Muddy
The course was close to being waterlogged. Fairways and paths were all very muddy as were tees. On arriving, we were told that bunkers were out of play, which was also a bit disappointing. Greens were fine compare to everything else. Layout is quite meandering though there were some interesting pat 3s. Can’t say whether we were unlucky or not but I understand course has a drainage problem. Was sadly all a bit of a slog. Pace of course was OK and practice facilities were good.
Disappointing
Everything appears right and location is great but unless we just arrived on a bad day the course needs a lot of TLC
The greens and fairways both needed cutting and it was impossible to putt on the greens due to the slow pace
It was hard to distinguish the fairways at times as they were simply too long
The tee boxes were very scrappy too
Fantastic Test of Golf
What a fantastic course! You need to pick the right shot selection. Fantastic welcome from the receptionist and the course was fantastic! Would recommend to a friend.
Such a shame...
What a fantastic location with fantastic greens unfortunately ruined by the worst fairways I’ve ever played on! The fairways need completely re-seeding. It’s such a shame as the course is set in a beautiful backdrop of rolling fields and fantastic pine trees lining the course. They need to seriously reconsider their green fees at £32 a round I couldn’t see the value comparing to other course with better
Facilities and course conditions. I would say £20 would be it’s limit until they resolve the fairways.
Fun and challenging
Great little course!! The greens are very well kept and the pace of play was excellent! Would recommend this any day of the week!
A chance
Great course big challenge for a high handy cap, well worth a visit dispute the hills. However club house staff far from the best no direction to first tee. No real drinks seletion on draft, felt all staff including two in the office where not giving all they could
Will not play again
Too slow play and looks not maintained course for a while. Green condition also very bad. Will never play again in this course.
Course a bit wet. Greens in great shape.
Old Course in play. Played here a few times in the past, set on clay so wet as expected. Greens and tees in great nick though. Defo return in the summer to play full Woodland 18.
Ok course, unhelpful greenkeeper
I’ve played this course a lot & it’s ok (apart from the mountainous section from holes 10-14), but left frustrated after the last time I played. Several of the green keepers were working on a bunker on the hole I was playing & the head greenkeeper took it upon himself to comment & criticise my shot & ability to play (I scored a bogey and was actually quite happy with my game). It felt like being back at school with the main bully having a laugh at the expense of others. I just felt the attitude was unfriendly & I couldn’t wait to get away from the guys. Is a shame as the pro shop staff are always really friendly.
Fairways badly maintained
Gave this course another try as the weather had improved and it had time to dry out. First hole seemed probable with really nice green. From then on it went down hill. It was like a second cut on the centre of the fairways and a very rough cut to the sides. The grass cuttings had been left where they fell and were clumps of dryed grass all over most of the fairways. Lost 4 balls on decent drives landing on the fairways but just disappearing in the grass. This is supposed to be golf which is difficult enough as it is without playing hunt the ball! Between us we lost 10 balls and not through bad shots but rough course conditions (except the greens which were good although varied a lot in speed). Spoke to the lad in the pro shop about the course and he couldn’t be bothered about what we were saying and just shrugged his shoulders and said it was down to the weather. Even when prompted for a proper response nothing. Very unhelpful and sums up a very bad experience of this club. Be ware if you book here and check on course conditions before you play.
A nicely kept place
A nice enough course set in woodland. The holes themselves are well kept, but a couple of the joining paths could do with improvements.
There is a good variety of different styles of holes, some of the par 3 are surprisingly challenging. The greens run well.
The staff were fine but not over enthusiastic. The clubhouse is looking a little dated but is comfortable enough for a post round drink.
Overall a very nice course, nothing too special but good value for money and a fun course to play.
Delay stops play
The incredibly slow play at this course on the day we played does not fill us with any confidence to return again. Slow play started early in our game and got slower as we got further around the course. A queue had developed, at I think hole 10 (has the mobile toilet) and from there on it got slower and slower until loss of momentum and the will to play any more holes ended after hole 13. Spoilt round which was either due to slow play or over booking. We complained in the Golf Shop and they were quick to give us a voucher to return however the voucher printed had an expiry date of February 2017, so we threw them on the counter and left in disgust as a queue had now developed in the shop and we had had enough of waiting. I am sure other players did not appreciate the 5 hours spent queuing for a round of golf. It may have helped if the provisions cart had been at the delay point for longer, as we passed it on our way out there.
Poor drainage
I've played this course a number of times, but not this time of the year. Its drainage is poor, fairway grass long, greens were appalling slow and not true. Often tee off from mats. This is despite the fact that there hasn't been much rain and the weather pretty good. So not surprisingly very few golfers. Avoid until summer.
Fun course but not for the faint-hearted
This course is an good interesting layout but the steep up and downhill section of holes 10-13 can be a significant card wrecker as if unfit you can find you game will suffer for the next few holes as you catch your breath!
The course is a good mix of holes of mixing varying lengths in par 3s and drivable and long par 4s. The two par fives also are challenging in windy conditions. Good clubhouse and facilities and additional 9 holes available on the valley course.
This course played excellent in the wet weather
The grounds staff have done an amazing job on the course, not a single temporary green, there were a few mats to tee off from but they are in good condition so not a problem
