Challenging Course
This is a relatively short but challenging course. For a pay and play course it is very well maintained. It is set around lakes and if your lucky you'll get to see the steam train on Nene Valley Railway. Well worth a round at a competitive price.
One of the best.
Been to numerous courses over 25years and this is still one of my favourites, beautifully maintained and a fair test of parts of your game.
A good course in two halves
Pretty well maintained, quite a few par 3s but challenging nevertheless. the front 9 is long and dominated by water and dog legs. Geese are also to be found on fairway including goslings in spring. I find the back 9 a lot of fun and quite intimate. 12 and 15 a lot of fun. Fremdly staff both here and at larger Thorpe Wood. Juniors can play for £7. Pub next door is ok. Location good for the A1. For relaxing golfers who don’t take the sport too seriously I think this place is really good.
Small things could make a difference
Nice picturesque course. Lots of par 3s for target practice. Unfortunatley lots of people without handicaps are let loose on course. Therefore . Dont rake bunkers. Noisy shouting. Dont understabd rules eg lost ball search time.
Etc.
A short but demanding course
For a public course it is very well maintained . There is plenty of water to avoid. A great course for both the new and experienced golfer. Well worth a visit.
Excellent selection
Just returned playing here lately and really enjoy the surroundings. Pleasant lady welcomes you on arrival and it's just a great set up
This course is strange
Four par 3’s on the back nine kills the pace of play. Only one par 5 on the course. A total of 6 par 3’s just combines for a strange set up. No signs up for next tees. Greens were in good condition and rolled nicely. Just not my cup of tea.
150 yard markers
This is a great course to play.....two recommendations....the 150 yard markers need to be better as they can hardly be seen on any par 4/5 making it difficult when approaching the green.....also to aid it would be beneficial to correctly have a set system in pace for pin placement....Thorpe wood does this well, however orton Wells not so well.
Poor design, poorly looked after
Not more than 5 miles away from it’s sister course Thorpewood and yet a massive difference in it’s upmeeo and care of the greens and fairways.
Total waste of money
what a gem
me and my wife played the course which cost us £36 for the two of us, It is a great little course as i thought as it is only a 67 par and some holes are short par 4's i would find it easy but that is far from it, its not about big long drivers its about putting you ball in the right place off the tee as most of the holes dog leg or have something in the way, we will be going back again as now we know the lay out, well worth a round for any handicap.
Quick to get around
Play over at Orton Meadows a few times a year as it’s a nice little course with various par 3 ‘s to make it a challenge for us who play mainly for the social part more than anything else . Like most courses at the minute it could do with some rain to get rid of the brown spots on the fairways, but the greens are ok , parking is easy and for the price of a round you really can’t complain. All in all we find it a great place to play.
Fantastic days golf
Only bad point was a 4ball that jumped on at the 9th, and had no etiquette, loud, playing other golfers balls, and pulling trolleys across greens, but other than that a good golf course
Great shortish but challenging course
This is a public course, but very well maintained. There are some challenging holes with plenty of water to keep clear of! Well worth a try.
Excellent Value for Money
Have played this course on many occasions and always enjoyed the experience. Yes it's quite a short course with a plethora of par 3's, but there are also some long holes on the front 9 around the lakes. Course in pretty good condition when taking into account the recent weather. Bit slow to get round but nice to see the course quite busy.
Orton Meadows, Peterborough
This is really a course of 2 halves, with the first 9 really challenging and incorporating lots of water, and the second 9, somewhat short, but ideal if, like us, you had played the previous day and were a little tired, plus needed to get onto the A1 before it got too busy. We arrived an hour early for our round and it was absolutely pouring down, so we sat and had a coffee in the Beefeater next door, Then 10 minutes before our tee-off time, it stopped and the weather was pretty good for our round. as a Public pay & play, the course was in really good condition, and the earlier bad weather had kept people away, so we got round in under 3 hours, and I also posted my joint lowest ever score of 83!
Spoiled by playerd not knowing proper rules snd etiquette
Not a private club therefore full of casual players who dress incorrectly . Dont keep up with pace of play. Drag their trolleys over greens etc.
Good weather and nice surroundings
Good course for me, someone returning to golf. Not too long but challenging and interesting.
Short but accuracy a must.!
Great little course with nice features and loads of wildlife. Unfortunately bring public a lot of hackers that dont really know the rules .may slow you down.
The course was looking great
We found the course to be well manicured
It was a beautiful Spring afternoon accentuated by the course presented in this way
The greens were at a good speed and rolled nicely too
There were six par threes all being different from each other
The bunkers were disappointing as no one seemed to know how to use a rake
Pace of play was slow but being a pay and play it's to be expected although there were signs warning against slow play
Overall it was a great round and would recommend it
The pro shop was disappointing tho with limited stock
Great course
Lovely course in great condition with some nice challenging holes. Set in beautiful surroundings. Great value and always available
