Very Slow
Pace of play is always bad at this course and no one enforces the pace two groups in front of us joined up to create a sevens one for the last 4 holes. The tee boxes are so hard you can’t put a tee in the ground. Don’t forget to aerate the tee boxes. Greens are in pretty good shape except for people not repairing ball marks.
Average municipal course
Course is in decent shape for the price point. Playing around the lake is fun and some sort of creek or water feature is in play on 12 of the 18 holes, which makes for some interesting decisions having to be made throughout the round. The pace of play here is horrendous. Don’t expect your round to ever be less than 4 hours. Due to many tees, greens, and fairways being so close to each other, there are several backup spots that are almost unavoidable. You will wait on several tee boxes. The food and staff are great. Overall average course. If pace of play improved, I would bump it to 4 stars because it’s great value for the price.
Challenging especially for first timers
The course is one that is difficult the first time you play it which definitely makes it a challenge. It is not a course you can just grip it and rip it.
Ridiculous
Where do the “fairways” end and rough begins? Wouldn’t know since it all looked like rough. Terrible grounds keeping. Tee boxes were even worse. The greens were decent is about the only good thing about the course. First and last time playing there.
Great couarse
Had a great time with my crew ,it was a over cast loved it . I shot a 83 getting better
Playing An Old Friend
We have been playing Sammons on vacation for over 30 year. The course layout is unique with a large body of water and a rail line that runs through the course. For April the greens and course were in good shape despite a little sogginess from a recent Texas downpour. Friendly staff and well appointed club house. Not enough affordable public courses like Sammons.
Nice course
The morning Marshall was a bit gruff, but the rest of the staff was very nice. The course was in great shape, definitely a challenging course.
Sad State of Affairs
The course is back in the bad condition it was in a few years ago. I know the staff can't control the weather, but this course is a muddy wet mess.
Upscale Muni Course
I have played here a few times over past two years. I thought the course was in fabulous condition for the end of March. Greens rolled well and fairways were beginning to grow in.
Not a terribly challenging course, but it gets you thinking for longer shots on back side.
Very minor waits on two or three holes towards the end, but decent pace of play 3.5 hrs
A little rough
Conditions are a bit rough. No. 1 fairway in particular was awful. Driving a cart in some fairways is like riding a bronco. Some water hazards were lined with litter. No drinking water or ball washers anywhere. Some greens were not good.
Sammons Park Golf Course
This was a decent muni and the value was good. The course was a fun layout around the lakes which presented adequate challenges .the fairways weren’t in very good condition—constantly hitting off dirt and no grass. The tee times weren’t spaced far enough apart and we were constantly waiting, even though we finished in a little over 4 hours (should have taken 3).
Good price
I enjoy the course but I have to bring extra balls. Lots of water. They upgraded the carts so they aren’t gps limited anymore. Some fairways were super hard and I couldn’t get under with the irons like I would have liked. I’m also a terrible golfer. Best bang for your buck around the area.
Not recommended
A short course, so it stacks up frequently
Greens in decent shape; fairways mostly rather poor.
Course is in disrepair, not very well maintained, e.g, broken pavement to absent cart paths, weeds in fairways.
Course layout is at times confusing, with little or no signage to direct players unfamiliar with course.
Sorry, can't recommend this course.
No one to enforce pace of play
There is no Marshall to ensure pace of play is being followed. There were 5 tee times backed up on first tee box because there were people attempting to teach first time golfers how to golf. Could take up to 30 minutes to finish a hole. Starter just stayed parked by club house even though he could see what was going on in the 1st fairway. Took over 6 hours to finish a round, unaccepatable!
Good for a municipal course
I suppose one could complain about the fairways not being in great shape and there was considerable trash gathering at the shores of the water hazards but it’s one of those “you pay for what you get” kinda things… the staff has always been friendly. The greens were a bit challenging and fun for me though that may not say much since I typically 3 putt anyways… overall Sammons is a solid municipal course and I always enjoy playing there even when the pace is slow due to very high traffic…
