Round of golf
What a little gem set in parklands with dear roaming freely, can tell it had been battered by the recent rain but all the greenskeepers were out in force and is looking good and expect it to improve even more.
Not as good as i would expect
First time i have here for over two covid etc
Greens poor yes it has been wet
Although the course is playable to many areas muddy
hopefully be much better come mid April
A wet one
Staff were friendly enough, there had been an issue with our booking and we had been paired with another group, staff told us we were welcome to let him play off in front if we didn’t want to make small talk. Pace of play was very good, very quick for a Saturday afternoon. Had been some concerns in the build up as website said no trolleys, however push/pull were allowed on the day. Course was very damp, hadn’t been hardly any rain in the build up so was surprised by this. In places there were quite visible puddles, drainage could be worked on.
I’d probably play there again if it was a society day but not sure if rush back for a standard round.
Stopped for a drink after, clubhouse staff very good, limited out door seating, 2 picnic benches in the shade of a bush, nothing on the terrace (which was strange)
Course had a great lay out but very wet all over worth a knock in dry conditions
Poor Conditions
The course is in terrible condition at the moment and was still letting trolleys on which cant be helping. Play was really really slow. Normally an enjoyable course but charging full price for that didnt seem right. Avoid till conditions improve
Great value
I played this course a couple of times and it is a great course with some amazing views, the staff are very friendly and there's plenty of parking.
Good course - not great greens
Well laid out course with a fair amount of challenges - worst thing about it was the greens where very patchy and very hard.
Good but can be improved
I’ve played here a few times over the years and I really like the course layout with each hole offers a different challenge. The wildlife on display is magnificent with Deer casually strolling around, unfazed by the golfers. I do think good greens make a course, and that’s where Mayland’s lets itself down. They are uneven as a result of the coring process, therefore making it a pain to putt on, with straight putts taking a turn or bobble on its way to the hole.
It’s better greens away from being a great course.
Greens
The greens were like putting on the beach , I no they have to work on the greens but did not need to leave the green completely covered n sand was a joke, to be honest a waste of 30 pound
very slow
Played yesterday in a 2 ball , found the pace of play very slow. The greens were poor having had recent maintenance work carried out.
impressed and thinking of membership
the pros- pace of play was great. no hold ups at all. course layout and design was fun and challenging. the bunkers all had nice sand in and were no trouble playing out off. tees were flat and in good condition. witnessed about 10 green keeping staff out doing work through the round.
aesthetically pleasing on the eye with all the deer about.
the cons - rough was a little too long TBH. leaves on the course made it difficult to find even a well hit ball, but it is that time of year! greens had been spiked and covered (and i mean covered) in sand.
but to be fair, if i was a member here i would put up with this if it meant you received top quality conditions for the rest of the time. course was challenging but not ridiculously so for a mid to high HC.
Overall Good
Overall, Maylands was good. The leaves from the trees were causing a slight problem with finding your ball, even on the fairways but leaf blowers did appear after we had played about 10 holes. Greens had been spiked which didn't help much but I guess it needs to be done. I would go back.
Good to get out, but,,,,
As always a challenging course. Fairways, bunkers and greens all adequate but bettered on other similar courses. Most annoying factor was that our pre booked tee time was directly behind a large society. It resulted in us playing the front 9 twice. The 1st 9 took 3:15 hours the 2nd 1:30hours. No problem with the society in front but the club should have given more leeway to them and any bookings behind. Great staff and social facilities.
Mayfield
2nd time playing Mayfield. Slow play and noise from M25 on some holes the minuses - good course and greens, friendly staff and members and an enjoyable afternoon overall the pluses.
