Good course for the money.
Good course to play. Somewhat open on the front, but very tight on the back. One of the best finishing holes in the area.
Bert and Ernie
Great conditions for the heat of summer. Were watering when we arrived. Best conditions Ive seen this course in. Very friendly office folks. Great prices for golf and accessories.
We'll Be Back!!
I had heard and read great reviews on the San Saba River course. My golf buddies and I are always looking for new courses to add to our "Rota", and will typically play within a 100 mile radius.
This was one of the best, and most unusual, golfing experiences ever! The staff was welcoming and courteous, and treated us like old friends! While checking in, we were informed that they did not sell beer, and encouraged to bring our own the next time we came to play. We were also encouraged to make use of their pavilion to cook out when we finished playing!
The course has a nice layout, and some challenging holes. The front 9 has some pretty generous fairways, but the back 9 is pretty tight. While there are no bunkers, the course protects itself with some well placed trees, doglegs, a few water hazards, and surprising length on some holes. The fairways were very well maintained, and the greens were in great shape, and rolled true.
All in all, a great value, and a great golf experience! We will definitely be coming back to play here, and are already looking forward to it! If you decide not to cookout after golf, head into town and treat yourself to lunch at "Pepper Belly". A unique name for a Tex-Mex restaurant, but great service and great food! Best Quesadillas....ever!
Quiet Country Fun
The friendliest staff ever. Great course to take your wife. Pack a picnic lunch and enjoy the country. No need to take sand wedge. Number 18 is all the par 5 you could ever want. Good luck.
Great layout around large pecan trees that line the fairways
It's good great wonderful awesome cool fun delightful etc
Great value
San Saba is very nice, right by the river. We played in 2 hours flat, Mike shot 76, me about 90. Staff great, lots of leaves as the course sits in a pecan grove. Back nine I think has a little more character. Well worth the drive.
Successful day!
We played our 2nd annual family golf tournament here, just a quick Texas scramble between two teams. Hannah was very friendly and the course was challenging enough for the various level of players we had in our groups. We're from out of town and we will be back as long as we have family in the area.
Hidden Gem
Great course out in the country, I only wish I'd have known this was out here sooner since we come in to visit with family a few times a year. Second time I've played the course. Ralph in the pro shop was friendly and got us on our way to a great day of fun and golf.
Great course and value
My only complaint is that there's no drinking water available on the course. Bring your own or buy it in the clubhouse.
Different
I never play a course like this, it has NO BUNKERS. Buy the greens are small, which makes this course a little harder.
San Saba, good bargin
San Saba is a good bargain - good muni course. Lots of trees and water. No sand traps.
If you are lucky you can get the hot deal from Golfnow and pay $15 per person including fees.
Great price
Great price for your money. Staff was very helpful. Will play here again
San Saba
This was the second time at this course and it lived up to our expectations, challenging and the condition for this time of year was really good. you have to play out of the fairways and think about shot placement
San Saba Fun!
Great old time course. All kinds of shots needed. Relaxed pace.
Pleasant Surprise
While this was a little hike but worth the trip. Although I found the trees a little tight on the back nine but still a fun play. The 18th is all any player could want in a finishing hole - big water carry on 2nd or 3rd shot... Don't missing going into town and dine at Pepperbelly TexMex Diner...
Great greens and challenging course
Nice course and the greens were in great shape. Worth the drive from Waco.
Fun Course
The back 9 was the original course. Beautiful trees and the river runs through the back 9. Make sure you hit it straight. Very pretty and challenging as well. Front 9 is wide open and with the excepton of a couple of holes it is fairly easy. Definately a fun course worth playing at least a couple of times.
A Hidden Gem
I first played this course in the 1980's and have played it 1-4 times a year since - it's an 80 mile drive one way. April 2014 was my first play since the summer of 2013. It has had its UPS and DOWNS, but right now, it is UP. New PGA Pro, Chuck Jennings seems to have the place humming along, neat, tidy, trimmed and green. The many trees have been pruned nicely. Sand bunkers have largely, if not entirely, been replaced with rough-like grass. For my game, that is a big help. The sand bunkers there were always hard and bare. There was a High School Tourney practice round going on with teams from all over when we played last week, but Chuck put our twosome out on time so we could finish in 4 hours. We would have loved to stay for 9 more, but had to drive home to Georgetown. San Saba is a very nice, friendly little town, however, it's not on the way to anywhere so you must go there on purpose. I love to go there and always have - even when it was in lesser condition than now. In summary, I doubt you will find a better 18 hole layout anywhere for the same green fee. It is a real bargain. Two completely different 9's - the old original thru the Pecan River Bottom and the newer 9 out in the mostly open plain. (Please don't tell anyone so it won't get crowded)
GREAT COURSE
Great staff and great course you can't go wrong playing here!
