The worse condition course I have ever played .. layout great!
I have given this course 2 stars which is the lowest I have ever given a course on here over hundreds of reviews. One star is for the layout which is probably one of the most interesting I have seen for a while. The other is for the greens which amazingly were really nice, although had not been mowed. As for the rest, terrible. I phoned and asked if it was fully open given most courses were struggling they said yes summer greens, winter tees. So I drove the hour to get there. I had a drink in the bar and listened to people raving about College Pines which is the best winter course in my own area (plus Kilton). I spoke to the pro in the shop, who was watching football and gave out minimal information. The first hole is an interesting layout but we struggled to locate the actual fairway given the grass was not defined. But, as soon as we stepped off the tee off mat, we knew why. It was a swamp on every fairway, even the rough on EVERY hole. On some holes it was literally like hitting across a field (13th) as you could not even tell if there had ever been a fairway. Only the greens made it worth trudging, losing shoes, losing balls in the middle of the comedy fairways and wanting to see the layout which I say again could be amazing in a dry summer. The course should not have been open and definitely should not have been 28 pounds. We decided that we would have it out with the Pro when we trudged back, but he was long gone at 5pm, probably realising the course was stealing money at 28 quid. The daft thing is I would go back in the height of summer as the layout is really interesting. But if the members there think thats golf, then they should move to Worksop and play College Pines and Kilton Forest. I have a real problem with courses that are not open and honest about condition, just say its bad out there but we are open to ensure we still have an income in touch times, so please bear with us. This course is worth maybe 10 to 15 pounds as it is, do not pay anything more until there has been a long dry period. Sorry OFGC as I imagine this course can be lovely.
Winter golf
Even though it was freezing temperatures the course had holes 4-18 open. Course was in really good condition!
Played here through last winter and value for money is fab to get some golf in.
Wet
Make sure you play when it has been dry a few days before, drainage is non existent! If it’s dry, one of the best courses around, challenging but a great play 👍😃⛳️
Challenge On
I’ve played this course about 6 times now and if I was living closer I would definitely become a member. The course has all the challenges you need playing golf and yet still makes it fun to play even with a handicap of 19. The layout of the course is great and well thought out to challenge all shot variations & the part 3’s needed me to play with a 5 wood. I can’t wait to play this course during the summer months as I am sure it becomes a different course again.
As for the amenities, they are wanting but staff and customers are very friendly and willing to listen to of your attempts to crack the course.
All in all this is a tidy course that needs to be played.
Very nice course
It is a very nice course. Somehow I have never heard of it or seen it up until now. But will definitely play it again.
Was a bit if a shame that we had so much rain recently meaning some of the fairway and alot of the rough was extremely wet making it a challenge at times. But we still had a good round and would definitely recommend
Unforgiving
The course on this particular day played very well greens were nice and tight playing fast and the fairways are well kept BUT the roughs were unforgiving the grass was silly long. If you were slightly off as we were on some holes due to the strong winds, then you could be stood 2 foot away from your ball and not see it. It’s too long and felt like you were playing the ball in a cabbage field.
A challenging course
The entire course was in great condition, some great views from the tee boxes, just a shame my clubs couldn’t match it! A real challenge for a mid-high handicapper.
Challenges Again
This is the third time of playing this course and what a challenge it is opening with a cheeky par4 over water. Then the challenge carries on throughout the whole course & if you don't have an electric trolley you'll need oxygen as the course climbs above the skyline to give some great veiws. Ground men are friendly and courtious of players. This is a definite recommendation and if I lived closer I would become a member 👍 ps: this course doesn't help my handicap 😂
Great course
Really nice course! Good for both amateur and more advanced golfers with some great holes. First time playing and really enjoyed it apart from the unfortunate strong wind.
Outstanding
Try and play this every week and as the weather improves so does the course. A pleasure to play and really challenging.
The course
Played early morning , found a bit of dew but as the morning went on got better fairway a little slow also some greens have been scarified . Played a quite a few times very friendly staff
Beautiful course
Grass was very lush, meaning you need to be on the fairways or expect severe punishment and difficulties finding your ball.
Greens were very well looked after
Practice green was very nice
Pro shop very small
On-site bar with snacks
- Could do with some better signage for the next holes in a few cases (hole 5 and 17).
- Remember to request the exit PIN code if playing late
Excellent value for money
Only second time at this course but played twice in a week, my mate and myself really impressed with the greens, the locals ,and the overall feel of the place. Some very challenging holes for relatively new golfers but the back 9 is more forgiving and two par 3s on the last 3 coming in so even if you had a shocker you can restore some self respect on them… would highly recommend to anyone that’s not been.
Nice course but needs some work
Main issue was the fact that there was no distinction between rough and fairway, if this was not the case then course would be nice to play.
