Good course bad weather
The course was decent and staff friendly. Really the conditions were down to a lot of wet weather so very boggy under foot. I’m sure I will get another round in when the weather’s a bit dryer.
Good condition course as Ever
Playing really well even in December so we'll done to all green keeping staff. Fairways as good as ever but unfortunately due to some people not repairing, the greens had too many divot and uneven in places. Will play the course regularly especially when there's more daylight. Well done Ilford gc.
Good and bad
The access path to the course was horribly rutted and muddy. Something quite easy to fix so people can actually get onto the course. The layout is awful, in my opinion. Too many crossing holes and excess walking. Having to walk 150-200 yards to get from green to next tee, walking through other fairways on nearly on the greens and crossing over a massive hill/river really detract from the experience. I have never seen a flag that’s 15ft tall, which you still couldn’t see from the fairway trying to cross the hill/river again. I can imagine that this course is probably in great condition in the summer but the grass hasn’t been cut for a while along the edges and normally easy to find balls that might have been in the second cut were lost or in leaves. Unfortunately, given their summer pricing I won’t be back. The value just isn’t there when comparing other offerings in the region.
First and Last
As title suggests and the ratings given. I for one will not be going back nor booking a round at ilford again.
Poor course layout, poor hole layout, poor signage of holes, greens and tee boxes too close to each other and continually had to wait for group in front of us teeing off from next hole and then walking along out fairway which slowed down pace of play and caused a knock on effect. No staff to be found, no bar or changing facilities and the still charge £30 per round. Wow......... I wish Ilford golf club well.
Much better than expected!
Ilford was a quirky but highly enjoyable round. The clubhouse is non-existent but it looks like a swanky new one is being built right now. The course is reached by walking over a footbridge over a busy dual carriageway, not an auspicious start to a relaxing round. However, as soon as you have crossed over you are confronted by a lovely golf course.
Conditions were absolutely excellent, with the fairways and greens in top condition. The latter were not particularly fast but ran true and featured some really brutal pin positions (the main defence of the course imho). Ilford isn't a long course so the bunkering and pin positions seem designed to combat those seeking to overpower the many short par fours.
The first few holes are quite interesting, with doglegs and water in play. There are then a few fairly straightforward long-ish tree lined holes. These would initially appear quite boring but the trees are tall and an errant tee shot will be suitably punished.
There are several really enjoyable par threes but, due to the short length of the course, not many par fives. The course itself is a par 68 but all of our group thought it a highly enjoyable round and a decent test of our games.
I can't wait to play it again, especially if the condition stays as good as it is right now.
Ilford Golf Course
Although the clubhouse was being rebuilt and I didn’t realise you had to walk over the north circular it was very well signposted and was able to find the club with ease. You walk past the 6th tee box to get to the first but that was signposted as well and the scorecards were in a small letter box style holder. Played my round in good time with good challenges for novice players like myself. The greens keepers were very friendly and informative and had a chat with a couple people along the way. Very good valued course and I will be returning
Great little course, well looked after.
Not played here in 25 years - but thought I’d play Ilford post lockdown. Greens were great, other golfers were all friendly - ground staff were helpful and attentive when asking about the course.
Car park was busy, and the new club house construction means sharing space with all the building materials and people working on the site. Most things are self intuitive. Course does play a bit short - and a fair few holes overlap, so you need to be conscious of other players whereabouts when teeing off. Really enjoyable round - and that was in pouring rain. Would definitely play again.
Lovely little course
This is a lovely little course. It's completely flat, no major hills to speak of. At the time we played the club house was closed and looked to be getting refurbished. We would happily play there again.
Very short and lots of cross overs but ok
Very short course but lots of cross overs. Put your driver and Even 3 wood away.
