Great setting, course conditions not that great. Mixed review
Friendly and helpful staff. Lovely setting and I liked the undulating nature of the course. Shame the fairways were so long, basically like rough, lots of grass cuttings every where, greens in poor conditions, and tee boxes need some tlc. But for £15 probably value for money.
Good course but could be better
It was incredibly wet under foot so nothing could be done about that, and in terms of value for money it was good. However, the potential isn’t being met here:
- a putting green would be great as would better nets - the concrete ground decimated one of my pro v balls.
- signage between holes is really poor. Went to the wrong tee box several times - this is a really quick fix.
- Mat tee placement is quite poor - not in line with the green/fairway quite often.
- some fairways felt like we were in a random field - not cut to the length you’d expect a fairway to be cut to.
- greens were very bobbly but I guess can’t be helped following hollow tining.
- a lot of completely blind greens so as newbies to the course, we had no idea where we were aiming.
It has a lot of unmet potential.
took my grandson out for a game, wrong choice, course was that wet you were slipping and sliding trying to walk then spending too long looking for your ball as it plugged every time, paid for 18 holes, played 8 and walked in,this course should not have been open, very bad management from green staff at club.
Fingle glen review
Barely any grass on greens fairways 6 inches long losing balls plugging in fairway
Course
Very good welcome to the club, everybody was so friendly, even the club pro had time to have a chat about our round.
First time on this course , although being a little wet under foot. , . Credit to the greenkeepers . This course played terrific. . I loved the different contours of the fairways and greens. Very tricky on parts. Great atmosphere.
Will now be joining this club .
Nice day out but bunkers GUR
Have played this course a few times but this time was disappointed with the state of the greens and unkept bunkers. The Pro when we checked in said everything was fine, however the greens were very patchy and the bunkers almost covered in weeds, we had to treat them as GUR. The price was relatively cheap so I'd recommend at that price but I'd rather pay more and play a decent course.
Not recommended
Not recommended for anyone who opts for walking courses. Extremly hilly and incredibly steep cambers on holes 11 onwards made this one of my least favorite golf courses I have ever played. Then again, I suppose you get what you pay for. Just had much higher expectations.
Wow. Something very different
Played this course for the first time last week. Greens were rolling well. If only i could putt on them! The views were impeccable and the course was well kept considering some of the reviews i have read on here. It seems the corner has turned at that place and im really looking forward to getting back and playing again. I spoke to the club pro and he has vouchers to hand out for a free round. Worth playing just for a freebie! Would definitely play again. Even the buggies were reasonably price. See you again Fingle Glen
Wet and Windy but thoroughly enjoyable!
We ventured back to Fingle Glen on sunday and we were due to tee off at 10.10. But with the torrential down poor Fingle Glen kindly let us postpone our tee time until 11.30. We managed to avoid most of the rain however did get caught in one almighty down poor! Considering the amount of rain we had the course held up surprisingly well! we even had a buggy! This is the third time i have been back in the last three weeks and the course is improving every time i play it. Im excited to keep playing this place through winter and feel come the start of next season it will be a real gem! get down and give it a go guys.
Massive Improvements!
Played Fingle again on Sunday and must say the course is in fantastic condition compared to where it was 8 weeks ago. Greens were more than playable, fairways were cut short and rough was just cut down far enough to be able to find our balls.
Would highly recommend playing for £20!! will be going back again this weekend
Worst course I've played.
The course is in absolutely dire condition. I gave up putting after 2 holes as it was pointless with the state of greens. Grass growing in the bunkers, greens shocking, practice area has been left to ruin. £30 a round is daylight robbery for this standard of course.
Potential
Booked for my lad and I to have a round of 18 holes. Then I read the reviews and feared the worst. Upon arrival the entrance from the road is fresh and notable ground works to the right (was informed during my visit this was the original 1st hole but now making way for holiday lodges, whilst the old driving range has been replaced with a difficult par 3 18th hole). The club house/bar/restaurant/hotel is of a decent standard with staff so pleasant I felt like I'd been there many a times before. Practice area to warm up is poor, with a couple of net bays and badly kept putting/chipping green to use.
Being our first time on the course, most holes felt more difficult than they should purely down to having to play blind shots over hills, round bends and hidden greens, but overall we felt the course was reasonable. Some tee areas and all the greens are in need of grounds maintenance to say the least, but found fairways, bunkers and other elements of the course acceptable. Some absolute cracking holes to play and enjoy, and with some dedication , time and focus on the general up keep of the course (greens in particular) this has the potential to be a top golf course and would justify a higher green fee. However, as it is at the moment, for £15 a round, it's value for money and knowing what I know now, I'd still go back and play again.
Fun round
Had a a terrible round, but that's on me. Course was good, some challenging holes, most of which hilly, we walked 18 which got our steps in for the day. The greens have clearly taken a beating from the recent sunshine, so are in a bit of a poor state, but previous visits let me know that isn't the norm. Staff are always great too! Would and do recommend
Dongle Glen Review
Very good day. Course was quiet and conditions were perfect.
Bring all of your breakfast balls!
Me and two friends came to this course initially and it was following torrential rain to which the club accommodated us another round which thankfully was on a much sunnier and drier day.
Shame they moved the first hole to a trickier second hole and overall the course is very challenging. But the course upkeep for us was unfortunately very poor, especially on the back nine.
Me and my friends lost roughly 30-40 balls with the majority lost in open play due to there being a lot of grass cuttings across the course. What was meant to be short rough played like heavy rough and hole 16 was unplayable.
The clubhouse is excellent and its log cabins look lovely, but as a course, I feel the attention for more cabins and better club house has taken away from the golf course upkeep.
Sorry.
Why is it in such terrible condition.
Greens are dead.
Losing balls in middle of the fairway due to cut/long grass.
The worst course I’ve played and I have played some very bad courses
You know a course is bad when you can’t find your ball in the centre of the fairway because the grass is too long. The course layout was questionable but not the worse but no holes that would be considered good. Two par 4 didn’t even have fairways so yh , don’t play there, it’s not worth it
