Another great day at Kington
We try to play here once a month, stunning views today and a strong wind that added a degree of difficulty. Ferns have been cut back so a little so easier to find errant drives, greens quick and rarely flat, local knowledge definitely a bonus. Clubhouse and pro shop always welcoming and friendly. Good food and drink selection with a great view of the 18th, a par 4 that is driveable if you can get the right landing point(did it for the first time today but then 3 putted...). We'll be back soon.
TGIF Golf Boys outing
The course was in excellent condition, greens fast and true, fairways well drained and tidy good signage and the weather was kind. An 8mph wind was pleasant and kept you cool at the top of the hill whilst the sun was in full force, lots of interesting holes which you had to plot your way around. The gorse and ferns were well manicured but if your ball went into them was impossible to find which was understandable. The burns around the greens was a good feature and the absence of sand was a relief, the undulating fairways did prove hard to negotiate if you had electric trolleys but again was a feature of the course. The clubhouse was well stocked, the staff and members friendly. The cost was excellent value for money.
A challenge!
Amazing views. I play off 12 and found the course a real test. Some fairways have significant slopes and a couple of times I hit what I thought were good drives only to find my ball had rolled off the fairway. Line of drive is therefore a major consideration. A high handicapper would probably run out of balls! There are no first or second cuts. Fairways run straight to gorse so if you leave the fairway you cannot find your ball. Very few trees at this height and no bunkers. Instead there are sworls next to most greens so you need to be very skilled with a lob wedge to make par. Greens were in excellent condition. This course is well worth a visit. It is unlike any other course I have played. The 18th signature hole (276 yards) is a beauty - playing down a steep hill from a plateau against a huge left to right slope. With some luck I hit the perfect line and watched my ball take a huge swing down a very steep hill coming to rest on the sill of the green. My push chip onto the green gave me the first eagle of my life. What a way to finish!
Kington
Interesting course. No rough and not too long. Breezy! Back to basics golf. Avoid the bracken. Greens fantastic.
All staff and members very friendly, sadly foggy on are trip so will have to go again to take in the views..
Very Lucky
Going to be honest is closest course to where I live however considering rain Herefordshire has had Kington is still in great condition.
You will not find a dryer course around and the greens where ridiculously good for December.
If you visit Herefordshire for golf Kington is an absolute must.
I have played Kington several times, always have a good welcome. Unfortunately the weather was atrocious in the middle of the round. Great value for money nevertheless!
Unique
Excellent course with views you're not gonna forget in a hurry. A true unique experince
Very enjoyable experience
A great welcome in the pro shop and in the clubhouse. A cool windy day and not having played the course before we struggled at times to get the right line off the tee.
We followed 2 members so this helped but at the 9th the pace of play slowed to a crawl as we caught up the last 4 ball in the ladies friendly match, ( We had been warned in the pro shop about the match and had delayed our start because of this).
The final 9 holes was played at a snail's pace but it gave us the opportunity to enjoy the stunning views.
A great welcome back in the clubhouse and a superb pint of bitter.
Links course in the sky!!
Super day totally different type of golf. Every golfer should experience it.
Great views difficult fairways
A good day for the money. Great greens and ground staff some fairways rather difficult with a trolley as very undulating and hard.
Overall would go back with friends for the experience but not for a while
Stunning course & even better views!
What a lovely treasure. We were expecting a novelty round on the highest 18 holes in England & had low expectations of the course itself but the greens & fairways were fabulous topped with amazing views!
Incredible views!!!
Lovely course and worth a day out for the money. Terrain was different but enjoyable. Greens were fast but reacted to ball well. Very slow game but I was on my own with a buggy and we had the best weather of the year. Members were friendly as gave tips on how to play each hole
