Difficult golf course
It’s a difficult golf course
Much water in many holes
This can be challenging if your golf level is high
Price is Right
The course is a wonderful 18 challenging holes and was generally in good shape. Cart paths are cracked and uneven, but so is every other mature course in this area with oak tree roots spreading out under cart paths and fairways. Negatives: Trash cans throughout the course were overflowing and hadn’t been emptied in days. Golf carts were filthy and full of tobacco cans, wrappers and dirt. Skeleton staff was working hard, but not enough bar staff was on hand to keep up with demand. Starter was very helpful and friendly. Interior of clubhouse is dated, worn, and in need of updating. Glass cupola above the beautiful Christmas Tree is covered in cobwebs and dirt.
No carts
We had a 115pm tee time. On arrival at 1245, there were no carts available. And the 3 groups in front of us had no carts. We finally got a cart that was out of juice at 200pm. We barely finished our round because the no one was monitoring pace of play.
On top of that, the actually grounds and fairways were not taken care of very well. I ve played here several times but this was by far the worst.
Too crowded.
We had to wait for a cart just to get started. When we arrived at the first tee there were two groups stacked up waiting. We played 5 holes in 2 hours. Painfully slow. Whoever is scheduling the tee times is failing. The price is good on golfnow, but it’s still not worth it when you can’t finish 9 holes.
Amenities lacking, dry and hard
No water stations and no cart girl, bar at clubhouse lacking food variety. Fairways were very hard. Lots of water on this course. Greens were ok.
Bumpy
First time playing Greatwood in a month and what jumps out at me is the condition of the greens. Very bumpy. If they can, the greens crew needs to roll them. Fairways are also bumpy but I can live with it.
Very little roll on the fairways. Area courses continue to recover from one of the worst droughts since 2011. I do like the layout…quite interesting and challenging. Especially the finishing two holes. Hole number 10 remains a personal puzzle…getting across in two for a 73 year old is quite the challenge. I almost made it this time.
