Nice course after hole 5. Very slow play.
The first 5 holes are up and back, up and back. After the 5th, the course opens up nicely and has some real highlights. It was in good condition despite heavy rain the night before. BUT, the pace of play was crazy slow, with a queue of fourballs who were unrushed. I’d like to play there again, but there are better and cheaper options that don’t take 5 hours.
Natural contours make for a complete challenge
First time playing 'Cobble Hall'. Despite the rain, the fairways were firm and a good tee shot was rewarded....however there were too few in our game. The course is framed by nature trees and combined with a long first cut penalise wayward shots. The deep rise and fall of the later holes present an unusual challenge and knowing how to play different lies is a must. Greens had recently been aerated so there was an occasional bobble on putts, which didn't detract from our appreciation of some fine McAlistair designed greens. Beyond the first half dozen pipe openers, the holes are varied and in particular a couple of steep uphill greens are a test. The final three holes offer a chance to bolster the stableford score but only if you play them well!
Clubhouse hospitality was good, considering current restrictions. Hope to return again next Spring.
The First Mackenzie is an immaculate beaut!
Is it possible to play an historically important and beautiful course for as little as £20? The answer in Leeds, is yes! Leeds Golf Club is steeped in golfing history as Dr Alister Mackenzie's first outing as course designer. It is a beautiful thing to behold. The weather was breathtaking as well but that does not downplay the special feeling of this course. With wonderfully mature tree-lined, mainly sloping fairways, keeping it in the middle is sometimes a challenge but that is part of the fun. After a few 'loosener' holes the course gets going on the lovely little par 3, 6th but the really important hole is the 7th, which was Mackenzie's first ever designed hole. Its a classic of his design with a two tier green and slope off to the side with two guarding bunkers. Playing downhill it is a beautiful hole to admire from the tee. The rest of the course is a wonderful mix of up and downs, including the often card-wrecking par 3,15th, a longish uphill hole between a chute of trees. The course was in immaculate condition. The greens whilst not too fast had bags of roll on them and were very true. The bunkers were in brilliant order - full of fluffy sand. All in all a very special round. I will definitely return.
Leeds Golf course
Pro shop pleasant and welcoming! Alway a good start to the day!!
First 4 holes up and down rather featureless!
Greens great condition some fast but good pace alround ! Narrow fairways but some great golfing challenges, a few hidden Greens that forces you to play brave!! Thoroughly enjoyable great balcony views and bar !!
Idilic course in set a beautiful part of leeds. (Slow play when busy the only criticism).
Too Slow
The course itself is really nice however the day was essentially ruined by the pace of play. We were stood waiting on every tee for a group of 4 in front of us to play. There were also people in front of them and people behind us, wasn’t enjoyable. Would like to play the course again if it was quieter but won’t be rushing back.
Great course
I would normally expect a water feature at courses of this standard but this doesn’t have one. However it makes up for it with fantastic north leeds woodland.
Excellent September morning,
I can highly recommend Leeds golf club,it is a fantastic course, upon arrival the member of staff was very friendly and helpful, the course itself was in very good condition, the greens still had some evidence of top dressing been applied, but that didn't affect the speed of the greens, right from the first tee to the 18th green the course is in top condition,we will definitely be making several return visits,
Course lay out great
Fairways wide green in good nick overall great day out would play again no problem
Welcome from the start
Great staff from clubhouse to on the course green keepers.
Lucky enough to meet the Captain and have an interesting chat about the club and its prospects for the future.
The weather was a mixed bag as always here in the UK but the friendly members who were having a white tee competition kept up an excellent pace of play, we really enjoyed our round with perhaps one exception a vertically challenging par three on the back nine, not my husbands best hole.
psf
very nice layout but they had hollow tined and dressed the greens which made them un-playable. So they should have given a substantial discount.
A very nice Covid experience
Started with a call from the Professional the evening prior to warn that the course would be being top dressed, which was thoughtful.
The condition of the course was super, despite a heavy downpour overnight.
The Professional met us warmly, had our buggy cleaned & ready to go.
The course was clear, so we were able to start early, & the members & the ground keepers were welcoming and chatty.
The course was beautifully presented, and lived up to our expectations, challenging our 19 & 12 handicap as expected.
The Clubhouse facilities were limited, but given the conditions we are experiencing not surprising. We also played early, & we did expect this, though.
Overall, a great, value for money experience, & we will go again.
Keith
Very clean and well looked after greens and fairways, busy course but fast play is needed which sometimes for beginners would be a bit daunting,
All in all dully enjoyed and would recommend.
Impressive
Impressive course. Friendly club shop. Incredible first 9 holes with lovely vistas. Beautifully cut greens and fairways. Unfortunately on the back nine we got stuck from a very slow four ball up ahead that seemed to cause a backlog of players waiting on every tee. At times there were upto 10 players waiting to tee off! It doesn’t take away wanting to have another go on this course. But that back nine very slow play ruined the experience of such a wonderful and testing course.
Fantastic day of golf
had a great day course was in fantastic condition very picturesque, ground staff doing a fantastic job would recommend this for a good day out pace of the greens and condition was superb
A fine course and a good test of golf
I played with 2 sons yesterday. It had been raining, but stayed dry, if a bit dull, during our round. The first 5 holes are somewhat of a procession up and down, but great for warming up. The course then becomes interesting with some sweeping long par 4s, a charming but challenging 110 yd par 3, a quirky par 5 with a blind shot up hill to a hidden green, a challenging par 3 where the green is significantly up a steep hill, which all adds up to an enjoyable, playable course. The greens were true and quick, and although bunkers were not being maintained due to COVID impacts, that did not detract from the enjoyment. We did not use the clubhouse, but we were made welcome in the pro shop and saw a few members during our round, who were fine!!
Great course
Played for the 1st time and really enjoyed it. Fairways are forgiving if you have natural slice like myself. Course is well looked after and the staff were friendly and helpful. Would recommend and will be going back
