturday afternoon greens excellent
the price is right
Not a bad place to play for an 18. Not in perfect condition, but very playable.
A good day of golf
My son and I played 18 holes. The course was in good condition due to recent rains. Overall it was an enjoyable experience, which has always been the case when we have played this course.i
Olmos Golf Course Review
Had an afternoon tee time
No trouble with the pay or start
Course was mowed and being watered. No problem
Rate of play was great
Our foursome had a great time and will come back again
Bad course for the money!
I book two players through Golf Now at a good rate of $25. And hour later a third player wanted to join and the course would not allow me to book through golf now for the add on. The price we paid for the add on was $42. I feel that we over paid at $25,,, The course was nasty, staff was less than friendly, the rough was long and thick, and greens were horrible, and just FYI I usually pay about $50 for a round of golf,,,,,
OLMOS BASIN
There is an abundance of garbage and debris which really denigrates the atmosphere and there is no ambience. The greens were sanded and terrible. The starter was curt and not friendly. Overall it was a poor experience and I suggest that this course not be used by golfers wanting more than just hitting balls.
Great muni
Cant beat it for the money. Other than two greens the entire course was in great shape from tee to green. Nice tree lined fairways and nice hole layouts. I was very impressed for the money paid and would love to go play again.
A Fair Municipal Course with a great location
Olmos is a very flat course. Unfortunately half of the greens were a mess with fungus or some other issue. Fairways were good. Unfortunately for us we were right behind a tournament that had some 5 somes playing.
Planes, Trains, and a Shooting Range
This old course has seen better days.
There is minimum maintenance here, the water holes and ditches are filled with junk and pond scum. No one cleans up here.
There's no Marshall on this course. You are at the mercy of any level of hacker who happens to be in front of you, and sometimes this can be a disaster.
I would avoid playing here on AM weekends.
The afternoons could be somewhat better because the traffic gets a lot lighter.
Quite a few of their green are covered with what looks like a fungus. They attempted to hide this disease by coloring it green. Now,
it's hardened into a green/grey plaque which makes the greens unplayable.
The only maintenance worker we saw set up camp on hole #11 and was completely uncaring
about golfers approaching the green. He was oblivious and was clearly channeling Carl Spackler with attitude.
This course is currently under the landing
path of San Antonio airport, and there were at least three very noisy freight trains that passed next to the fairways. There's also a skeet shooting range across Basse Road to add to the constant din here.
Golf should be an escape, not an ordeal.
Maintenance Day
I wasn't told that the greens had been recently punched and were being sanded AS WE PLAYED! Had I been told that before paying the green fee, I would have gone to another course. That being said, the fairways were in decent shape and maybe I should go back and give it another chance.
Nice course to play on a slow weekday
We happen to go at a time when they just aerated the greens but all in all, it was a good course. I will bo back one day soon.
Good value for money ONCE its cleaned up from flood.
Recent floods and heavy rains have left much debra on the course that need to be cleaned up. Sand bunkers need serous attention. Trapped water areas need to be attended to to prevent water collection in the future.
Excellent Playing Conditions
OK, so the greens had just been punched....but we knew about this and still played. Greens were difficult to read, but not too bad to putt on. The course itself is in excellent conditions
Centrally located
Nice wide fairways and large greens. The staff were welcoming and friendly. Not too rushed and a good golfing experience all around.
Very slow play with a packed course and every skill level playing. No Marshall to keep players moving.
The course was in playable condition for the time of year. Slow play severely detracted from enjoyment of the round. Inexperienced golfers repeatedly hit into our group while we were waiting on the group in front of us. Also a Lot of distracting noises from passing trains, shotgun sounding blasts nearby, and roars from a ball game in progress across the street. Not a good value for your golfing dollar.
Another very enjoyable round
We played midday on a Wednesday and were some of the only folks on the course and really enjoyed our round! This muni is well maintained and is a fairly flat course with plenty of dog legs and streams/wet ditches running through it for additional water hazards! Definitely recommend playing here!
