Wetwetwet
Course with all the rain it’s understandable the green keepers have not been able to do anything.have to mention not being told about 11 hole not easy to find! Enjoyed the course like to come back in better conditions
Wet wet wet
Weather has not helped the green keepers it’s been raining forever. So it’s not right to review the course .we enjoyed the not told about 11 hole lot of confusion were it starts or were the tee is would help if it was mentioned all in all good day out sorry about the rain.
Gloucester Wet Day
Greens were good, a few more directional arrows would help!!
Friendly members and staff.
Course in very good condition.
Another fine day golfing
Started with a coffee then driving range with tracker system very nice , tee off on time no one in front always a bonus, for this time of year course was lovely first 9 holes flat , started to rain on 9th so went in for a coffee, 15 minutes later back out rain stopped, still no one on 10th or in sight back nine hard going up hills but lovely greens slow and couple of temps can be a walk between tee’s , nice day all in all, after had pint and toasted sandwich, can’t wait to come back in the summer should imagine Green would be fast , cracking day
Really poor nine holes on temporary greens if you could call them that ,basically a hole in the fairway no attempt to make a temporary green booked on golfnow for £20
Total rip off ,the pro in the shop needs to let people know before of the condition of the course rather than just take your money, or drop the price if we had known there would of been so many greens out of action wouldn’t of played there
Welcoming
I was expecting a soggy round of golf after the onslaught of rain the previous week however the course played surprisingly well, even on the lower, wetter front nine.
We were greeted with a warm welcome in the pro shop and again in the clubhouse.
Even my cantankerous playing partner noticed this at the time which could account for his rare straight tee shot on the first !
Keep it up Gloucester golf club!
3 ball on a Monday
Playing off mats and soggy ground was a challenge, but that's winter golf. Will be returning in the summer as the course is beautifully laid out.
Was very impressed by the welcome we received from the staff, a credit to the golf course.
Golf
Lovely course, work being done on the one hole but the view on the 18 is great!👍🏻
Soft greens, rolling hills
First tee sets the scene with the fairway sloping right to left. Positional play is important on most if not all tee shots due to the slopes. The course was firm with a lot of roll after a drought across Europe. The last few weeks of rain had helped in restoring the fairways and surrounding trees and hills back to green.
The greens held the ball well, allowing checking and back spin. This helped on two of the par 3’s being over 200 yards. Putting speed changed noticeably Slower on the front 9 and faster on the back.
Staff and players were friendly. Calling out to play through.
The driving range isn’t long with the furthest distance marker 200 yards. Although it looked like another 50 yards of space beyond. Two tiers. The upper level mats quite well used. The lower tier, the mats like new. The range balls were a mixed bag and really felt and flew like range balls.
Bring your own bottle of water as there were no obvious water stops on the course. There may have been. I just didn’t see any. The 9th green and 20th tee are a short walk from the clubhouse and easy enough to refill there.
The 11th tee is a longish walk through the woods and from there on a number of tees play uphill. Expect a reasonable walk. You don’t need to be fit but don’t expect a gentle stroll.
This sets up for two beautiful par 4’s with commanding views of the downhill fairways. The final 18th hole is a par 4 and a well placed tee shot is rewarded with a putt for eagle.
Food was limited but tasty and served quickly.
Playing again later this week. Would return multiple turns if I lived in the area.
Course layout
Course was excellent. The layout is very hilly and there are some long walks from green to next tee. Would advise to hire a buggy.
Tree shade.. wonderful
I play up Cleevehill normally because I like the workout. Have played here 5 years ago and the layout has changed a bit. A few shortened holes has made this course a bit more fun!
The shadows of the trees are great for when it is really sunny. The greens were fabulous conditions and not cut too short.
They've made some of the par fours more getable for an average player too
A challange if playing for first time
Bearing in mind the very dry conditions the slopes on a good number of holes would turn a good drive or shot into a poor result as a first time visitor so very challenging . With course knowledge maybe not so much a problem .
