Excellent value for money
Only second time at this course but played twice in a week, my mate and myself really impressed with the greens, the locals ,and the overall feel of the place. Some very challenging holes for relatively new golfers but the back 9 is more forgiving and two par 3s on the last 3 coming in so even if you had a shocker you can restore some self respect on them… would highly recommend to anyone that’s not been.
Nice course but needs some work
Main issue was the fact that there was no distinction between rough and fairway, if this was not the case then course would be nice to play.
Cracking course
The layout and overall challenge of the course was brilliant. It was spoilt a bit by the amount of wet weather we have had which made it very muddy in places. The greens had been left long probably because of the amyotrophic water but the looked good and once cut would be fine.
Definitely worth another try in the summer.
Not good
The course was really too wet to play and should have been closed.
Locked in the car park at 630pm was the worst of it with no warning beforehand of metal electric gates closing times.
There was nobody around and no answer to the club numbers on the scorecard for help. It took half an hour to find someone that could help with the code to exit. Not a good experience!
Great Course & Value
Everything about the course is great, the only thing that let it down was a select few members still have the attitude of not letting a 1 ball play through.
Worst winter round ever
After the recent poor weather myself and playing partner didn't expect too much of the course conditions but having seen their course status for the previous day with all 18 greens being on we thought we'd give it a try.
Firstly it cost £14 which in today's market isn't a lot for a round of golf however if we'd have know beforehand what was to come I'd have been disappointed at traveling 40 minutes to pay even £5.
I completely understand the necessity to use winter greens and have no problem at all playing on them to protect the full greens however what we played on were the worst I have ever played on and ruined
the round, the whole course was wet through and splodgy and should really have been shut instead of charging people to play.
There were 11 winter greens which consisted of a flag in the fairway (not mown at all no idea of distance and any difference in fairway to green also some 100 yards short of every green, the worst part was that 6 of the greens (fairway flags) were the bigger winter cups, 3 were smaller normal cups and 2 were the funniest thing I've ever seen the top half of the hole was cut out with a spade at the bigger cup size with the bottom half of the hole being a smaller cup size it was an embarrassment. How can a course that gets so wet not prepare for winter weather golf and at least mow a separate area no effort made at all, they were also on some of the wettest parts of the course and also on ridiculous slopes at times with better options clearly available it's like they'd had some work experience guys as greenkeepers with no golf knowledge at all.
Sorry for the long post but feel people should know about how poor it was, will not be returning.
Thanks
Nice friendly welcome really helpful
Course is winter hard but that’s what to expect
This time of year
I m looking forward to around when the weather warms
Once again thank you all the staff
A challenging course
I have to say that Ormonde fields is a really interesting and challenging course. The layout is great and the variation in holes is enough to keep you interested and wanting to go back again. The greens are probably some of the best I’ve seen recently. It’s a very hilly course which is good, but we happened to go on seniors day (Tuesday and Thursday apparently) and the play was very slow. I’d totally recommend it but do your homework before booking as you can pick up a reasonably priced round here.
It really is a Hidden Gem
Whilst looking for a new venue I came across this one and was intrigued as I had never heard of it. A couple of the recent reviews referenced this as a "Hidden Gem" which was enough for me to book a round. It certainly did not disappoint with every hole interesting in its own way. The fairways are relatively generous but as so many holes are shaped with no boring up and downs that you need to be in the right area to avoid adding yardage to your approach. Bar the par 3's I can't recall standing on the tee and seeing the flag.
Chap in the pro shop was friendly as was the lady in the club house who whipped up a fabulous freshly cooked breakfast roll for us. The greens were a little slow but to be fair it is October and it did look like they had recently had some work done on them.
Will definitely be back
Ok round we were a 2 ball with a 1ball behind us we being held up with play in front not a promblem with the amount of leafs on the course it was some times difficult to find your ball then on the 9th hole we had teed off and the one ball just teed off with is ball landing near us he then just strolled up we let him carry on with no apology from him for hitting his ball near us bit rude I thought I pretty sure he was a member left a bad taste in the mouth
A great challenge
Challenging layout with a lot of doglegs and hidden water hazards
Brilliant course - hidden gem
Played this course for the first time and it’s an absolutely stunning course. Considering the heatwave conditions recently the course was in brilliant condition, thoroughly enjoyed the layout of the course and is very testing. A real hidden gem
An absolute hidden gem
This is a must play course in the Midlands; quiet and hidden away it was in particularly good condition given the recent drought weather, fairways were much greener than anywhere else I had seen. The layout is very interesting, with many risk-reward holes, and good play is rewarded but bad play is punished.throughout the course, all carefully placed to catch poor shots. There are many ditched and ponds The interest begins with a 90 degree dogleg short par 4 over a pond. The 4th hole is a stunning par 5, a downhill tee shot and then a narrow approach to the green which drops off on two sides and has a road on the other. The 10th in one of the most challenging par 5 holes I have ever come across, a boomerang-shaped beast of over 600 yards off the white tees. The 17th is the standout par 4, 446 yards with a blind drive over a hill to a fairway that sweeps around to the left with trouble on both sides. Having played the course the first day I was so impressed I went back and played it the very next day. It is definitely a course where you benefit fro mhaving played it before. And at £15 for a midweek afternoon round, you will not find a better value round anywhere - a great golf course.
Great course
Lovely course with a great layout. Plenty of signs to get you to the next tee as you do have to intertwine. To say we haven't had any rain the greens are excellent as are the tees. The bar could do with a refit but the staff in there are really friendly. Would definitely recommend.
Good course design
Played mid-week and was great value. A very well designed course with lots of doglegss and varied terrain. Quite a daunting 1st hole and all greens on good condition. Will certainly be returning
