No character, just a bit long
Poorly maintained course, terrible slow greens, no interesting holes
Not up to usual standards
I have played Mottram Hall about a dozen times, but yesterday I was really disappointed. Usually the course is in great condition, however yesterday wasn’t the case. The greens were rock hard, fluffy and with bald patches and the pin locations were right on the edge of greens, making approach shots near impossible to hold the green. Considering the amount of rain we have had over the last few weeks, they should have had at least a bit of stop in them. I think the greenkeeper had had a bad day. Also, the pace of play was ridiculous. Front 9 was great, however, back 9 we were held up by a four ball, in buggies, who had no consideration for people playing behind them, and by the time we came to the 18th we were completely disinterested. Every shot we were waiting 5 minutes to hit, while we watched the group in front play better ball for no apparent reason. Why there was no course marshall on I have no idea, but a two ball shouldn’t be getting held up by a four ball. Overall, really disappointed and we won’t be rushing back to play this course any time soon.
Great course
Starter wasn’t aware of my booking via Golf Now which was a bit embarrassing but he was very friendly and allowed us to play, however it was 7am so not sure what would have happened if it was during a busier period
Great day
Considering we’re still coming out of lockdown the overall course was in good condition. Really good driving course
Needs organising better
Do like the course BUT we had a tee time booked but others were told it was okay to tee off at the same time as the tee was clear. FYI it isn't & it wasn't. Also a group jumped in on the tenth tee between two groups pretty close together. Someone needs to tell them not to do that as its bang out of order.
Not the best
Greens were in a terrible state. Not worth the 40 pound green fee on a Friday morning
Fairly Average
Rather disappointed, furlough and lockdown aside and taken into consideration, course should not still be £40 a round. Poorly maintained, greens spongey and very patchy, tees and layout of some of the holes are very peculiar. Shame, it has the potential to be a cracking course with challenges however resort and hotel appear to have taken the majority of the investment. Won’t be coming back for a while to say the least
A tale of 2 halves - 1 stunning, 1 forgettable
Opening 9 was quite boring - up and down and now well manicured, 2nd 9 (apart from 17th) was a complete contrast, very interesting and excellent set of holes - at the 17th they have moved the tee up about 150yards for whatever reason that nearly makes the hole unplayable - hope this is an interim thing.
I imagine that the green keepers were working throughout lockdown as the green were pretty ropey and inconsistent on pace.
I’ll come back and play it in a few months just for the back 9 alone.
Great to be back
Overall a really enjoyable round. The front nine lacks any great imagination but os in great condition and forgiving (which helps after a long enforced break). The back nine is much more interesting. Course in good condition amd extremely pleased to grab a tee time on first day back after lockdown. Proshop were great also, non nonsense and very friendly.
Well kept
Groundsmen/greenkeepers doing a fantastic job.
Course was in great condition.
Lovely sunny day which makes everything better
Disappointing
Having been a member for a number of years within the last 5/6 years the course was in fantastic conditions, however today it was pretty poor.
I respect that maybe they have furloughed green keepers and staff, but paying £40 for a round of a highly rated course to be in that condition was disappointing. Having spent a fortune on the hotel renovations, it very much looks as though the course has been neglected.
Great day
Fairways in excellent comdition considering the time of year and the rescent rainfall . No need for fairway mats which was a bonus Greens ok overall experience very good.
Worth playing
Well looked after greens. Nice open fairways. But the fairways need some love and care. Over all enjoyed the course. Happily recommend friends to play.
