A Disappointing Day at Melton Town Golf Course
I recently had the opportunity to play a round at Melton Town Golf Course, and unfortunately, the experience left much to be desired. Unfortunately, several issues detracted from the overall experience.
One of the most glaring problems was the state of the greens. It was evident that they were in a state of disrepair, with patches of uneven grass and numerous bare spots. This made putting a frustrating endeavor.. It's disheartening to see a golf course neglect such a crucial aspect, as the condition of the greens significantly impacts the quality of play.
Furthermore, the fairways at Melton Town Golf Course were disappointingly indistinguishable from the rough. The lack of maintenance and care rendered the fairways less defined.
Aside from the physical condition of the course, there was an eerie atmosphere that pervaded the entire facility. Whether it was the lack of activity, minimal staff presence, or the general neglect of the surroundings, the ambiance was far from inviting.
Adding to the disappointment was the fact that, at £23, the round of golf was not value for money. Given the subpar conditions of the course, the price seemed disproportionately high compared to the quality of the golfing experience provided.
While the potential for improvement exists, addressing these issues is crucial to elevate the overall golfing experience at this course. Until significant improvements are made, I would caution golf enthusiasts to explore alternative options in the area for a more satisfying round of golf and better value for their money.
Crap
Don’t waste your money, course is a shambles. Think the mower must be broken as you can’t differentiate between rough and “fairway”. Greens are a state. Appreciate its winter golf but it’s terrible value for money.
A real disappointment.
Previous reviews had raved about the course condition, However, the day we went this was not the case. Think they may have lost the lawn mower because it was impossible to differentiate between fairway, rough and even greens sometimes. As if the conditions couldn’t get any worse the layout was extremely boring, very much up and down with only 1 or 2 holes that require some ball movement from the tee.
The guy in the pro shop was very friendly and welcoming which was a nice touch, unfortunately rather pointlessly, sternly reminded us we should have spike wheels on our trolleys but how were we to know, no signs or warnings.
Overall very poor course conditions and I personally wasn’t a fan of the layout. I will add I did play in January which could excuse some level of the course but laziness has definitely set in with the green keepers.
Thanks Melton GC
We’ve spent a couple of years travelling around Golf courses in the midlands and Melton Mowbray GC is definitely in the best condition by far. The greens are amazing with the fairways and tee off area well groomed. A great day out and a really good challenge, friendly staff and great facilities…
Would recommend…
A hidden Jem
Great course after all the heavy downpours. Greens immaculate. Staff very friendly and attentive as we're the members who let me tee off before them .
Will play the course in the summer
There has been a lot of heavy rain recently
Course flat and laid out well
The greens were much slower than I am used too
That was down to the weather not course management
Amazing staff
First time playing here and the staff were amazing. Pace of play was very slow but seemed to be a one off after talking to some of the members. The greens seemed to have recently had a revamp so were slightly worse for wear but can tell they will be great in a couple weeks
Worth the trip
Good all round course. Good mix of dog leg holes to allow use of irons as well as driver. 4 Par 3 with different demands. Greens soft but we'll maintained. Friendly staff, good beer and chips worth trying. Will be back to play a better round hopefully.
Great course
Lots of rain meant the place was soft but a really nicely managed parkland course
I will defo be back
Lovely layout
Been coming to Melton now for some time and never gets old, members are always friendly and happy to chat. Haven’t had a bad day here. A very nice day out
Great day
This was our first time at Melton Mowbray and it didn’t disappoint. Good course good welcome and great burger!
Course in very good condition and the greens were excellent! Very quiet when we played, so pace of play was as fast or as slow as you liked. Will definitely return.
NOT to be confused with MMGC at Thorpe Arnold.
