A nice hidden gem
Played here many times and always good pace of play. Staff are all great and it's very welcoming. Course layout is really interesting with a great down hill par 3 into a valley. The course condition has been really bad this spring unfortunately due to the wet weather and badgers digging up greens. Condition was the good last summer though.
Worst green ever
Some of the greens in the first few holes was literally in the fairway.
Simply enjoyable
Well what can I say, location and visually a stunning course.
A shorter course than your average, but it plays longer with the terrain. Especially this time of year weather conditions, playing into wind etc.
over all, a challenging course, plenty of greens on shelves and challenging pin positions( when I played). I’d definitely like to come back in the summer. The amenities were fair, and the food, certainly not the finest but my only constructive Critism.
Thankyou, The North downs, see you again soon.
Nice course
The course is not long and is ideal for mid handicap golfers. Staff were friendly here and it is a course that we will enjoy playing again.
Great course
Great course very friendly staff and members. Course in great condition.
Very nice course with some testing holes wish I had played it sooner
AVOID
The layout of the course is great, if you enjoy parallel fairways on a 45 degree slope. The pace of play was abysmal, there were points where 3 twoballs were waiting on the tee. The greens were rock solid, no spin or stop, like putting on concrete. However they weren’t as bad as the tee boxes- made out of either sand or concrete it was impossible to hit an iron off most tee boxes. The “hit and hope hole” was the worst, a 165 shot downhill by about 30 yards, which was essentially off a tee box that may as well have been a bunker.
The putting green is *on* the back of the 18th green which was odd beyond belief.
The staff were nice though, so every cloud.
This course is not busy
Although parking is an issue we found that there was no waiting at the tee and the pace of play was really good.
The course itself wasn’t in the greatest of conditions (back 9 better than front 9) but the layout was interesting enough with some long par 4s mixed with some drivable ones. For a high handicapper who doesn’t want to feel pressured this could be a good fit but for me the conditioning of the course just wasn’t up to par.
Great course but....Check before playing!
Nine of us played with our small society. Most were new to N Downs. All liked the course but we were all disappointed that all 18 holes had temporary greens. Most of the greens looked and felt playable, and although the fairways were very muddy in places, we'd all seen far worse elsewhere.
We'll play again but had booked based on a super round a month prior and only 2 temp greens. Policy changes needed?
1st time of playing
I was very much looking forward to playing this course after reading recent reviews, however when I checked in at the pro shop I was informed that all greens were unplayable and temporary greens were being used, obviously this is not something you want to hear and had I have known this I would probably have not made the hour long journey. I do feel the course should have been closed as it was unplayable in parts , however saying all of the above I would like to play the course in the summer . Basically temp greens are no fun and if I new this was the case I would have gone to a driving range.
