Mowing
I’ve always enjoyed playing at this golf course for its well-designed layout and the challenge it presents. However, I was concerned to see lawnmowers being used on the fairways while they were still flooded. This has led to dead spots on the fairway, which can be frustrating and affect the quality of play. I hope the course management will address this issue to maintain the course’s excellent standards.
Pace of play
I’ve played this course multiple times over the last 2 months. The pace of play has been an issue every time I’ve been at this course. There isn’t a marshal to enforce pace of play or to make people play in groups. During this round, I had to start on hole 10, slow pace of play, about 2.5 hours to play 9 holes. Got to hole number 1 after the turn and there was about 6 carts waiting to tee off. They began letting people start their round on hole one, leading to even slower play. I left after 9 holes because I didn’t want to wait for 3 other groups to t begin their round and then be behind them. Asked for clarification in the pro shop and I was told that they must be starting the scramble tournament.
Conditions are getting worse
I like the staff in the pro shop but unfortunately they
may be the best thing going here. The golf course has potential but the playing conditions are trending worse and they aren’t very good now. Tee boxes lack grass, fairways are spotty and weed infested and the greens are also lacking grass, but possess planet of weeds. Green fees are dirt cheap and that may be part of the problem. No revenue to maintain the course. They recently purchased new GPS golf carts and they are nice. But the lack of signage on the course to direct you to the next tee and the poor playing conditions make it hard to leave a favorable grade.
junior championship coarse
Risk vs. Reward style coarse. Nothing long with fast greens.
This course is the worst one in temple
Terrible greens, no golf etiquette, and random kids are allowed on the course to ask for “rides” on the back of carts. Absolutely ridiculous. Do not golf here, go to Storms End or ANYWHERE else.
First time visitor
While visiting my Son at Ft Hood, I decided to get in a round of golf and found Sammons in Temple, Texas (about 35 mins away) so decided to give it a try. Pace of play might have been an issue as there was four carts full of teenagers getting ready to play. Looked over the course and saw a window in opportunity to start on the 10th with two other singles. That probably saved me from some slow play.
Course conditions were okay, nothing to get excited or hateful about. Greens looked okay and played faster than what I normally see in the San Francisco Bay Area. Takes me a few holes to get use to as I would blow my first putt by the hole … Course layout was nice
I was lucky enough to book through a hot deal special so my green fee was reduced. Clubhouse staff was friendly.
Make that trip to Temple
Austin courses are full and expensive, and this gem is just sitting there wanting to be played!! Still early in the season but really nice fairways. Greens still dealing with minor weeds, but did not impact our play. Lots of water to protect the course, so come prepared. Marshalls kept things moving and food was tasty. Will be back soon!!
Awful pace of play
Marshall did nothing but sit at the tee box, let a foursome cut in line on #10 when we had a group of two which slowed it down even more.
Did not even try to get groups to pick up the pace of play.
