Great Track
Better course than I expected, a really good challenge and would certainly like to go back and play. Lots and lots of rain recently but the course and greens in good shape and playable everywhere.
Merlin Golf course, near Morgan Porth
I have played this course four times and never tire of the views. The course has a nice variety of holes and some tough par 3’s, especially when the wind blows. Easy to get to, good parking and friendly staff. The golf now green fee makes it very attractive.
Plenty of long par 4 holes
The overall layout of course is good. The fairway grass was quite long and greens were slow. The reception from the booking inn was lovely and friendly. Overall good value.
Great course with stunning views
Played Merlin on a beautiful sunny day, the four ball in front let us play through. The grounds team were courteous stopping their mowing when we’re taking our shots.
Decent course
Would defo play again and great value for money but a lot of the course is very samey but some nice views of the countryside
Great course!
Really enjoyed my round at Merlin. Friendly and welcoming staff on reception, who gave me some useful tips. Course was in great condition - a good challenge combined with excellent views of the beautiful countryside and coast line. Will definitely be returning - would recommend!
The course
This golf club at one time must of been very good but unfortunately it looks like money is getting short, every thing is a bit tatty, when you arrive you are greeted by probably the worst putting green I’ve ever seen so when you get on the course you’re are not surprised when the greens are as bad, the only safe in grace was it only cost £17.00, this course has a lot of potential.
We will not be playing it again.
Great friendly staff
I made a mistake when booking my tee time and the staff sorted it out without question. The course was in great condition and not too busy
Disappointed
Having played Merlin Golf Club previously, my wife and I were looking forward to it. The friendliness of the staff and facilities on arrival was second to none however once on the course it was a different matter. The fairways had not been cut and were full of daisies, the first cut of rough had so much mowed grass left on it that loosing balls was common. The green were awful with a lot of dry, bare patches. Listening to the locals once finished everybody was complaining. For an extra £2 (a couple) we should have played Newquay Golf Club. We drove home disappointed.
Great views
Nice open course with great views, the weather was perfect the fairways in great order, but hit your ball just off and it could easily be lost in amongst the daisies and dandelions.
Value for money
Played merlin golf course as a good rate came up was pleasantly surprised with the course for the amount I paid. Course was in good condition struggled to find a few tee boxes as it was the first time playing at merlin. Apart from that I couldn’t find fault will be back again for sure.
Shocking
The fairways are that long (more light rough) and full of daisies you lose your ball on a long straight shot. The greens are a disgrace, my ball bounced on some puts. Stood at reception for five minutes before the man behind the counter even acknowledged my presence. Groups playing in jeans and hoodies just about sums it up. Beautiful countryside however. I have been playing for twenty years and this is the worst excuse for a golf course I have ever seen and that includes playing some poor courses in mid winter.
Easter Sunday with Josh
Waited ages for a member of staff from kitchen to come to reception, l had to walk through to get someone! No greeting or advise given as no pro around at all, greens poor & fairways so over £50 spent with no value except being with my son.Paul
Dear Reviewer,
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We are sorry to hear that you experienced some issues during your recent visit to our course. We apologise for any inconvenience caused by the delay in a member of staff coming from the kitchen to reception, and we will be sure to investigate this matter further to ensure that it does not happen again in the future.
Unfortunately, due to the unprecedented wet weather in March we have experienced some delays to our maintenance schedule which coincided with the Easter holidays. This is very bad timing for our visitors and we can only apologise.
We hope that you will give us another chance to provide you with a better experience in the future.
Thank you again for your feedback.
Sincerely,
Merlin Golf Club
good course would recommend
we took buggies are 1st time around this course would recommend as its a good walk but when you are unfamiliar with the layout this is a good way to feel better playing
the course was in great condition greens fairly fast great clubhouse bacon bap and a coffee before the game recommended
has a driving range and a small putting practice area
in all we would go back no problem extra nice lady in the shop very helpful and kind
Great value course
This is a really fun course to play. Short par 3 to start, which settles your nerves. My favourite hole had to be the 10th which is a par 5 dog leg left. Great chance to knock some shots off there.
Course has a few areas that need repairing, nothing that hinders play. But they do look a bit messy.
Dear Reviewer,
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience at Merlin. I am sorry to hear that your experience was not up to your expectations. We take all feedback seriously and appreciate the opportunity to improve.
Regarding the daisies and the fairways, unfortunately due to the unprecedented wet weather in March we had to delay our spraying to coincide with the Easter holidays, which is very bad timing for our visitors and for which we can only apologise. We cannot spray during wet weather as the herbicide cannot take effect. In addition, herbicide run off can harm the environment and wildlife. Once sprayed the grass must be left for a few days for the herbicide to take effect.
We are sorry to hear that you did not feel welcomed by our staff. We pride ourselves on providing excellent customer service, and we apologise if this was not the case during your visit. We will investigate your comments.
We do have a relaxed dress code policy at our course, but we understand that some guests may prefer a more traditional dress code. We appreciate your feedback and will take it into consideration when reviewing our policies.
We are glad to hear that you enjoyed the beautiful countryside surrounding our course. We hope that you will give us another chance to provide you with a better experience in the future.
Thank you again for your feedback.
Sincerely,
Merlin Golf Club
