Least enjoyable round of golf I’ve ever played

Pace of play was an abysmal, 2 hours 30 minutes for 9 holes. Caught the group up in front at least 3 times and still not let through even though there was gaps to let us go. Was mentioned at club shop after 9 was was shrugged off. One of our 3 ball actually stopped playing and left due to having to wait at least 10/15 after every shot which ruined the full round completely. Even when we then was a 2 ball and caught them up again wasn’t waved to play through, and was on the same tee box as them 3/4 times again.

Unbelievable course and layout, definitely one of the best around but that’s ruined playing again

Friendly Pro

I forgot to ring ahead and check whether trollies were allowed due to the recent rain. So rocked up with a full set and large trolley bag.
Thankfully there’s a really friendly golf pro who saved my round by handing me a brand new carry bag.
Thank you it was much appreciated.
The course was great too.

Not one for outside of Summer

We played Hessle Golf Club yesterday at 11.48 and I'd received a voicemail an hour before outlining no trolleys unless medical certificates and that temporary greens were in play. Unfortunately one of the party was travelling from Halifax so was already on the way.

We played the first 6 holes before torrential rain called us off.

Unfortunately even before the rain the temporary greens were really poor and weren't even cut. The course was really boggy underfoot and probably should have been closed.

We've played there before, so we can appreciate the quality of the course in peak season but unfortunately we had a really poor experience today with the exception of the clubhouse and the staff. Otherwise, it was sadly a wasted visit.

barely playable

Pro shop weren't aware visitors couldn't book a round at Hessle online on own website and haven't been able to for several years. Realised when shown and now probably realising thousands in lost revenue. Bargain on a hot deal but course borderline playable. So many buggy tyre marks everywhere churning unnecessarily poached areas even worse. All temp greens except they were just flags in fairways and just boggy to putt on. Shame, wouldn't return for several weeks until fit.

Don’t bother booking

Turned up to find the golf course closed. No prior courtesy call like other courses do to inform me. Staff weren’t helpful who were there to help sort a refund out. Won’t bother booking here again

It’s so good…

I think I want to join it! Love the nice big greens and consistency from hole to hole. The layout presents plenty of challenges to us amateurs. If it wasn’t for the time of year (autumn) I only lost one ball of he entire round that was slightly off the fairway but a few leaves around.

Very impressive and friendly course with both the driving range and practice areas close to the clubhouse and 1st tee. The club got in touch to let us know about the conditions and status prior to arriving via text which I thought was a nice touch.

Kudos!

A testing course

Considering the hot summer we've had the course was in really good shape... In fact amazed how green it was. The green were lush green, very thick grass which made them abit slow compared to other course I've played over the summer. Alot of narrow fairways with plenty of trees to test the long hitter, plenty of dog legs and short par 5's. Well worth a visit....
