Relaxing atmosphere

it’s one of my favorite courses to play & improve my game, I always recommend this course to those that are just beginning to play due to most courses having homes around them. I go back as often as I can.

Laid Back Golf at it's best

If you want a laid back and relaxing round of golf, for the best price around, visit Mustang Creek GC in Taylor, Texas. The speed of play will get you in and out in three and a half hours. The staff and members are country friendly and very hospitable. It has become my go to course.

Nice challenge for all levels

Be playing since March of this year and played here several times. Water hazards up the challenge of tee shots. Wide open greens make an off a bit shot still good. Clubhouse staff are friendly.

Great 9 Hole Practice Course

For not much more than a big bucket of balls, you can actually get out and play. The staff is always friendly. No food, but beer and snacks.

When I don't want to invest a whole afternoon and just want 9 holes, this place cannot be beat. Prices vary according to days and times, but I have gotten 18 hole prices of $15 on more than one occasion. Pay that, and go play nine with a cart!

OK, the course is not in the best shape. Some holes are better than others, but the greens are generally kept up.

Just go play it and have fun. Good beginner course, but please go play Avery Ranch while you are learning :-)

Fun course to play a quick 9 holes. Lots of hills with great views. Staff is great, saw we were new to the course and took time to explain every hole before we hit the first tee.

Always a relaxing round.

Yes, it is a country golf course. As long as you know that going in, you'll be fine. This is a wonderful place to play some relaxing golf. I have yet to meet anyone there who isn't relaxed and just enjoying a nice day of hitting the ball. Rusty and the gang are always a treat to chat with. They make sure you had a decent time.

I started the day on #6 because there a few foursomes in front of me on one and two. On my second trip to the first tee, there was a group of three ladies waiting to tee off. I invited them with me, especially Italy since I was only going to be playing the first five holes to round out my 18. The professed they were beginners and didn't want to hold me up. I replied that any day not at work, and on the course was a good day and I was in no hurry.

We did play slowly, but no one cared. In the first five holes we let two threesomes play through. They were just as nice as you please when we let them through.

Bottom line is this is a nice place to swing your clubs and have a relaxing time doing it.

Cool country 9-hole

My wife and I played here a few times over the past month. It's a great little course that's not intimidating to new golfers like my wife.

It's clear this place is built in the middle of farm country; although the greens are in pretty decent condition, the place definitely has a vibe of being a well manicured horse pasture. That said, it's challenging, and a ton of fun.

My favorite holes are 1,3,4, and 6. :)

Course is in great shape

Great 9 hole course for the money. Wide enough for the beginner but with small greens and good layout its challenging even for the seasoned golfer. Staff is friendly and pace of play is generally quick. With the recent rain the course is in great shape.

Small town 9-hole ... better than being at work!

You never quite know what to expect from the only course in a small town. Of course, due to lack of players, land, water, etc., this course is a shorter 9-hole par 35. But don't let that stop you from playing just 9 or playing it twice for 18.

I didn't expect much before trying this course out for the first time. I must say that I was pleasantly surprised by quite a few things. Right off the bat, I was greeting by a very friendly guy working the pro shop. Ah, you just have to love the attitude you'll so often find in a small town.

I was expecting a flat course ... cut out of some old pasture. While there weren't a lot of trees, the course actually sits on a hillside and rolls back and forth. This means you'll have to club up/down one on a number of holes.

The concrete cart paths are in quite good condition throughout. So many courses without the bigger finances seem to have such poor cart paths but not this place.

The fairways were all in good shape. Sure you'll get a mixture of grasses and a few more mowed down weeds on a rustic/country course like this, but they've done a good job of keeping it ready for play. The rough was primarily bermuda grass and was a little deeper than I'd like. But that was mainly because the ball would hide down in the grass. Playing solo today, I didn't have any help finding my balls in the non-fairway grass.

The greens are definitely on the smaller side and most seem to be bowled where your ball will run off the side if you're not careful. They also have their fair share of undulation. No one said this would be easy.

For most players, the two par 5s will be reachable ... and you lose nothing by going for them.

I recall only one bunker. Even though it was behind the #3 par 3 green, it really wasn't in play in my opinion.

There's a narrow dry creek type runoff that runs through a couple of fairways. And there are three water carries over ponds. You can make that four if you're trying to drive the green on #8.

I didn't realize it until after my round but #18 actually has two greens. The second is higher up and on the other side of the cart path. I have a feeling few people other than locals even know that it's there.

One thing I'd never seen before are individual locking storage units for personal golf carts. This way the locals don't have to trailer them back home. I think they have a couple dozen units total.

And finally, if the weather's right and you have the time, the covered picnic table area at the clubhouse is a nice spot to sit and watch the sunset as you look over the course. Very peaceful!

Good wide open course

It has some challenges to it but it's wide open for most of the course. Even being a 9 hole course, it's still fun to play 18

Cow Pasture!

This course is in terrible condition. It reminds me of hitting golf balls in a cow pasture growing up. I typically play Sun City courses so I am used to playing on well maintained greens and fairways.

What I really got a kick out of was on the par 5 5th hole my dad and I were driving over by the road in grass that was about ankle high looking for his ball. There are stakes posted on this "fairway" (there is literally no fairway grass to be seen" and we were on the outside of these stakes. After taking a lost ball he hits his shot and we approach the green. An older gentleman comes up and asks us if we know the 90 degree rule. I say yes and he proceeds to chew us out saying we have been ignoring it all day. He also says that we were continually driving inside the staked of area which we clearly were not. I am in complete disbelief and can't help but laugh when I think about the condition the course is in and the fact this guy is getting on to us about a 90 degree rule when we had just witnessed 5 of their regulars all playing together in separate carts driving up and down the "fairways."

Long story short this course is not worth the money. It is priced way to high to hit a perfect shot down the middle of the "fairway" only to be laying in dirt.

I will stick to the nicer courses in Georgetown where I have never once received a complaint about the way I drive on their fairways.

Mustang Creek-A Fun, laid back experience.

This little course suffers in the drought, but in the spring, the greens are beautiful. Play it before it gets to be TEXAS summer. There are no trees to hide from the sun. Don't take it too seriously, just have fun. Go to Louis Mueller Bar-B-Q in Taylor after the game.
