Winter golf
Only managed 6 holes due to playability. After loads of rain in recent weeks the course is saturated. Having said that it looks in good condition and some of the holes look great. Looking forward to a few rounds here in better conditions. Staff seem great though and green fee was only £10 so can’t complain.
Poor Course Condition
Other than the greens which were in good condition the course was in a very poor condition with little grass on some tees and very patchy fairways.
I have played this course in the past when it was in a great condition si was extremely disappointed.
The greens where. However in good condition but very tricky.
Micky mouse golf in rubbish condition
Just a joke of a golf course in poor winter condition. Currently on the 9th and can’t wait to get off this pathetic excuse for a golf course. Muddy and badly maintained and the holes are buddies so far into the greens they are virtually overgrown. AVOID!!!!
Not championship standard by a long shot
No buggies available
No baskets available for range balls
4/5 range balls cracked or dead
Tee time double booked
Pace of play abysmal
No tap water in the halfway house
Staff dropped rubbish and broken glass out of a buggy and simply drove away.
Not what it was
Still good fun in nice weather but completely unplayable otherwise, compared to the high standards kept by other clubs in the area for less than half the price for a round or a membership.
Seemingly no actual golf club staff on hand for any needs or queries. No club house just the hotel reception who are friendly but usually unaware of actual course conditions. You are also charged when calling the hotel to be repeatedly left still guessing when the receptionist has no information regarding the course itself (that or trying to call for hours with no answer from the golf staff themselves)
Granted we’ve had a lot of rain recently but fairways didn’t seem to have been cut in a very long time, might as well have played in the surrounding farmers fields.
Greens are usually the highlight at Hollins but again it seemed little care or attention has gone into them for several months.
As said earlier, for the prices of the round and buggies you’ll find infinitely better value in other local courses such as west Bradford.
The place is owned by Brittania now, who have a reputation for shocking quality in all of their locations so I can’t help but think these problems won’t be addressed anytime soon.
Nowhere near good enough for the price you pay.
Unplayable course condition, overbooked tees.
Played Friday 7th April 2023.
We had to suffer double booked tee times, boggy uncut fairways, patchy greens, mowers out on a busy bank holiday.
Worse than a municipal.
Nice Course, Tough Walk
A great course with great potential. Seems to have held up well over winter. Some areas under repair and heavy sections still though. Stuck behind an 8 person stay party for 4.75 hours which ruined an otherwise good course.
Winter golf at it's best
No winter mats or temporary greens. Some areas of GUR and bunkers being re-sanded, but you can expect that this time of year. I'd be dis-appointed if the green keepers weren't preparing the course for the coming season. A challenging course for high handicapper's who can't hit the ball far, with no roll on the fairways. Course management is key, keep the ball in play, club up and you've half a chance.
Most scenic course I’ve played, stunning
First time playing the course, I’ll be back, stunning settings and views, fantastic holes, greens were great condition for winter golf conditions, can’t wait for firmer conditions on fairways but for this time of year and recent weather they were better than most courses so wouldn’t put me off playing it again soon,
Take The Rough With The Smooth
Booked our fourball the day before, we knew it would be a bit soft underfoot, however the sun was shining and it wasn't too cold.
After checking-in at reception we made our way up the steep path to the 1st tee, unfortunately we were stopped by a member of staff who told us that owing to the ground conditions, trolleys couldn't be used. This meant carrying our bags or paying for two buggies (which had to stay on the concrete paths at all times) we opted for buggies but it would have been better to receive that information at the time of booking, as it would have made us consider a different course. (Was told it was a communication issue between the venue and the booking app)
I can only presume that this was the reason for the delay in the three groups in front of us teeing off late (we were 20 mins behind schedule) and with a couple of groups waiting behind us, there wasn't any opportunity to sort it out.
It's a lovely setting for a course with some great views and despite the hills (coupled with the constant to & fro from the buggies to swap clubs), it was enjoyable to play and I can imagine it on a dry summer's day. It had some nice wide fairways and I particularly liked the setting for the viaduct hole. We felt the fairways needed a trim (you shouldn't lose balls that go straight down the middle) and the greens need a good roll. Afterwards we had a decent pint in a nice bar, served by a nice lady.
Would I play it again? Yes, probably, but during the drier months. Would i recommend it? Again, yes, as it's a fair price.
Hollins hall
I have played hollins hall many times and I love this course but this time was very wet and boggy , greens were in good shape and the staff are great
Poorly maintained
This is a hilly course, with significant distance between some greens and tees so not for the faint hearted. The layout is interesting and the course could potentially be an excellent challenge if it was suitably maintained. Although the greens and fringes were quite good, the remainder of the course leaves a lot to be desired. Uncut fairways like semi-rough and difficult to distinguish from the overgrown rough.
Wouldn’t choose to play again in this condition
Great course
Great course well set out great holes really enjoy playing here apart from that walk to the first hole ha ha but would definitely recommend playing here
Course in bad condition
There are no discernible fairways from rough and the bunkers are either empty of sand or filled with rubble and sand.
I appreciate it’s winter but the course is not well looked after.
Great, challenging course.
First time having played a championship course having only played a 9 hole pay and play before.
It was a tricky round with strong winds and muddy/boggy fairways, but it's a beautiful course in a great location.
I will be going back to play again as soon as I can and especially when the weather is better.
