Lovely course, will return in summer !

What a lovely course which wasn’t even spoilt by having to use a mat. Some really tight but aesthetically pleasing lay outs with interesting tee positions. Just a pity about no catering to buy and scruffy clubhouse area. Pro was really helpful and pleasant. Was an absolute bargain for £15.

The Northern Secret

Hillsborough. What can i say? To start the 1st is a real test up the hill. Its OOB on the left but a long way to the green. Right, youve masred that lets get to the 2nd. Its ony about 125 yards off the tee but you have the wind above the trees and the green is a nigjtmare as it slopes back to front and everything seems to roll off. The 3rd is the hardest on the course and you soon realise why its straight but very tight. OOB on the left and trees on the right.
The grees have recently been ironed and are like lightning. The whole course is in really good condition and its a compliment to the green staff.
After the golf its time for a pint and a bite to eat. The clubhouse is going through a bit of an uplift but it is still offers a warm and friendly plave to be. The food was good and great balue for money.
You reall must give this a go.

Challenging, well laid out course

Course was really well laid out and was in excellent condition. Really enjoyed my day, despite not playing particularly well. Also got a friendly welcome in the club bar.

A hidden gem

was getting nervous as to where the satnav was taking us but was pleasantly suprised when we arrived at the course.

Golf pro was very friendly and courteous and allowed us to tee off early as the course was fairly quiet. A long slog up the 1st into the wind, but thereafter the course offered some interesting and challenging holes. Great views over the surrounding countryside, when you cross the road to play 2 holes (4th & 5th)

Unfortunately at this point we had caught up on a 4 ball group in front(also visitors). Despite the fact that we were only a 2 ball and we were constantly waiting to play our shots, they never showed any etiquette, to allow us through.

This spoilt our enjoyment of the round on the day, but I wouldn't let it put me off returning to play again

Hillsborough Golf course

We enjoyed a good round on a first class course in great condition given recent weather conditions and afterwards a nice bite to eat.

Perfect weather
Walked

Autumnal weather. Quite a tight course and greens in good condition despite recent wet weather. Caught out by slightly slower greens in shaded spots probably due to lack of wind drying out the course

Great greens, Slow play

Overall the course was in very good condition the greens were a highlight. Unfortunately we got behind 6 non golfers who were visitors with zero thought for anyone behind them. We complained to the pro and he offered us 50% discount on our next visit, I understand this is not entirely the clubs fault but maybe handicap limits would help.
This however has not put me off visiting again as we enjoyed the course.

Nice course

Hillsborough is a nice course which I played at the wrong time. They are obviously conditioning the greens with the large amount of sand on them so the greens are a bit poor. The fairways, tee boxes etc are all very good however, it plays very well with some easy and difficult holes. I would recommend playing there and if I stay in this area consider becoming a member. Also the staff are very welcoming and informative.

Great course

Really good course. Good variety of holes in rural setting. Tight in places but not overly so and plenty of fairway to aim at. Greens fast and true, only slight issue was that greens had been spiked and sanded but only to be expected at this time of year. Recommend this course and a steal at price we paid.

All fur coat

My playing partners and I have played this course several times between us and I can honestly say its been nothing but poor.

The biggest problem with the club is it's arrogant, rude and big time Charlie memebers that have a total disregard for other players (non memebers)
It looks like memebers can just do what they want when playing a round, basic course rules are overlooked and the speed of play can only be compared to the pace of a giant Galapagos tortoise. Before you google it, that's 0.3 mph.

Such a shame this course is like this, as it's my local course and I along with 3 of my playing partners have been considering becoming memebers. This experience has put the final nail in the coffin and just like the members I won't be in a rush....... to return.

Poor set up

After arriving 30 minutes before our tee time we were made to wait over an hour due to a comp being on. This meant we could only play 15 holes after literally running round. A little poor
