Lovely evening but…
Always enjoyed the layout at Oulton but the quality of the course condition was poor when we played. The greens were very slow, the fairways uncut and the bunkers dreadful. It feels like the course is suffering from a lack of care and investment and I hope they get it back soon.
Good clubhouse and pro shop but awful course
Tee boxes in poor condition, fairways no different to rough, no sand in bunkers, greens terrible not looked after one bit shocking for price of rounds
A joke
of many years playing golf all over the world this is the worst maintained course I have ever played, greens a complete joke, fairways are like the rough on most courses, over two days never saw one one green keeper ?
Should turn it into a nature park and let everyone enjoy it, as for a golf course, DONT BOTHER.
Staff in hotel try their best and hotel not bad.Service very slow but I guess during difficult times its the best we can hope for.
Unable to play Oulton Hall rang me back to say they are no longer using golf now need a credit please,
Disappointed
A real disappointment. Really nice course layout, but badly neglected. Even in the current circumstances, grass growing in bunkers that were rock hard, is not really acceptable on a course of this supposed quality.
Bad management?
Poor experience
Played 19-27 and 1-9. Booked on for a time. Course seemed overbooked. Waited 30 minutes after booked tee off time to finally get away. Then got caught behind too many slow 4 balls from a booked group of 20! Really? All stood at the 19th tee together with no social distancing. The design of this course is one of the best in Leeds but the conditions of it are in some state - especially 19-27. The tee off areas are worn. The greens sluggish. Not the standard you’d expect for the price you pay. Disappointing.
Absolutely awful!
In my 30 years of golfing this has to be the worst kept course I have ever played. Greens are not cut, fairway are full of mud and where there is grass it has not been cut, tee boxes are full of mud and matt play is not enforced. The rough is so thick is likely hasn’t been cut since summer. The course is so poor you can’t find half your balls hit in the fairway. Absolutely no maintenance put into this course whatsoever and I would not pay to play here again.
Great Course
Really good test of golf. Quite busy but fortunately no hackers when we were on. Remember when this was a municipal course and imagine it can be very sloww= when busy. Some tough holes, especially towards the back end. advice : stay right!
Greens need work
I have played Oulton Hall many times in the past, but I don't think the greens have ever been in a worse condition than they were for this round.
The recent weather has been hot and dry, but the greens were simply far too firm.
They barely took a pitchmark and the roll was ridiculous, turning good shots for all four of us into bad ones.
Some tee boxes are in terrible condition and need repairing urgently.
Other than that, the course was in great condition and played as tricky as ever
Needs some maintenance
The course itself is great, with some challenging holes and plenty of variety, and I managed a birdie which is always a bonus.
However, some of the tee boxes were in terrible condition making hitting a decent tee shot difficult. On the 3rd we actually teed off from the whites rather than yellows because the tee box was in such bad condition.
The previous day had really wet weather, but on the 12th the rough to the right of the fairway was practically unplayable with how boggy it was and how long the rough was.
Despite these minor issues, the course was in great condition as usual and provides a challenge for golfers.
Oulton
Booked for 10:30, on arrival told the system wasn’t live and we were now playing at 11:00. No contact before hand to inform us of the change.
The course was very poor even considering the time of year. Tees were terrible and rough, bunkers were more stones than sand. There was an awful lot of branches on the fairways that could of been cleared. We only saw one groundsman all day.
It’s a real pity as the layout of the course means that if looked after it would be really good.
One off 2019
Bearing in mind the time of year the course was in good condition bunkers great since i was in most of them pace was great 3 hour round. Greens had beens punched but were still nice to play on. Didnt use the bar
Beautiful course that puts your skills to test.
I often play this course because I cannot get enough of it.
I will only stop playing it when I start beating it. I am 10 shots out at the moment.
Great course
A scenic and well balanced course with varying degrees of difficulty that caters for all abilities.
Nice course, expensive clubhouse!
Course was in good condition despite all the rain lately. We played holes 1 to 9 then 19 to 27, holes 10 to 18 were closed for work by green staff. Greens were very good on 1 to 9, good paced and true but 19 to 27 had been hollow tined so were a bit slower and bumpier, but still ok. The course is a good challenge with some tricky to reach greens well protected by bunkers and water in places, as well as changes in elevation.
After our round we went into the bar as we usually do, to sample the food and the beer and this was the most disappointing part of the day. A pint of Peroni lager and a bitter shandy was £10.50! We looked at the food menu, sausage sandwich, (£3/ £3.50 in most clubs) £5 but only served until 11am. Egg mayo or ham sandwich £6/£7 so decided not to bother and instead asked for 2 bags of crisps which were £2 a bag. £14.50 for 2 pints and 2 bags of crisps!
There were quite a good few people out on the course but only about 6 people in the bar and they were drinking tea!
Will go back and play the course again but avoid the bar!
